I am no one’s hero. I have (as I have learned) a lot of posters who dislike me, my style, some of my (ok, skewed) hashkafos. The reason you don’t see their “disagreement” (brawl) is only due to the attentiveness, and righteousness of our ever vigilant Mods. THANK YOU MODS!! (I mean it – I’m serious this once)

I’ve toned down considerably, both here and IRL (that’s the abbreviation for some alien planet), due to some “turbulence” I’d rather not get into. Those who do know, I respectfully ask not to bring it up. ????? ????? is real (and it hurts too). Knowing I was anyone’s fan is a nechama, a boost, support. And for that I thank you, above dear posters. But running so boisterously and so ostentatiously was what (I think) brought me low. Ever so low.

    ..so now I’m just

    Little Froggie, (croak, croak)

ps. enjoy me if you dare, ignore me if you must

Right, through both. Or if he was somehow invalidated.

The last thing I want to do is to is to make a MOD r”l dizzy. I cannot even fathom it’s far reaching consequences, how I shudder (another of those shuddering threads) to think of the enormity of its aftermath.

Oh, sorry rebyidd, seems like you were “shvitzing” over this very hard “ketzos”, for over a year. Whew!!

Me too. I just thought of a “mehalech”, a theory, hypothesis, explanation in those very cryptic words. Could be ZK was taught writing, spelling and also mathematics (and maybe other things too).

And ZK was subtly conveying to the OP the benefit (need) of using good writing skills. – my own theory.

I could think why people won’t put it in their pockets on Shabbos, for fear of walking out with it. I just don’t understand why they won’t make use of the modern trash receptacles.

Something that should disgust any other normal human should definitely be removed – CLEANLINESS IS NEXT TO GODLINESS!

Again, don’t get me wrong. I wouldn’t put my children where they’re likely to c”v get hurt, either. I wouldn’t place them in a cart where their possible to fall out from. I’m just saying (read again what I wrote) there’s a BIG difference between being careful, prudent, with sense, than going entirely overboard and making this “child-safety” into a religion with a life of it’s own. Read again what I wrote. No, I’m not blithely careless, reckless, neglectful or anything of the sort. (ask any of my children… forget it, don’t ask)

I’m just not into going totally meshuga crazy with the latest religion of child-safety. Child Safety. Child Precaution. Child Alert. Child Protection. Version this. Revision that. Recall. Re-recall…

Again, I’m calling for a measure of common sense, to differentiate. ?? ??? ??? ????? ?????. There’s a middle path, the NORMAL path. There’s a mitzvah in the Torah (Rambam, I think also quotes) to eliminate any ???? and ??????? from one’s home – ??? ???? ???? ??????. Gates on steps are certainly included. And so are all others in this category. However going overboard, crazy, is no mitzvah. To be over-over-over paranoid watchful is wacky. Placing my cuty under my watchful eye in a cart is in NO WAY a danger. (no more danger then letting her in the same house as her brother..)

in reply to: Disturbing thing I saw #1000026

Maybe not. Maybe some adopt to the live and let live theory.

There’s a certain amount of hishtadlus, normal care, concern, prudence a person must make regarding every important possession, all the more, one’s own children. However, going overboard is not the way. Like telling the Ribono Shel Olam – Ha! Let’s see you do something to my child! He’s in a certified FAA, CDC,CDH ASA (any other combinations?) #12.22.333 child restraint upgrade for Jan. 2014. (Dec. 2013 won’t do, it’s not safe enough) Oh, in the new (multi-million dollar series) baby’s health book, it says that from now on, it’s only safe to carry a baby with two people, (one time, a single person r”l dropped..). Oh they made a survey (somewhere) about the absolute DANGERS of a baby sucking (accidentally) his finger. From now on all fingers must be sterilized (boiling water, bleach, anti-this anti-that)

Actually that’s the famous line, if you want to know how many children one has, see how they clean off a dropped pacifier (ok I know in the new book they totally outlawed pacifiers – they cause unpronounceable-itis and unpronounceable-ella) By the first one they clean it in boiling water, by the second tap water will do. By the third, Mommy licks it clean…

Yes, people are supposed to be careful, not to go totally meshuga. Putting a child in the basket?!? GASP!! Putting something on top of him/her?!? GASP!! C’mon people. We’ve been surviving that for the past six thousand years (I wouldn’t be here otherwise). Oh, we now learned to “correct” angle, height, weight etc. to do it correctly. (it’s going to be re-re-re-revised next month)

One needs “Daas” to differentiate between something dangerous and not. Nothing “dangerous” here. (do you know the chances you take by stepping out of your house every day? What if.. could even be.. Heaven forfend, if..)

