Let’s see, around 3,700 terror victims since before Israel’s founding. That’s still safer than New York.

You wouldn’t even know the murder rate of Arabs against Jews in Arab lands since they were hardly prosecuted. Now, I want comparing Israel to Europe, America or the Arab countries. Compare Israel to Israel. It is much safer now to be there than it ever was.

To say that your chances of being attacked in Israel is more than that of Europe is completely off track.

Besides, quality of life for millions of people does have a value. When the early colonists fought the British they were not fighting for their lives. The British were not attacking them. The revolution was totally about quality of life, issues that are trivial by today’s troubles. And yet, they killed and died for it and nobody thought it unreasonable. To point to a few violent byproducts while the successes stare you in the face is not being truthful.

The logical reasons to hate us, given by Arab and European anti-Semites, don’t really make sense. It’s not that they are fooled, either. European hate for Jews is hardly anything new. They simply lied low for a couple of years after the holocaust, when anti-Semitism fell out of style temporarily. Now they are back to their true selves. They’ll hate us when were poor because were poor, when were rich because we’re rich, when we mix with them, when we don’t, when we should ‘go to Palestine/Zion’, or when we actually do so.

Just as Yaakov Avinu told Lavan, ?????? ??? ?????? ????. You hate us when we shine and you hate us when we are low. The reason that they hate us is because they want to.

The Arabs didn’t necessarily have to hate us simply for moving in alongside Tenn in a tiny piece of land. In fact not all of them did hate us. Some of their leaders got them riled up and locked into this position. There are many Arabs who still care very much about their people and are yet pro Israel. These are actually being more logical.

Who cares about not being able to live in Arab countries today? Jews fare a lot better these days in Israel than they have in thousands of years. We can safely fall to the ground and recite ???? ??? ?????. Sure people got killed over the century. People get killed in New York as well.

Unfortunately, in the quest to promote a Shita, people use all sorts of logic that would be repulsive to themselves in any other context. One example of this is the making light of any Ness that took place in EY, or its founding and wars. The arguments sound like any you would hear from the typical local Apikores. They can be applied to the story of Purim and Chanukah as well, and easily enough to many Nissim mentioned in TaNaCh.

They wanted Zionism, they didn’t hate is for it. In the Ruchnius sense I don’t have a say in the matter, other than the holocaust was not all about Hungary.

Hashem is not your secretary or your banker. Again the Mashal of a child asking from his father comes to mind. If he says, give me this and that the father is less likely to give it. When he speaks with his father about how he needs something and why it is beneficial that he has it, the father will very likely relent. Besides for the fact that he explained his need and his father agrees, there is another issue. The fact that it was discussed makes this give and take a relationship. This deserves a response.

We can also learn from the story of the man in the dessert that Hashem wants to answer every Tefilla. When the person is not deserving and He can get away with answering the literal words, Hashem will rather do that than ignore it.

And, to say that you Daven just for the exercise of speaking to Hashem and you aren’t expecting change, is to not believe in Tefilla. For some reason every discussion of Tefilla turns into something about ‘no’ also being an answer. While it is nice and important to realize that we can’t twist Hashem’s arm, that is not the core of Tefilla. Hashem does listen, He does answer, He is ??? ??? ?????, and He answers Tefillos in the real sense of the word.

You mean Adam Harishon. That has nothing to do with Tefillah, actually. He asked if there is such a thing as presents in heaven and when told that there is he donated 70 of his own years.

Anyhow, I added the part about a good enough child exactly for this reason. There is such a thing as changing Mazal but it is very hard and won’t always work. Hashem told Rav Elazar that the only way to change his Mazal would be to redo the world and then to see how it turns out. Understand that passage how you want but Mazal is very powerful.

Not always does lack of any of those three mean it is against your Mazal and it sure pays to Daven for them and to enlist the blessings of holy and righteous people.

The point is to keep in mind that such Bakashos have a different status. When asking for these, if ?”? it is not granted, keep in mind that you were told beforehand of the chances of not being answered. This should not discourage anyone from asking and Davenning for all his needs. The Emuna that Hashem is listening and will answer actually helps, especially if it is a Ruchnius issue.

The Gemara says that you should be very explicit when you ask for something. To prove this point, the Gemara relates how a person traveling in the dessert asked for a donkey, though he didn’t say he wanted it to ride on. Soon after, a group of bandits met up with him and forced him to carry their newborn donkey on shoulders.

