An Englishman, Frenchman, Mexican, and Texan were flying across country on a small plane when the pilot comes on the loud speaker and says ” We’re having mechanical problems and the only way we can make it to the next airport is for 3 of you to open the door and jump, at least one of you can survive” The four open the door and look out below. The Englishman takes a deep breath and hollers “God Save The Queen” and jumps. The Frenchman gets really inspired and hollers “Viva La France” and he also jumps. This really pumps up the Texan so he hollers “Remember the Alamo” and he grabs the Mexican and throws him out of the plane.
DocParticipantMod 99:
The problem with that approach is that it makes it difficult for everyone to keep track of what they read, when newer stuff is posted earlier than older stuff.
Your going to read it all anyways, you ought to do it in order. Oldest to newest.
DocParticipantI can only try:
Many frum yidden will not acknowledge kratsmich with a “happy holiday”, for many of the reasons outlined by others above.
DocParticipantgavra_at_work:
You seem to have this bad attitude that if you ask someone something they are obligated to be there and respond to you. Or if someone makes a comment, it is mandatory that they respond to all posters who comment on it. This is far from the case. And additionally, not everyone has a laissez-faire boss who allows them to surf the net the entire workday on non-business related matters.
And who exactly are you anyways to demand that “a certain person not post anything”? Do you own or run this site? You didn’t even start this very thread!
You said “I also have seen Rishonim misquote other Rishonim”, and you are treading on very thin ice there. Who are YOU to say so? Perhaps the Rishonim quoting other Rishonim got it correct, and the quote YOU saw is incorrect.
DocParticipantDr. Pepper:
A “hartziga Mazel Tov!”
I can only try:
Gotcha!
Did anyone ever mention you have a way with words? 🙂
DocParticipant646, rob presented BOTH sides of the argument and you said you just want a mekor for the lenient side. But a few people already pointed out this fact to you, and you personally attacked them (“you look stupid and immature”) and denied what you said previously, writing it off as “nitpicking on my words.”
Well they were your words alright!
I don’t actually expect you to face reality, so I don’t see any point in furthering this discussion with you.
DocParticipant646, Every one I’ve read.
DocParticipantI can only try:
Can you clarify who/what you meant above by “Even the most negative personality…”?
Thanks
DocParticipant646, when you lose an argument (as you normally do), saying someone is “nitpicking” your words may make you feel better, but won’t change the metzius of anything. And I agree with gavra’s request that you not engage in personal attacks, such as how you ended your post with “you look stupid and immature.”
And if Shulchen Aruch paskened a halacha that the velt accepted, there is no justification for going searching for a “meikel” shitta.
DocParticipantYanky, Please don’t hijack this thread and do everyone a favor and start a new thread entitled “letzonus” for all your letzonus. There are some other posters who are sure to join you.
DocParticipantThe concern is that if someone posts something counter to the Torah, like “live and let live” when it comes to something as clear-cut as driving on Shabbos (an actual discussion here, believe it or not), even if they say it nice and logically (i.e. “I don’t drive on Shabbos, but if someone else does who am I to judge?”) we must protest such gibberish as loudly as we can. There is no room for “disagreement” (or to “agree to disagree”) on such issues.
And its bad enough for someone to C’V drive on Shabbos, whether he is unaware or whatever, himself. But its quite another for someone (especially one who calls themselves Shomer Torah U’Mitzvos) to attempt to publicly JUSTIFY such aveiros. That cannot stand.
DocParticipantgavra_at_work:
re: “I will ask that a certain person/blogger”
That post was uncalled for and counterproductive. And whoever you addressed it to, probably has no idea it is he. Whoever it is, doesn’t think of himself in those terms, even if your description is correct (which is a question.) And everyone else started wondering if you meant him, decided you didn’t, and figured it was whoever’s comments they like least.
And if that poster did know you were addressing him, he would most likely do precisely the opposite of what you request. The only one I can imagine you are talking about is y55.
So what exactly do you think that accomplished?

Like feivel said, your child asked an excellent question.
The question is very relevant. It makes all the difference.
Acheinu “Bnei Yisroel”
DocParticipantIn fact I have no idea what gavra_at_work was thinking. “men asking strange women personal details about their lives” is a figment of the overly vivid imagination.
DocParticipantnoitallmr is correct. To the credit of the mods, although things that shouldn’t have made it on (i.e. kefira) have, flirting has never ever gotten past the mods acute eyes to these forums.

Just to clarify, your schools and Rabbonim allow all of the aforementioned books in this thread (or at least all the ones you mentioned/recommended)?
Thanks
DocParticipantjf02, most of the questions here ARE political in nature. (Although the oilam’s political viewpoints are out of sync with yours, thats no reason to refrain from discussion…) 🙂
DocParticipantjf02, We all agree with you on that; it certainly is a very positive development.
On an unrelated note, we’ve noticed the level acrimony has gone done considerably, as of late. 😉
DocParticipantPersonally, I think the moderators should reject about 60% of the comments that make it to the board.

