“Um – Yummy – as far as you being the one who killed Osama, prove it! Cuz i’m claiming the same thing.”
But can either of you show us the (long form) death ceritificate? Didn’t think so.
TikkunHatzotMember“Morgan Stanley – Ha Ha! – But I’m glad to see what’s talked about in your circles.”
Is that JP Morgan’s sister?
TikkunHatzotMemberI’ve heard of well-known NY colleges selling degrees for like $30,000 under the table….oh, I guess that you want it to be “legal” too? Hmm, can’t help ya there.
TikkunHatzotMember….isn’t Morgan Fairchild that black guy in the movie “Driving Miss Daisy”?
TikkunHatzotMember@clockwork_kiwi, can you explain a little more about “Indeed, Chazal and later Aristotle argue that virtues are unified, that its difficult to have one without the others.”? I’m not always the best at reading comprehension & I’m not familiar with this.
TikkunHatzotMember#4
TikkunHatzotMember“spunk is my middle name. what can i say?”
Mmmm, StuffedSpunkCabbage?…just like momma used to make it.
TikkunHatzotMember@A mamin, I’m not a psychologist, but there are different degrees of bi-polar or even any mental health matter. I don’t think it matters though since G-d created every person differently, so 1 thing might bother 1 of us, but it doesn’t mean it will bother someone else.
I’ve lived in 2 different households with bi-polar persons. The first 1 didn’t end well & I couldn’t be in the same house.
The other person I really enjoyed having around…but then the other person told ME that they couldn’t stand being around since I had too many issues.
…and what is a “normal life”? I still have yet to meet anyone that is “normal”.
TikkunHatzotMemberYoyo, I’m glad you back on.
I guess you’re staying true to your name “yo-yo” & you came back….ok, lame joke.
April 29, 2011 7:17 pm at 7:17 pm in reply to: Doing Something L'Ilyui Nishmas A [Purposeful] Suicide #764756TikkunHatzotMemberClairvoyant, can you try to “recollect” the source? I would be interested in it if you found it.
April 29, 2011 7:12 pm at 7:12 pm in reply to: Yom Hashoah…why do charaidim/right wing orthodox not "celebrate"? #762660TikkunHatzotMemberItcheSrulik, you misread my posts. I didn’t try arguing one way or the other.
Read my posts again, both of them say that they are what I found online; the first one I was asking for someone to verify & the second one I was pointing out what I read on Chabad’s site. I never said that Chabad does it, I just said that Chabad’s site gave that reason and I’m aware that they don’t “do” everything that they post on their site, since some of it is just for educational purposes of what others do & why. (I would post a link to where it says it on their site, but I thought that link-posting isn’t allowed).
April 29, 2011 6:48 pm at 6:48 pm in reply to: Anyone here into details of tomorrow's Royal Wedding? #762710TikkunHatzotMemberIsn’t kind of awkward for Americans to be fascinated by the British Royalty?
I mean after that whole Revolutionary War & trying to break free from British rule & everything…sorry, just trying to figure out the logic in why it’s such a big deal to care.
April 29, 2011 3:04 am at 3:04 am in reply to: Yom Hashoah…why do charaidim/right wing orthodox not "celebrate"? #762636TikkunHatzotMemberItcheSrulik, are you asking what events that weren’t related to the seige of Jerusalem do we mourn on 10 tevet? On the Chabad site I read that some remember the Holocaust on that 10 Tevet…if that’s what you’re asking.
oomis1105, that’s actually something that most secular Jews (that I know) tend to miss. They think the Holocaust was the ONLY event where Jews were killed in Europe. But it wasn’t, it was the event with the most systematic & “effecient” killing. That’s what made it so bad.
And I just recently got into an argument with an Israeli(?) because he basically said that Jews had never been persecuted in Europe before the Holocaust! I mentioned to him that he forgot the Crusades, Inquisition, & various pogroms.
