@rainus: the Gra didn’t put the Baal HaTanya and the Breslovers in cherem, he put all chassidim in cherem. Reb Nachman was five years old when the Gra issued his cherem in 1777. That’s just a misconception people have because they think it makes more sense that the Gra put those two groups in cherem, and not the “regular” chassidim.
