mdd, you said “Charliehall. I agree — it is overboard. But it is very Chareidi here — they do not know how to spell “yashrus””

and so, youre being motzei shem ra on an entire tzibbur. thats pretty bad. also, im pretty sure even a 5 year od could spell it. so its also dumb. dumb and bad, like the rest of you chilonim.

yit and jmh- i think its worth stating that im in agreement that there are people who view this mitzvah as a license to go crazy and get totally wasted and dont have any regard for the actual miyzvah. im simply explaining that im of the opinion that there is a large tzibbur who does get drunk with the right kavanos and are written off as being one and the same. thaqts simply not true. and in this nekuda there is a correlation- the oilam hatorah that is makpid on other mitzvos is makpid on this one to, and for the right reasons.

yit- shtussim. experiment- go see which side sits looking for hadassim for hours and is makpid on hadas shotah as they should be and which side buys prepackaged and figures it hopefully ok. ill be dancing plastered with my kosher hadassim. and yes, any ben torah who is as makpid as possible to follow every sif in S”A is holier then someone who rolls with the times.

fia- but they refuse to, and thats the greatest tell. if you pasken a more meikildik’ shitta for whatever halachah, thats fine. if you stand up and say, this is better oh, and punkt is in accordance with the popular political climate and american attitude, then your motivation isnt torah true, so why should i respect that?

oom- ok, we’ll agree to disagree. i think its a serious enough con that would cause me to write off a shidduch. like akin to hearing her father was in jail. yes, he couldve been innocent, a victim of circumstance, but i’d probably say no flat out.

i mentioned in my first post that knowing before is different.

tcg- why do you stand up proudly proclaiming not being yotzei lichol hadeyos and make it into a shittah. if you couldnt eat a kizyais of matza or had to use shiur not held of by roiv poskim, would you klap on the bimah and be proud? and the answer is, when it comes to this mitzvah, yes, because it shtims with all the politiclally correct dribble being bandied about here.

ok, kler limaaseh in the chiyuv. is it a chiyuv to put oneself into a matziv of ad dilo yada, and the heychi timtza the rabanan were koveiah is shtiyas yayin, or is the etzem chiyuv the etzem shtiyah and the shiur ptur is ad dilo yada. i know the lashon is moreh like the second tzad, but its not muchach. i will admit im a little disappointed in myself for never thinking of this before.

if you learn like the brisker rav, maybe try to drink the most the fastest, and get drunk the quickest. i guess the shailah is if the mitzva is the drinking till ad dilo yada, or being in a matziv of ad dilo yada. if the shtiyah isnt only a heichee timtza then the above might be true, crazy as it sounds.
