HaLeiViParticipant
Charlie, it sounds like you meant to post in the thread about the Egypt crisis.
Mods, this is the second time today that this happened. Could it be a software issue?
HaLeiViParticipantDerech, that’s not what the Ramchal himself writes in his Derech Hashem.
HaLeiViParticipantWolf, that seems to a a list of usages rather than definitions.
HaLeiViParticipantIf you want to compare the situation to Iran, compare it to Iran 30 years ago.
HaLeiViParticipantAha. Now we put the finger on it. The reason people are going off, is because of Medrash!
Mikehall, consider it answered.
HaLeiViParticipantMe neither, which is why I say that if it’s true, it has a reason other than Halacha.
HaLeiViParticipantGood morning:)
HaLeiViParticipantAnother question:
Why is it that when there is only one comment on a thread it will sometimes say there are two?
HaLeiViParticipantHe is obviously refering to something other than Halacha. You can give your child any name you want. There where Rishonim that had similar names as their non Jewish neighbors.
HaLeiViParticipantHmm, now we can ponder the meaning of life, or happiness.

HaLeiViParticipantThe idea of Shiva is Kovod Hamess. Who are you trying to honor when he goes off the D?
January 28, 2011 2:49 am at 2:49 am in reply to: Why do we behave better when we go out in the world? #733000HaLeiViParticipantThe same reason you don’t dress the same when staying at home.
HaLeiViParticipantHaving someone with more than a bias as a teacher does more than provoke debate. Bias means to have leanings a certain way, an activist has a drive, not a bias.
HaLeiViParticipantThey can have him as a guest, that the students can debate or learn from, but to be the one teaching it is not a higher learning by any stretch.
HaLeiViParticipantAlthough many people like and stick up for the Mitzva of Chessed, it is one of many. In fact, if you are busy with another Mitzva you are Pattur from Tzeddaka.
Besides, are you saying that instead of starting a thread about Tznius, we have to start another thread about “How should I do Chessed”?
Tznius is a necessary element in Hashroas Hashchina. Esav kept the Mitzva of honoring his father, because it made sense to him. That’s what it sounds like, to me, when people complain every time a Bein Adam Lamakom issue is brought up.
HaLeiViParticipantA great way to start on your own is to visit http://www.datesite.com there is an excellent html tutorial there.
HaLeiViParticipantI don’t have a BB, but I sometimes use http://www.idaven.com
HaLeiViParticipantIf it is possible for you to get invited out, please accept the offer. You need serious friends to fill the void.

