zdad- again your posts shift to try us to forget what we’re debating. if everyones computer had to be bolted to the side of an aron kodesh to operate and only when the bais was full and only when everyone could see, the amount of aveiros done would be, i would propose, lower? so it folows that anything which can be more secreted away, without the knowledge of anyone else, will cause graver consequences. duh. add wifi on all his doodads and welcome to aveiraland. enter jobsland. theyre BAD!!

feif- i answered that above. anyway NK thinks theyre frummer, any speaking out against them would be why theyre not frummer. weiss’ thing isnt a frummer issue; its ” lets push the envelope to the very brink (or over?) what MO will accept cuz we think its right.” not so much shaychis. why doesnt everyone speak out against everyone else they dont hold of? and again ayin li’ail.

popa- i think R chaim soloveitchik said it best- theyre not kashos; theyre tirutzim.

Zdad- lts of them. and the ones who dont are because they dont feel theres too much sakana in a bunch of self-hating crazies. if MO feels some level of threat they should also feel compelled to respond. which i also think is the reason no chareidi gedolim (not newspapers-i mean the manhigei hador) took a stand against weiss; they dont even have a chashash that their kehillos will be swayed- no threat- hence no reaction.

interstingly enough, im not sure. if your willing to make a hanacha that a spiritual calamity is worse then a physical one, on the reasoning that spiritual desolation would mean the actual end of klal yisroel as the am hanivchar, and we’d be like everyone else, then maybe it is worse. and all of you who are going to yell about how callous i am about the holocaust, i assure you im not. ive read extensively and cry alot when reading holocaust books. i nthink the yellers here are thinking with their hearts and not with their heads. fire away.

sam2- i already said it wouldve happened anyways- twice. Hashem made him tyhe guy to introduce things that pulled dozens, if not hundreds, of people off the D. you werent the guy, jobs was. that means something.it probably means something not so good. so we shouldnt celebrate this man. thats all im saying, and i think its quite understandable.

lesschumras- its funny you should make that point. i personally know of several yeshivos that only accept money from sources they know are pure- either because they personally trust the donor cuz hes erlich or the like. the money they take get from other sources goes to toilet paper. i guess you think like a rosh yeshiva!

also it was R yeshua leib diskin who made sure to eat raisins all day. see city of fire/heaven?dont rtemember the title. also see seraph of brisk.

yungerman- whoever invented the internet just might be hard pressed achar me’ah vi’esrim to explain the spiritual damage to countless neshamos. im not sure why you think thats a taaneh- theres a reason why gedolim assur it. :-/. bad economies werent invented by presidents. moot point. kinda not so smart, no? and while you are right that people have bechira, there is a gemara that asks in certain situations how its physically possible not to do aveiros. he definitely was misayeiya in loads of aveiros. why is this so difficult to understand? obviously not everyone whos ever used an ipod has been damaged by it, but ask yourself if you havent come into contact with at least one issur because of one; if you have then ive made my point.

mike- certain points, i would propose, do not need a bibliography afterward to prove theyre true. there are over 1000 cares in NYC. do i need to prove it?now, growing up as a bochur in this age when ipods became super-popular, i personally witnesed tens of bochurim who became exposed to content that was, at best, objectionable. i stated before that if this is our yeidas hadoros it would have happened anyway, but im takind issue with the fact that if Hashem chose this man to supply the means then that should open our eyes as to how we should view him. i gave an example of a murderer bishogeig- he was “only” the shliach, but chazal say he was guilty and dserved the oinesh. all im saying is that we dont have to be so quick to thankn the man for giving us all this stuff; lets lok a bit harder at whats not skin deep.

theres no way that most of the main-stream yeshiva oilam will even consider making one of these things a staple in learning. and the man was still a rasha. thousands of neshamos were corrupted with ipods. why back such a person?

i dont understand this “theory of contribution”. it basically seems to state that anyone that made a tangible or lasting impact head and shoulders above the rest in any given field is to be nearly diefied. great. lets diefy bob marley. are you people nuts?? a person’s genius is Hashems gift to him, its not his attribute to be praised for. the test is what you do with it. jobs did nothing good for klal yisroel, and, if anyhting, there are way more neshamos affected by spiritually dangerous content then there were before apple became a name to be reckoned with. now obviously it would have happened without him too, because in some way this fits with Hashems plan, but we dont let a murderer off the hook just because in shomayim the victim was michuyav misa. and to raise the man??? we need to look at ourselves seriously and ask if Hashem agrees with us mourning this man. i, for one, think he doesnt.

mike- i find your condonement/endorsement/policy of appeasement appalling. i live in toronto, and i live next door -literally- to the biggest conserative congregation in Canada. they drive on shabbos, talk on cell phones outside on shabbos, dress like who knows what, etc. Their succah is kosher yay! it in no way bares a likeness to regular torah-keeping Jews. And i also take issue with minimizing the damage they do to real yiddishkeit. me LaShem elay, anyone?