Of course they will come up with excuses beating around the bush in avoiding that question…

DocParticipantcantor, But you must admit something that appears to have occurred naturally, may in fact have occurred miraculously, despite its seemingly natural explanation. (Even using your definition of a miracle.)
DocParticipantcantor, if you don’t deny miracles occur, why assume anything appearing “natural” is less than miraculous?
Instead of relying on the logic of some pruste Franciscan friar, why not realize everyday miracles occur all around you?
DocParticipantGive me a break:
What Yeshiva?
DocParticipantGive Me a Break:
No one. In fact, it was rhetorical in nature, and essentially addressed to everyone but yourself.
DocParticipantGIVE ME A BREAK:
Barack Hussein Obama has previously expressed his earnest desire to meet with (whom he hopes to be his contemporary fellow President), Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. As an Obama supporter, perhaps you can petition for a preliminary meeting of these 2 great minds (now that Ahmadinejad is conveniently in New York) so they can establish a rapporteur in preparation for Obama establishing a Chamberlainesqe peace treaty with Ahmadinejad when he meets him, should we be so unfortunate that he obtains office.
DocParticipantItzik: And if people think they represent Orthodox Jewry? What is the ultimate damage? The way I see it, is that there still clowns who have no impact, known or unknown.
DocParticipantItzik: Do you think these clowns are doing any damage? They are clowns and all, but who is getting hurt?
DocParticipantMaaser’s “floor” is 10%, while its “ceiling” is 20%.
DocParticipantoutoftowner:
You are completely correct.

If you saw someone like that walking with a skirt that went above the knee half the time, with every step she took, would you say the same?
DocParticipantMariner:
I am very surprised at your words. I must add my words of protest to it, as it as close to kefira – if not actually – that I’ve seen in a long time.
Referring to any portion of the Torah Hakedosha as ‘irrelevant’ is way over the line. And to say something from the Torah ‘No longer applies’? (And you also said its ‘technically still applicable’ as if its only some form of ‘technicality.’) And that it is from ‘two thousand years’ ago?
Mariner, I am very surprised with you. I will not engage in some of the harsh language, but I certainly can see why someone would respond so harshly to such near (at least) apikorsus.
DocParticipantI still am tickled by the irony, as someone pointed out several weeks ago, that the 2 biggest Zionists in our midsts, rabbiofberlin & Pashuteh Yid’s children are black hatters who have returned to the fold! This is the almost universal experience…
DocParticipantFolks, this long debate is all academic. The facts on the ground is Zionism is fading away due to “natural causes”, if you will. There are few Zionists left. And the ones in power are literally giving away the land piecemeal, year by year. The idealists are the ones with white hair, and even they have resigned themselves to the follies of their idealistic youths. From the youth today, few even know what Zionism was.
The Chofetz Chaim’s cry about the State being another Bulgaria is sadly true.
August 26, 2008 11:27 pm at 11:27 pm in reply to: Still Fuming At Rabbi Belsky And Mishpacha #621478DocParticipantcantoresq: the trains passenger list is public information available on the website kastners defenders setup, that you provided on the previous page. it is untenable to deny that it is mostly constituted of kastners cronies. (ironically, we keep hearing in the news from zionist circles, including recently, that “new information” exonerates kastner. obviously the zionist themselves ad hayom hazeh realize this is a black mark that they cannot so easily coverup that they still feel the need to defend themselves 50-60 years later.)
you still haven’t responded to my query for what reason on earth did eichmann agree to provided this train to kastner. there must’ve been some benefit to eichmann coming from kastner for eichmann to make such a monumental arrangement on kastners behalf.
you ask other for their sources. what is your sources for all your claims?
DocParticipantcatnores: how did kasztner select people for his train? i’ve wondered about that for awhile. you asked someone above for documentation that he sold tickets for profit, so i assume you don’t know yourself, since you are asking. but if you do, kindly would you share that information?
i’ve actually seen in the past authoritative information that most of the slots were taken by his family and friends. whatever was left i don’t know, but pray tell why would a sworn zionist like kasztner voluntarily select the satmar rebbe (the biggest anti-zionist in all of occupied europe) given he was in control of who got on? (if he was just trying to prove that he wasn’t just choosing his own, why not some less rabid anti-zionist?) that is the million dollar question to me.
what also needs explanation is why eichmann agreed to give kasztner this escape train to switzerland. obviously eichmann must’ve gotten something in return from kasztner. all evidence proves that kasztner kept the jews in hungary quiet (by withholding the information that eichmann was planning their extermination), so they wouldn’t riot opposing deportation to aushwitz, since eichmann didn’t want a repeat of the warsaw uprising. a long time ago i looked into these historical records and it was proven by all unaffiliated experts on this historical period that kasztner was essentially a nazi who coincidentally was of jewish ethnic background. (i don’t care about crony baloney, one of many outstanding proofs of this is that even a zionist court which has every interest to prove his innocence if he had been innocent, would admit his guilt with a court conviction, regardless of future appeals.)
it seems to me that you will try to delegitimize anyone who proves kasztners guilt. so be it. but if you have any information how he made the selections, i’d like to hear it.
DocParticipantI guess that the Rabad is more “meikel” than the Rambam on what the appropriate punishment is. The Sefardim usually pasken with the Rambam.
DocParticipantshuali said this on a post in the main site, and I thought it worthwhile and appropriate reposting to this thread:
