here’s one for the books. My wife and i were outside on the sidewalk talking. a lady comes running down the sidewalk (downhill and clearly in a rush), but my wife and i had no time to get out of the way. she rams full speed into my wife, who apologizes, and the lady answers “Well! If you wouldnt be standing in middle of the road…” and carries on. if i wouldnt have been so speechless i would have kicked her. hard. in fact, i probably will if i see her again.

speaking of nedarim- can anyone satisfactorally explain the gemara on pay zatin amud aleph in nedarim which touches on the subject of toch kidday dibbur. the gemara is muchach its not a chazaradike’ din, and the pashtus would be that in some form, the maaseh hasnt yet finished, but kiddushin etc. are different because its a chalois, not stam a maaseh. any thoughts?

You have a chiyuv ksubah to your wife. Whatever is nechlal in that is a mitzva, a chiyuv, and makes Hashem happy. Anything over that which one does for himself is indulgence. I asked my chosson teacher how to avoid it and he said “daven”. If you think youre being a tzaddik by following these rules, youre wrong; it’s chav li’acheirim. More then that, youre copping out on a chiyuv di’oraysoh and a very special thing. And youre destroying your wife.

Sam4- How abot not eating, lets say, beets. Cuz in europe they came to the store covered in flour and therefore people were machmir not to use them. Nowadays, thats not true, so theyd be fine. If coke didnt make kosher l’pesach one year, that wouldnt become a minhag right? this too. Sorry im ranting but this drives me nuts.

Point 1. How the heck would you eat horseradish. I hate romain lettuce.

Point 2. Even if this is only a chumra, its certainly more understandable than several minhagim that came from Europe that bi’shaytum were nogei’ah and now have no pracrical application and are still practiced out of ignorance. They are minhagei shtus. This chumra is a psak from a big rav.

If i remember correctly the mishna brura discusses women making brochos in front of other women while they are unclothed. I think he comes out that one woman seeing another unclothed wouldnt be a problem as long as shes sitting. not sure if this’ll get through.

uneeq- Torah lishma is the greatest darga. to decide otherwise based on some logical explanation is downright wrong. what your emotions tell you in regard to learning torah lishma is also wrong. Torah is meant to be learnt lishma, fartig. knowing halocho isnt called not learning lishma.

Even if he wasnt as bad as others in his time, it doesnt make him a tzaddik; there are bigger and smaller anti-semites. im not saying he was one at all, im just arguing the point. for the record, i really enjoy reading shakespeare.

if done correctly, the daf is wonderful. ive been in several shuls learning while the daf was going on and ruba diruba of the men are dozing or checking their email on their bbs. thats not called correctly. and men in koillel learn 10-12 hours a day and learning that much is tough, even if you have a geshmak. i bet you all my money in the world that if those baalibatim you know would learn ten hours a day for five months theyd also need a break. its not that they bi’etzem have more geshmak, its that an hour a day is a tease and only a morsel. its like finishing the meal after the first course; they want more. theyd be stuffed after the second, whereas a yungerman, a good one, isnt stuffed until hes had two portions of dessert. gedolim also took breaks. im gonna stop typing this cuz its getting me mad.

A computer doesnt become the gadol hador just because ou downloaded shas. The keyli is the deciding factor as to whether the torah therein should be honored. A person who lives not in line with torah hashkafa and principle is not to be honored. I’m not talking about anyone specifically, even if itch decides i am, i’m simply disagreeing with the argument made above.

K, you can all yell at me, but i’m pointing out that its kind of ironic that mr. more went back to revive a three month old thread by…..mr. corey.

That being said, I think its immature to daven for things that arent really importnant. and if they are that important to you and youre an adult, they shouldnt be. Of course you can, and of course Hashem wil hear it, but is that what you want to show to the Melech Malchei Hamlachim? That youre davening for a team and not for the varios things going on in klal yisroal that really matter?