April 28, 2011 8:24 pm at 8:24 pm in reply to: Yom Hashoah…why do charaidim/right wing orthodox not "celebrate"? #762620TikkunHatzotMemberImaofthree, I googled it & found these statements:
“Haraidim remember the victims of the Holocaust on traditional days of mourning which were already in place before the Holocaust, such as Tisha B’Av in the summer, and the Tenth of Tevet, in the winter”
“Thus, a situation has come into existence where religious forms of commemoration take place primarily on the Tenth of Tevet and on Tisha b’Av, while secular forms of commemoration take place primarily on Yom HaShoah, and either part of the population ignores the other’s day of commemoration”
…maybe someone can verify this???
TikkunHatzotMemberDerech HaMelech, are you talking about the articles of the Neturei Karta. Because I’ve only counted 5 of them in pictures & videos for the past few years…those guys travel so much that it’s hard to understand when they get time to study Torah….
Cherrybim, adding to what you said, there are also many non-jewish Christians in America that actually claim to be Jews. I’ve actually talked to a few of them; they believe that they are Jewish, even though they have NO Jewish lineage.
Furthermore, 1 of my (orthodox) friends was in a carribean island & he told them that he was Jewish. He said that they were ready to kill him, because they (the islanders of African descent) were the true Jews.
TikkunHatzotMemberI would ask a rabbi.
TikkunHatzotMemberYup. And I’m not telling it.
TikkunHatzotMemberAre some of his stories told with/through music, is that why you’re asking?
TikkunHatzotMemberLightuptheworld, I wouldn’t say that it has NOTHING to do with the looks.
But I would say that the attraction can change very rapidly if you decide you like the person after getting to know them. Even though their looks remained the same.
TikkunHatzotMemberWolfish, I actually just went looking for the source(s)…but after scratching my head trying to grasp the logic behind either side of the argument (since I still don’t understand why it took 2 years to get the real BC out), I have decided to forfeit my previous stance & am declaring that Barrack Hussein Obama be allowed to keep his title as President.
Anyhow, I just saw Trump on TV. He is a real class act! He said:
TikkunHatzotMemberCanine – You’re right about the citizenship requirements, but the presidency requirments are slightly different; a person born outside of the US & it’s territories has to have US citizens for both parents.
This is why there wasn’t much concern for McCain being born in Panama (which was US territory at the time).
TikkunHatzotMemberWolf – Don’t worry, there was no issue with you correcting the statement that I said. It was actually my fault, since my last sentence had an issue with the wording that didn’t make sense.
TikkunHatzotMember“IMHO, anyone who truly wants to find the emes, will.”
….and if you’re “honest opinion” is wrong?
TikkunHatzotMemberMewho – That’s what made me go from believing that he was born in the US to not believing he was born in the US. Why hold back evidence for 1 of the 3 things that prove you have the right to become president?
April 27, 2011 7:02 pm at 7:02 pm in reply to: Yeah, It's A Rant… Talking In Shul and Attitudes… #761763TikkunHatzotMemberSpeaking of talking while davening, has anyone been to a Sephardic or Morrocan shul? They take this issue very seriously…I tell you this both as an interesting fact & as a warning.
TikkunHatzotMemberpopa_bar…the point wasn’t that it was getting sidetracked into other subjects. What Binah was saying is that it was a thread where we were “helping” others & then it sidetracked into “hurting” others.
And, telling a boy to gain or lose weight is not the same as telling a girl that. Girls are much more sensitive in this type of area; telling a girl that she is ugly is like telling a guy that he will never be succesful in his studies and/or career.
However, if you tell a guy that he is ugly & a girl that she won’t be succesful in her studies and/or career, then it’s just not the same….Popa_bar, I know that you understand that, but the teen boys (I assume they are, anyway) that write some of the comments on here are being way too harsh & don’t understand the issues of women’s feelings. Some of these guys don’t think that it’s a big deal to throw out these hurtful opinions.
MW13, some of the “boys” were not being defensive, they were being offensive.
