feif- i think thats the opinion of the majority of the normal frum, even yeshivish, world. i only know one of my wife’s friends who dresses to those standards, and she looks like she jumped out of the 1800s.

WASJ- hmm…you against halacha, hashkafa, and plain old logic. no-one should be ostracized for making mistakes, but arguing with the above, and the gedolei america sets you up to look pretty dumb on this issue.

    Health,

you said,”While I agree with this statement, I’d include things like addiction as a severe issue. Of course, the couple should try as a team to get the addicted party to stop, but if all else fails – divorce is a reasonable option. Addiction can be smoking cigs, alcohol abuse, internet addiction, etc.”

smoking cigarettes is not cause for divorce. you decry divorce as an obvious option for frum couples, then go on to say that smoking is severe enough of an issue to end a marriage. that is retarded.

I just want to clarify that im in no way attempting to belittle the work of these great men, i just really enjoy when these lines are coined.

Me neither, I thought it was a very inspiring speech. Anybody who didn’t hear it should endeavor to get a CD. We are referring to R’ Ephraim Eliyahu Shapiro’s speech from the Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation Tisha B’Av video. – YW Moderator-42

DY and choppy- this double standard amazes me every time. like the people on here who love to quote the stories of the chazon ish’s gadlus in medicine but get all squirmy when you inform them that he held sheirut liumi is yihureg v’al yaavor.

i once heard a shiur listing all the mekoros that explain the shemira that tzitzis give a person. i remember the maggid shiur almost getting teary when he tried to convey how hard it should be to take them off, even for a good reason. imagine taking off bady armour in a battlefield to relieve yourself. yes, its a good reason and neccessary, but still understood why its a bidieved. so too should be taking off tzitzis.

zdad- i know how you love to make the dumbest tzushtells in the world, but just give up already. a person attending an event for enjoyment should reconsider attending if he will unquestionably be oiver issurim, whereas a man going to work is michuyav to do so in order to support his family. if he encounters bad things while tryig, he should attempt to be omed b’nisayon.

difference is, most serious yeshivaleit us their down time to rest up so that next seder can knack, and dont consider it as “time off”. i know from my experience that rabbeim will give shmuzim about how to correctly use bein hasdarim etc. its not free time, its a continuation of how to serve Hashem. ill understand if the daas baalibatim here cant understand this, but its true by the serious bnei torah

GAW- but it does illustrate that disagreeing with one’s hashkafa, even with harsh-ish words, isnt sinas chinam. unless someone would have the gall to accuse R aharon ztl of sinas chinam. which would be pretty dumb.

far east- and lets say my attending a function could be seen as an endorsement of those shittos, which i in fact hold to be kineged ratzon Hashem. now if im lil od me, thats not a real big deal. but if im a rebbe of thousands of chassidim, it could be suggested that my endorsement of said movement will result in a deep misunderstanding in hashkafa in my followers. its not illogical to take an action so as to avoid that misundrstanding, even if i dont hate the person i disagree with. as a public figure it makes sense to assume that my every action will be scrutinized and repeated by my following.

far east- totally agree. its like a wife telling her husband she bought out all the cigaretes in the state and dumped them in the river so her teen wont smoke. most addicted husbands will get in the car and go on a road trip.

i want to amend my advice- better then starting with a therapist, go to an acclaimed chosson or kallah teacher who deals with these matters. theyre way more involved then a rov can be, and they sometimes can be the therapist, too.

sinas chinam has become a catchphrase in this generation for not respecting someones opinion. this is a total shtuss and i dont see any reason from a torah perspective to accept opinions of nutjobs. tell a lubob the rebbes dead and he’ll call it sinas chinam. thats retarded. sinas chinam became the cry of all those who desire to be accepted by the larger community no matter what they hold. tell a na-nach hes made a carnival out of judasim (exact words heard from my RY) and he’ll tell you thats sinas chinam. disagreeing with a hashkafa, holding that an approach to yiddishkeit isnt just different,(as in the case of chasidim and litvacks nowadays), but entirely kineged the ratzon Haboreih isnt chinam. im not saying i agree, anyways who am i, but you should all rethink the teich of chinam, and the teich of a machlokes lishaim shomayim.

I heard from my rabbeim that klal yisroel chooses the gedolim/manhigim. obviously, this doesn refer to people that dont take halacha and yiras shomayim seriously. so i guess we’l see who becomes the new address for klal yisroels shailos and thats how we’ll know.

Neither a man or woman viewing these things means automatic divorce, and, although (sorry feminists in here. actually, no im not) its definitely worse from a halachic perspective for a man to be doing that, i think it signifies a much bigger and deeper problem in a lady. vidoik.
