i just signed up to yeshiva world recently its been interesting because everyone has such distinct personalities.
I just want to say that we got our screen name from our band which iy”h will someday be an actuality. If anyone has any advice on how to get started i would appreciate the info.
the chavrusahsMembersorry charlie brown but the reason we all post is because we all think we know best. It is a place where we are free to vent in an anonymous way. MOst people are just shooting off whatever comes to mind. If this offends you i’m sorry and stay off this thread. Sometimes it is healthy to let people vent because from the fact this topic keeps coming up it is obviously on peoples mind.
the chavrusahsMemberThank you Joseph for so kindly looking up the sources for us . Whether we now agree or disagree we must bring sources. Its funny how as Yiddin who follow halacha so stringently we tend to shoot off whatever emotion we are feeling at a moment.
I just want to add to the general thread that yes the chachamin gave p’sak on what is innapropriate according to the halachos of tziut, yet we must be careful to follow the actual halacha (such as what is considered erva) and then talk to your rav for specifics that you as an individual should be keeping. The reason for this is that forcing people to take upon chumras and passing it off as halacha may cause people such as teenagers who are questioning Judiasm to be turned off. If you want to take on chumras KOL HAKAVOD but please don’t impose it on others.
the chavrusahsMembermy post was in regards to TOHIGHSCHOOLGUY
the chavrusahsMemberwow thanks for being brave- because you threw that out I think i’ll just add. we all the famous gemara in k’dushin chuf tes alef in which r’ yehudah states that “anyone who does not teach his son a trade, it is as if he taught him to steal”. Obviously learning a trade is for the purpose of working not for idle knowledge. Yes one should find as much time as possible to learn but the healthy way of living perscribed by this gemara is to have a trade.
Another point is back in europe, the percentages of boys in yeshiva was absolutly minuscule. Only the very elite of the bochrim got an oppotunity to learn in yeshiva. Yes there must be learning going on in klal yisroel in order for us to stay alive, but does every third rate bochur need to stay in yeshiva instead of being productive by helping klal yisroel in other ways?

While this site may be a kosher site, it still proves why so many rabanim assured the internet(besides for innapropriate content) Because it cause BITUL Z”MAN.
the chavrusahsMemberthe question about owning a dog is not specific for only a dog, but applies to other animals as well, such as cats. Why would this be an issue? Because we all the the stringencies laid out by the shulchan aruch about making brochos or davening in a makom with there is a re’ach ra (bad smell). It is utterly unpermissable, therefore if you will have an animal that will smell up your whole house, don’t do it.