DY, they aren’t getting upset they are getting riled up. The first is what someone else does to you, the latter is what you do yourself. They never cared all that much about Har Habayis. When Jews started coming they turned it into their third holiest site. Now they can enjoy playing basketball on their “third holiest site.”

The only mistake with regard to the Har Habayis was to hand it to them after the six day war. Like the Medrash says, whoever tried making peace with them landed up with embarrassment. This has been proven over and over. We are forced to pretend we have hope for peace as long as the Western world thinks there is hope. We might have to go along with the proposals but we already know the outcome.

    ???? ??? ??

    ??? ??? ??? ??? ?????? ?? ?????? ???? ????? ??? ????? ???? ????? ??? ??? ??? ???? ??????? ???? ????? ??? ?? ???? ???? ????? ??? ???? ???? ????? ?? ???? ??? ????? ?????? ???? ??? ??? ?????

Three things depend on Mazal (fate) rather than merit: life, children and Parnassa. Rabbah and Rav Chisda were both compete Tzaddikim, when either of them prayed for rain they were instantly answered. And yet, Rav Chisda lived 90 years while Rabba lived 40.

    ?? ??? ???? ????? ?? ??

You Daven earnestly and Hashem listens. ??? ??? ??????? ????. Certainly there are certain things that aren’t good for you. Do you think Hashem will punish you for Davenning by giving you what isn’t good for you? Obviously, your Tefillah will be put away for another time and it won’t be granted. But this is not the case for most things. Most things you Daven for were simply waiting for you to Daven for them.

Where it comes into play is that you shouldn’t press on when you see it isn’t being granted. You can ask again and again but not by pushing. Chazal teach that we learn from ?????? that we can keep on asking. Yet still, they tell us not to press.

Now, most important of all, while the reason Hashem created the situation that we must ask to get is indeed to be able to connect to Him, to be eating from His table, the immediate reason we are asking is in order to get. The more you will be ??????? ???? the more you will see ???? ?’ ??? ??????.

People spend most of their Tefillos on those things of which Chazal say ??? ?????? ???? ??? ????? and then wonder why they don’t get answered. We should learn to be ???? ?????, to express what you need and why and how you will use it.

As I and many acquaintances who’ve paid attention have seen, Hashem listens to our Tefillos. Most requests from a child to his father can be met but not if it is either dangerous or too big. But even when it is too big of a request, a good enough child might be able to get his way.

As far as doing hobbies (at night, Bein Hasdorim, etc.) Bochurim are definitely free to do these. Obviously they won’t be considered Masmidim by drumming three hours every night, and they shouldn’t be. Perhaps there is this ???? ?????? that’s keeping people from doing hobbies.

I happened to have managed more than one hobby, and come to think of it, even my own Limudim during certain free time.

Mashgichim of some Yeshivos would try to discourage other activities in their quest to turn you into a Masmid. Usually, once they realize that a particular Bochur won’t become a full time Masmid they stop discouraging him from doing his hobbies.

DY, a picture is surely ‘definite intentional gazing.’ I can’t think of anything else to call it. Passing in the street, or even short glances while conversing, is not.

The point of ???? ???? is exactly that it doesn’t make a difference how they are dressed or what they look like. ??????? is Assur. The only Hetter would be if it is not directly a picture of this one person or if she is not alive.

There is no Issur in printing a picture but that would mean I have to be on guard even in a publication that was meant for me. There surely is no reason (I can think of) not to print them in women’s magazines.

Some people are really trying hard. You find it not to your taste? Fine. Falsehood? My goodness. Are they testifying to something here? Is YWN falsifying anything when they put up stock photos or funny shots of politicians? The newspaper wants to put in a picture so that it should be more interesting. That’s all. They are doing a service for their readers (or voters), who want exactly this type of service.

And as for: “In journalism, altering a photo is a cardinal sin,” perhaps they are more concerned with other types of sins.

This whole journalism ?????? is the biggest falsehood of them all. Instead of relating facts evenly — what we would call balanced, but can lead to unbalanced opinions — more often than not journalists see their job as to produce balanced opinions through unbalanced reporting.

Me too. A picture is the equivalent to coming up close and staring the person in the face, without the creepy part. Those who don’t look into the face women they are conversing with would choose not to have a picture in a paper placating to them. Instead of having to focus away and be conscious and on the lookout, they finally have something they can comfortably read without all that.

If it were up to me, I’d be Mechaleq between a picture of one person and of many, which is not like looking the person in the face.