January 26, 2011 1:30 pm at 1:30 pm in reply to: Please List All The Nightmares You Could Bring On Yourself #736528HaLeiViParticipantAt least my name reveals my tribe.
HaLeiViParticipantWhat I find that works even for a real interrupter, is to say, “one minute”, and then continue. They’re not going to say, “no, I wanna interrupt.”
HaLeiViParticipantWhen I get interrupted too many times, I just don’t say what I had in mind to say. His loss.
HaLeiViParticipantJust wondering: The 3 Shavuos threads were closed because of what it might lead to or because of what it did?
HaLeiViParticipantIf they would really be sincere they would discuss solutions that fit both sides. It is no secret that if Israel were to give them what they want that would leave Israel vulnerable to being separated from itself.
HaLeiViParticipantrecovering,
I won’t deny that there are those who suffer from addiction, but to call it a huge problem is pushing it very very far. Nobody in my shul drinks Shnapps by Kiddush. I’ve been to other Shuls, too. I haven’t witnessed this phenomenon. Obviously, you are exposed to that element and you see large enough numbers of sufferers to be alarmed about it. Just keep perspective in mind. When you read all the complaints about ‘the Frum community’ you’d think Boro Park/Lakewood/Flatbush is an insane asylum.
I’m not sure we actually disagree; it’s more an issue of a choice of words.
HaLeiViParticipantrecovering,
I don’t want to underestimate the importance of taking care of these addictions that you mention. But, to say that it is a huge problem in the Frum community is a huge stretch.
I walk the streets of Boro Park every day. I haven’t noticed the streets to be lined with brown paper bags. I have many friends, none of them are alcoholics or drug addicts. Would you advise people not to let their children walk the streets of a Frum neighborhood lest they get beaten up by a Frum addict or kidnapped by a Rebbe?
HaLeiViParticipantThe Rambam did hold that they should be kept, as he writes in his Iggeres Taimon. The only arguable point is if it is a Halacha, to the extent that one would be called an Avaryon for violating it. I never see the other 3 Shavuos getting the same harsh Kanaus. Many have been accused of trying to bring Mashiach before its time. They were never referred to as Ovdey Avoda Zara because of that. The Gemara in Shabbos calls Tzlafchad a Tzadick when considering him as one of the Ma’apilim.
I actually find this art point to be a strong Kasha on the Shita. I didn’t find anywhere in the Satmerer Rebba’s Sefarim that discusses it.
There is also another debate: Were the 2 Shavuos actually violated? The land was legally given to the Zionists, so they weren’t rebelling against the nations in that sense. As for the other Shavua, that would only be a violation if the whole Klal Yisroel would come together as a crusade. We find that in the days of Ezra, it was held against us that we didn’t go up Bechoma. Could it be that what the Zionists did is called Bechoma and what the Yidden did at the time of Koresh is not?
Perhaps you can call the bombing of British installments, a rebellion, perhaps not. However, that never seems to be the argument.
HaLeiViParticipantOne thing you can do is get good friends. Try to spend some Shabbosim with Ehrliche people so that you get a good look at a normal Shabbos.
HaLeiViParticipantJewishness,
There is one thing that can be wrong with the picture, and that is the fact that they have to revert to these tactics in order to convince people to give Tzeddaka. However, there are so many important causes to give to, and they are merely trying to stand out.
Yes, I happen to know that the ones who advertise heavily, pay heavily. Most often, they make a small percentage profit from what they spent. It might be sad, but it’s not wrong.
HaLeiViParticipantThen you weren’t always here.
HaLeiViParticipantMike,
Speaking of names, why did you add numbers to yours? It looks more like a password than a username.
HaLeiViParticipantThe only thing is that sometimes the username is different than the screen name. In my case, for example, you’d have to put in THE_FOX.

HaLeiViParticipantLooks like a guilty conscience was eating up the watermelon.
HaLeiViParticipantIf you feel she’s missed, you can be Menachem yourself with her new name.
HaLeiViParticipantCharlie, you sure keep us on our mental toes!
The Gemara in Kesubos 111a says that there are six Shavuos:
- Not to go up en masse.
- Not to rebel against the nations.
- The nations should not be too harsh on us.
- Not to reveal the end.
- Not to push the end.
- Not to reveal our secrets.
The Gemara first mentions the first three alone, and then brings the rest in the name of Leivi. People often refer to the ‘Three Shavuos’ because of the facts that it is separated in the Gemara, and that the first three pertain directly to the Galus.
In the Hoshanos, four are mentioned because we are referring to all of the Shavuos that are related to Geula. Two of them, not to reveal our secrets and the one for them not to press us too much, aren’t directly related to the Geula.
HaLeiViParticipantThat Maharal is terribly misrepresented. He writes that even if the nations are being so harsh that it is forcing you to leave the Galus, you still shouldn’t. This statement of his was played around with and said over as even if the nations want you to go Eretz Yisroel and they are forcing you under pain of death, you should not listen to them and rather die.
Rabbi Hartman, in his edition has another big Kasha. Just like Yibum is in the place of what would otherwise be Assur, it doesn’t make it more Chamur. Here too, although we are to stay in Galus even while it is dangerous, it doesn’t make it one of the three cardinal sins.
HaLeiViParticipantPopa, if we are talking about switched and not snatched, then we have to see if it was an even trade. If it was a boy for girl, would they have to pay back the ones who raised their boy without getting help? If we find out during Shiduchim, can you charge more Nadden for the new Yichus?
HaLeiViParticipantData is physically put onto the hard drive. When you delete a file, or even the whole disk, it only marks those areas as overwriteable. Until it is overwritten, the information can be retrieved with free software.
HaLeiViParticipantThe Ben Ish Chay writes that it was his family’s Minhag to celebrate a birthday. He says that it’s a Siman Tov.
