there are 2 reasons for saying korbonos. one is that chazal say if you learn korbonos its like doing them. the other reason is that with korbonos you can observe torah learning. so first we say the korbonos parsha in torah and then the mishna.
theprof1Participanthamodia has many more readers. very effective.
theprof1ParticipantSAD, ITS HAPPENED TO ME MANY TIMES. IF THEY TAKE PERSONAL, THEY DELETE IT.
I’m sorry you feel that way. It isn’t about taking it personally, it is about following rules, being respectful, being appropriate and being on an online forum.
theprof1Participanti like grape jelly on bread. i like grape anything. wine, raisins, juice, jello, jelly. also, blacks love grape flavor. they drink gallons of grape juice. and a huge supplier of grape juice to black areas is kedem, but they use the name medek and without a hechsher symbol.
August 9, 2016 10:59 am at 10:59 am in reply to: Should religious girls learn halachot and mussar on a frequent basis? #1164474theprof1ParticipantSara Schnerirer, with the backing and support of the Polish Rebbes of her time, founded Bais Yakov, whose mission was to teach girls the full spectrum of Torah. Chumas, Rashi, meforshim such as Ramban, Nach with meforshim, halacha and mussar. Her legacy continues as of now and has resulted in Torah true families by the hundreds of thousands all over the world.
theprof1ParticipantPoilisher Rebbes before WW2 had a saying. Chazal say, Its better to walk in bck of a lion rather than in back of a woman. The rebbes interpreted it as such: Its better to do teshuva during the month of Av whose symbol is Ari, lion; and not to wait until Elul whose symbol is Besula, woman.
theprof1Participantif its made in california then its kosher. other places, it needs a clear hechsher. anyway, big deal. but soft raw tomatoes. it’ll taste the same.
theprof1Participantsame thing you can do the rest of the year but nothing dangerous. like no rides. go to a museum.
theprof1ParticipantWhat did chasidim wear before the Bal Shem Tov and chasidic rebbes? Chasidim gave up their own “old lvush” to embrace the “new” chasidish clothing. Polish chasim gave up wearing the “kashketlech” of polish jews after WW2. I am chasidish but couldn’t figure out what’s to go and what’s to stay. Long payos arn’t really only chasidish. Yemenites all had long payos. Chabad chasidim mostly don’t have long payos at all and dress modern during the week. It seems its been pick and choose on what will be worn.
theprof1Participantsardines and herring are not the same fish.
theprof1ParticipantKiddush bemokom seuda must be mezonos or another cup of wine.
theprof1ParticipantIf you’re trying to reach a famous noted rabbi, then his shul will be listed and you can send your letter there. If you want to rech a rosh yeshiva, then send it to the yeshiva.
theprof1Participanthistorically, the actual debate between rashi and rabbeinu tam was not which are the only kosher. cause then the question would be, what did people where 100 years before? the question mainly was which is the main pair type. almost everybody wore both. rashi said his was the main, to be put on first. after that most european decided one pair, rashi, was enough. sefardim mostly wore both, some st one time together.
the ari zl came ad said both should be worn, rashi first. so chasidim all wear both. chabad wears both after bar mitzva and some other chasidim do that too. all chasidim wear both after getting married.
theprof1ParticipantWHAT OUR ACTIONS ARE. THEY’LL GET THE IDEALS FROM OUR ACTIONS.
theprof1ParticipantA mumar l’teiovin actually does an aveiroh. He likes veal parmigian. He eats it, not to go against Hashem, but because he likes it. But he is still doing an aveiroh. The Orthoprax doesn’t necessarily do aveiros. He just doesn’t really care much about the practice of Torah life.
theprof1Participantground coffe has long ago gone away from 69 cent a lb. instant coffee is so much cheaper. a shul that serves brewed coffee is uppity, showing it can afford expensive coffee. i do know one very orthodox shul that has a keuring, it was donated. one member has a k-cup business and dnates all the k-cups. so that coffee is for free.
theprof1Participantwell excuse me if your uppity shul has brewed coffee. shuls that offer free coffee buy nestles tasters choice house blend because it generally the cheapest available.
in general, the concept of which is best can’t be considered since taste is not a debatable issue. anybody here can attest to their own taste. the issue was coffee in shul, which i had stated was tasters choice house blend.
theprof1ParticipantAT HOME NOW I HAVE GEVALIA. BEST COFFEE. I ALSO USE FOLGERS DECAF, REALLY GOOD. STARBUX IS WAY WAY OVERATED. DUNKIN IS MUCH BETTER. IN SHUL, ALL SHULS US THE SAME COFFEE, ITS GOOD. TASTERS CHOICE HOME BLEND.