As I said LIVE AND LET LIVE

in reply to: Lashon Hora: Our hardest tikkun? #999195

    One last time:

Again (and again), yes, I know about the Villna Goan, Chofetz Chaim. These are most severe sins. However, as I pointed out earlier, there are many, many seforim that talk about different aspects that have to be mended. Formost, as I mentioned, is limud haTorah, as the Ohr Hachaim clearly writes.

Had the geulah been contingent on Shmiras haDibur alone, the Mashiach would long have been here, as I mentioned the so many Shmiras haDibur groups. The only ones I find talking bad are those that say we talk bad.

I completely lost you drift in this last one:

“1. Ayn Torah b’goyim. Yesh chochma b’goyim – Positive speech brings prosperity?”

-Who?, what? (is that a new ma’amar chazal??)

“2. The face of the generation of Moshiach will be like dogs–Our Sages compare speakers of lashon hora to dogs.”

-is this some new “pshat” you’re attributing to the holy words of Chazal? (actually no one compares speakers of lashon hora to dogs, it says it it fit to throw him to the dogs – ???? ??????? ??????.

“3. On a regular year, Tzaria and Metzora are read together–are they connected to choosing life?”

    -again Who?, what? (and where).

As I wrote before, those are very severe sins, ???? ??? ?????? ???? ????? ????. However they don’t constitute the whole Torah or YiddishKite.

The one previously about having our Yomim Tovim something to do with sinas chinam – I didn’t want to respond. But I guess if you’re still sticking to this, I might as well…

    —-

“…I want to reiterate that every part of our Torah is holy and meant to make us holy, but that according to many of our Torah sources and our holidays is the concept of the removal of sinas chinam. During Pesach, we ask that we be rid of our enemies. (WHAT?!?) During Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur we ask that we be forgiven by our enemies.(Repeat – WHAT?!? We ask forgiviness from HaShem, incidentally, Yom Kippur does not forgive if one has not made up with one he/she wronged.) When we sleep at night, we say we will forgive everyone who has hurt us. (good idea) Sodom and Gomorrah (amorah, gemorah is what we learn) was destroyed because of cruelty. (and many other sins, true, the leading one was bain adam lchaveiro) In the morning, we pray not to be hurt by anyone. (We do?!? – and therefore??) In Psalms, we read about enemies and ask Hashem to protect us. (I’d like to be protected from my enemies too, wouldn’t you?) On Yom Kippur we read the story of Jonah, where he had to remind the people of Ninveh to be kind to one another. In Shavuot, we read about an exemplary relationship between Ruth and her mother-in-law. (we read from the Torah about many more things irrelevant to relationships, why Rus is read is for many reasons) During the Omer, we learn about Rabbi Akiva’s students who didn’t respect one another. (yes, we do, that’s a season to perfect ourselves in these aspects) During the Av, we learn about the destruction of the Second Temple due to sinas chinam. (and in the case of the first bais hamikdash, other grave sins, learning Torah) Purim, when camaraderie is at its best, is an example of the future redemption. (again, WHAT?!?) Am I missing something or are most of the holidays related to teaching us how to behave bein adam Lchavero? (I can’t comment if you’re missing anything. Yomim Tovim, moadei HaShem, is something between a person and his creator. Period. No matter how you want to distort, contort. Of course there’s a general mitzvah that a person should think of another less fortunate, especially during Holidays, and make them likewise joyful – it’s NOT THE ESSENCE of the moed) I think that when the Torah talks about enemies, we see that as other nations, when in fact they can be people in our lives or personal enemies..(completely lost you here)

in reply to: Lashon Hora: Our hardest tikkun? #999185

    Again:

    1) the whole Torah is definitely NOT bein adam l’chavero. As for what Hillel responded to that Non-Jew, there are many, many mefarshim, answers. The place is not here. It can obviously not be taken at face value.

    2) As I pointed, sefarim, so numerous, each list certain aspects that need to be mended. The famous one of the Ohr Hachaim – limud haTorah. Others point to Kedushah – tznius. Shmiras halashon is one. Of many.

    3) It’s not the job of a Jew to be a so called “light unto the nations”. We are bidden to do the mitzvohs of HaShem, because that is His willing. Nothing more, nothing less. Incidentally, while scrupulously fullfilling HaShem’s commandments, we become a “light unto the nations”, but it’s not our focus, or goal at all.

    4) Sure, we have way to go in Shmiras Halashon, as you pointed out. However, you failed to mention the so many communities where there are groups so diligently studying (and eventually practicing) these complex laws. Is there even such a concept by the non-Jews? To study laws in order to KEEP THEM?!? Refraining from derogatory speech, even where the subject is NOT PRESENT?!? Not hurting someone’s feelings?!? WHO but us YIDDEN?

in reply to: Lashon Hora: Our hardest tikkun? #999180

I don’t think it says anywhere that the building of the bais hamikdash is contingent exclusively on the perfection of the laws of speech. It certainly helps, however there are many areas that could use refinement.