To be defensive is to say, “I am entitled to my opinion & there is no reason that I have to change my opinion in what I prefer.” Some of the guys did that, but others began straight out attacking.
TikkunHatzotMemberI agree with Apushatayid. It’s a lot easier to remove things from a child’s view, than to try & remove things from a childrens mind.
TikkunHatzotMemberHaifagirl, I just want to make sure that you weren’t being too serious with that comment, since there are many “only child”s that get married all the time.
April 27, 2011 3:28 am at 3:28 am in reply to: If you could live anywhere, where would you live? #890998TikkunHatzotMemberI know that there is 1 place in America that I’ve lived in & never want to return…my car.
TikkunHatzotMemberHi, Shuni, can you explain what it means when you said “…all the kedusha of putting on tefillin comes from the avoda one does from chatzot onwards.”
TikkunHatzotMemberSorry, the sentence was messed up.
Yes, it’s a time mourning over the destruction of the Beit HaMikdash.
TikkunHatzotMemberActually, I didn’t, BUT they are both are correct.
They arrive at midnight to “mourn” the destruction of the temple. But they then study until “morn”ing.
TikkunHatzotMemberGood, because I don’t know. I actually chose this username because it seems to be a rarely used term.
BTW, there is a yeshiva in Israel called Kollel Chatzot (if you google it, you should be able to find it). Apparently they 60 men that arrive there are midnight to mourn.
TikkunHatzotMemberNot 1 2 b next
TikkunHatzotMemberHow can you not know anything about it, after you already posted info about it last week?
TikkunHatzotMemberSlightly off topic (but not much), did you know that it’s a federal crime to send an e-mail with a misleading subject title?
There is a lawyer in CA (known as “Dan Hates Spam”) that has made over a $1,000,000.00 by suing businesses that advertise with misleading titles in their e-mails.
Too bad, we can’t sue over misleading post titles…
TikkunHatzotMemberWhere is their any Chillul H-shem in devoting your life to Torah?
The observation fails to mention the fact of what it’s like in the majority of other “poor” neighborhoods.
I’ve worked in “poor”, predominantly African-American neighborhoods & most of the houses have nicer (or at least more expensive) cars than those in the richer neighborhoods. And the people also tend to wear more expensive, name-brand clothing. And they also go to college for free & they have tons of children.
However, they are also crime-ridden neighborhoods. And the men stay home playing video games, selling drugs & “having relations”. I know this because I used to fix properties in low-income housing in different cities across south Florida…..this is much different than the neighborhood in the article, where men that are busy doing the will of their Creator. I mean, isn’t that worth allowing them to have a nice stroller in their home?
TikkunHatzotMemberI made one out of an old scrap piece of paper & a marker.
However, everytime I scroll up or down, I have to reposition it. Use tape for this, as I accidentally used glue the first time & it left a stain on my screen.
TikkunHatzotMemberfedex11204 – I agree with the last part; you should be able to expect the same in your spouse in areas that you work hard in.
However, with the first part, what IF the weight did come from a lack of discipline & irresponsibility? How would that be any worse than guys having poor middos due to a lack of discipline & being irresponsible?
ILoveTheHolyLand – I think that the point is proven that not everyone has the same priorities. It’s just that simple. However, my rabbi says that “Every pot has it’s lid”. I believe him, therefore I don’t get stressed out.
You have no idea how much I ‘used’ to wish that I came from a Torah-observant upbringing & a family with million$ of dollar$ (to me, that’s what it seems that most of the women that I’ve met are after).
But I found that it’s all a blessing, since I now have a greater appreciation for baal teshuvas…most people have no idea how many struggles that they go through; they get hardship from both the non-religious & the religious crowds, plus the many internal struggles. But now that I’ve been through it, I am one that can help them, since I’m familiar with how it feels.
And since I wasn’t raised with much money…well, it’s a blessing that most people wish they could understand.