June 30, 2016 1:36 pm at 1:36 pm in reply to: WHY ARE DENIM JEANS CONSIDERED BY MANY AS CHUKAS HAGOY #1157651theprof1ParticipantSomehoe denim has gotten that reputation. I stopped wearing denim when i was 9. My children, neither boys nor girls, ever wore denim.
theprof1ParticipantWisdom is knowing that tomatoes are fruits. Common sense in not putting them into fruit salads.
theprof1ParticipantYou can’t make halachic decisions concerning social tenets from the Torah or Gemora. Slavery is sanctioned by the Torah yet nobody in their right mind would say that today slavery is OK. There was no concelt of democracy in those days anywhere in the world. And there is no way of knowing that when moshiach comes, what type of government we will have. Of course it will be in strict adherence to halacha and Torah philosophy. But until moshiach does come, democracy is the way to go.
theprof1Participantpeople who start such a discussion are the real shtus. holy minhag yisroel.
theprof1Participant104 perutos means 104 pennies. a peruta is the lowest coin denomination. you can put 104 pennies into a r. mair baal haness pushka and it has the same value as a segula as does $104 to some gimich minded organization.
June 5, 2016 5:39 pm at 5:39 pm in reply to: Why does the United States of America like to elect blue-eyed presidents? #1154550theprof1ParticipantBlue eyes show up nicely in news photos and on TV. They also wear blue ties.
theprof1ParticipantThank you so much for this posting. I was in 3rd year beis medrash at the time, I remember also how all the roshei yeshiva were s completely distraught and then the simcha when we heard the tremendous nissim that had taken place.
theprof1Participantvirtual l’chaim. i did give tikun today. in 2000, i was at the remoh’s kever in cracow on lag b’omer and then later at night, about 1 am, we were by rav mendele in riminov. drank l’chaim and danced a rikud.
theprof1ParticipantWhat some people do and think they did it correctly isn’t an issue. You asked when shacharis starts. it starts when shulchan orech says it starts. Shacharis strts at brochos, or ctully at “mah tovu”. The oart of korbonos and kitores is part of shacharis even if some people skip it. it is still part of shacharis.
shacharis ends with oleinu for nusach sfard and at the yom for the day for aschkenaz. Deciding that you have no time doesn’t mean that you davened completely. These are the times of a complete schacharis. Period. Halacha.
theprof1ParticipantBest way to fix CDs. Go to Mostly Music and buy a new one.
theprof1ParticipantAnybody who refrains from vaccinating their family for any diseases which have vaccines available, is oiver ushmartem meod es nafshoseichem.
theprof1ParticipantComplete a learning of all shas with only gemora and rashi before you get into lomdos.
theprof1ParticipantSince my bar mitzva I’ve worn a woolen beged on Shabbos and YomTov and cotton during weekdays. But that’s a personal chumra, although many men and boys do have that same chumra. It is not a chasidic custom as many chasidim will wear cotton and polyester on Shabbos too. A lot depends on peer customs and peer pressure. Especially in yeshivos.
theprof1ParticipantI’m not sure what this question was meant to be. Of course buildings have columns. They wouldn’t stand if not. Amudim are special prayers said daily that symbolize the daily prayers sais in the bais hamidosh by Yisroelim. There were 3 groups who said daily prayers at the sacrifice of the daily tomid. Cohanim, Leviim and Yisroelim.
theprof1ParticipantIts practically impossible to personally contact the major chasidic rebbes by phone. that is like bobov and satmar. the minor rebbes, just get their phone number and call. although many minor rebbes won’t talk on the phone either. of course you can always talk to Hashem. He’s a fairly major listener.
theprof1ParticipantNot to mix is a chumra that goes beyond Pesach chumros. Bnei Yisroel were supposed to have achdus to merit Yetzias Mitzrayim. The Gerrer chasidim minhag is to have seudas chaverim during chol hamoed. To invite your friends over for a meal. This is what will bring geulah and Moshiach.
theprof1ParticipantMedinas israel is a manifestation of eschalta de’geula that comes from Yad Hashem. The medina has a government which is anti-Torah. Too many of the Jews living in Israel are against Torah living. But the State of Israel is holy; the government toig nisht.
theprof1Participantthe chachomim who made the kitniiyos gezeira did not deem cocoa or coffee beans as kitnoyos. cottonseeds arent either. the main idea was making flour. potatoes were almost assured but then european jews would have nothing to eat so it wasnt assured. sefersim didnt accept the gezeira so they do eat. rav abadi actually does make a borei pri ha’etz on chocolate but not on coffee.
April 10, 2016 12:07 pm at 12:07 pm in reply to: Do I greet with a Gut Shabbos or a Gut Voch? #1145849theprof1ParticipantSince it’s customary not to say Gut Shabbos after Mincha, of course you would say Gut Voch to the man. Besides you’re wishing him in accordance with his status, not your own.
theprof1Participantal titosh toras imecho, that is the mekor.
theprof1Participantbest mekor for a mesora is your father. thats judaism guys.
theprof1Participantall food stores sell their chometz over pesach. its been a general hungarian custom not to buy bread from even a yid who sold his chometz. selling chometz is a complete halacho. you want chumras? how about a chumra of being especially friendly and helpful to other people. and instead of being so careful of what goes into your mouth; be extra careful of what comes out of your mouth, speech, davening, learning.
theprof1ParticipantIf he isnt the rebbe of your chasidic sect. You say sholom aleichem, plain, thats it. Then you should introduce yourself. If you want, you can add your mothers name too. If you give him a kvitel, ten just state your name and surname and where you are from. Give him a while to read, then he will raise his face. At that point you can address any inquiries or requests. This is general protocol.
I fixed the ALL CAPS. Please don’t do that again.
theprof1Participantborei pre adoma
theprof1ParticipantThe best way is learning gemora with artscroll. i learned aramaic the easy way. started learning gemora when i was 7 yeras old and learned every day of my life.
theprof1ParticipantIts called mesora. i bh had a father. and he had mesora. and i belong to a chasidic sect for generations. and we all know our customs and traditions.
theprof1ParticipantGemora states that Rabbi Yochanon Kohen Godol became a tzedoki at 120 years old. What happened was this. They brought him strawberries and he ate. The the other rabbis said wait you cant eat strawberries. Rav Yochanon said, no problem and ate more. And the rabbis said, omg he is a tzedoki. He doesn’t listen to te rabbis.
theprof1ParticipantCopy Machine hit the nail perfectly. Lets try to just be regular yiddishkeit and torah life jews. people who hardly know all hilchos shabbos or all hilchos of ossur food, and they need chumras? do what plain shulchan orech asks of you and be happy.
theprof1ParticipantHakoras HaTov is a very important concept. The Torah prohibited Jews from marrying Moab and Amon because they didn’t show haorah ha-tov to the Jewish children of Avrohom who saved their grandfather Lot.
theprof1ParticipantThere is an interesting Rabbeinu Tam in a tosfos in mesechta Beitza where the Rabbeinu Tam says, I don’t know where the people made so many chumras lately. I didn’t see any of this in my grandfather’s home (Rashi). Rashi himself says on the gemorah, that a heter is better because to be machmir you don’t have to know the real halacha, you just say ossur and that’s it. To give a heter you have to know the halacha clearly. My father z’l would say that a very big meikal is called a “kal”. Therefore a very big machmir would be called a “chamor”.
theprof1Participantaspaklaria was a level of prophecy. all of the prophets “saw” their visions through aspaklaria se’eino meira, a vision that was perfectly clear. it was like looking through a dirty glass. but they understood it because they had a high level of spiritual intellect. moshe rabbeinu was at the highest level, aspaklaria she’meira. he could see as if it were clear as day. the word probably is aramaic.