Either way, I’m confident that H-shem has created my wife as someone that will find all of this as qualities in me & not count them as defieciencies.
TikkunHatzotMemberI found that the best way to avoid speeding tickets is to tape an egg to the bottom of my ‘gas’ pedal.
I also found the best way to get somewhere quick is to tape an egg to the bottom of my ‘brake’ pedal.
…I hope this helps.
TikkunHatzotMemberHisRoyal… what you just quoted from Sefer HaChinuch perek 239, is that for only someone that wants to come closer to G-d?
I’m aware of 2 schools of thought on this; 1 that says you should do it to only those striving to become more spiritual & the other school that says you should do it to ALL Jews.
TikkunHatzotMemberIn the high crime neighborhoods that I used to work in, I would always spot people dealing drugs, shoplifiting & stealing, fighting, etc. So, I would call the cops.
Occasionally I would ask other why they don’t report these thing & why they turned away instead. It seems the attitude was always “Well, it’s none of my business”….but when something bad happened to these same people, they would blame all the whole community for not stepping in. It was so hypocritical.
I learned through observation, that having an attitude of “I’m just going to mind my own business” can ‘allow’ a community to become very corrupt.
TikkunHatzotMemberWell, since we aren’t going to quote any real statistics here…this thread is pretty pointless.
TikkunHatzotMemberbinahyeseira – As a guy, I agree & can also say that once I get to know a girl, her looks actually change; a pretty girl with a “ticked off” attitude suddenly looks like a HORRIFIC MONSTER…. but another girl that might be a plus size that I can “click with” all of a sudden looks amazingly beautiful.
Either way, my rabbi (who does marriage counseling) says that many men follow the burning sensation (you know, the whole “butterfly” thing) in their chest when they try to decide on a woman. My rabbi says that this is the yetzer hora blinding a man to the fact that this woman’s personality is at odds with his own & when they fire is gone, that’s when the guy suddenly realizes that he might not have married the best woman for him.
My rabbi also gave me the advice that when a man looks for a wife, he should find a girl with a personality that makes him feel like she is a close sister. But that when he looks at her, he doesn’t feel that she looks like his sister….it’s all relative (excuse the pun), but the idea is that the guy finds a wife that he gets along with, but also is attractive to him (not what is attractive to society).
TikkunHatzotMemberOH! Those type of sentences!….I thought “Man, who couldn’t come up with a D’var Torah or 2 against their actions while serving 2 life sentences?”
TikkunHatzotMemberWhy not just spell the entire name backwards.
TikkunHatzotMemberZeesKite…lol, I think that many people should put their innner child back in.
TikkunHatzotMemberCofeefan & Pumper – Don’t worry so much. The fact that you’re eyes were opened to this atrocity is probably not due to the fact that G-d wants you to be miserable for the state of the world, but because He is showing you that you both have a role in changing this situation. I’m sure that if the both of you look around, you’ll find that you are in places that you can affect the situation for the better.
But remember, there are areas in ALL of our lives where we ALL fall into the same kind of trap. It just so happens that this is NOT one of them.
TikkunHatzotMemberIn defense of YoYo, I suffer from certain psychological symptoms & there is nothing that she said, thought or did on here that I haven’t said, thought or did in a therapy session.
Not everyone is “normal”. G-d created some of us different & even some of us he caused to be different through circumstances beyond our control.
However, YoYo, you need to find some support that is local, since there seems to be much harshness online. Or better yet, find someone local that needs your help & then help them; doing that is a great way to make you forget about your own issues.
TikkunHatzotMemberTrak443 & Sacrilige…Thank you for restoring some much needed sanity to this thread. I think it’s a good point (for & from BOTH sides) to keep their eyes on looking to a solid future, than just looking at the fluctuating present.
Mom12…Looking back, do you see that when you were dating & being a size 12-14 that is was more of a blessing? Did any of the guys that you got feedback from, say anything about what they SHOULD/WISH they would have looked for in a female?
