TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMember
totaly agreeing with you. Kudos for you for getting up and saying it, and YWN for posting it
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberazi …
who are you to decide what is tzniyus or not? if you don’t like it, discuss it with her, your father or your rebbe.
but don’t think about doing something so wrong and stupid, and then try to justify yourself using the postings of the people on this website
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberthey made parodies of the good, popular non jewish songs and put them to jewish words.
in my opinion, it’s alot more creative then the variations/shlock rock stuff.
go to mostlymusic for clips
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberGO JAYS GO!!!!! :>)
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberwhile i am not denying in any way the severe dangers of the internet, i am unable to understand why allowing teenagers to access information is such a bad thing. I think that this attitude of totally sheltering kids is backfiring on us, and that the best way to deal with it is by educating teenagers in the proper uses of the internet (as it can be used as a tremendous source of information and benefit)
that being said, however, there must also be some level of control. Why not just treat the internet like yichud? no access unless someone else (who is responsible) is around
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberyou can do whatever you want … but why must you (publicly) start judging everyone else on there attire or lack thereof during davening?
you work on yourself, and stop involving yourselves in other peoples business
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberonce we’re talking technicalities … how can i change my info (username, screennamre etc.)?
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberoh and koton … don’t bring in the shaitel situation … it was a psak that got blown totaly out of proportion to who and what it was directed at and for
June 22, 2008 9:22 pm at 9:22 pm in reply to: A Thread That is Not Really About a New Cd by Boruch Levine #1026318TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberwilli … i’m not justifying my listening to non-jewish music … but at least there is some talent involved … not like the jewish music hwhich is copied.
However, you are totaly missing my point, which is, regardless of how I know it, that is the (sad and pathetic) state of Jewish music today.
Whether it was the old singers (MBD for example) or the new ones lots of stuff is taken from non jewish music … that’s probably why some of it actually sounds good
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberthere are those who allow shaving of the beard. however, to each their own.
also, my rebbe heard from Rav Kamenetsky (I think) that each shaver must be tested by a competent halachic authority prior to using them … that includes remmington

June 20, 2008 12:35 am at 12:35 am in reply to: A Thread That is Not Really About a New Cd by Boruch Levine #1026313TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberwow … jphone:
don’t get me started. Axle F isn’t even the worst of it. Here is a partial list of singers/bands that jewish music has copied from:
Guns and Roses, Andrew Loyd Webber, U2, Abba, Usher, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Led Zeppelin, Billy Joel and others who I cannot remember off the top of my head right now
I think that most non-jewish music today is better than the Jewish stuff … at least they tell us exactly what their music will be like (that was sarcastic btw)
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberJoseph, while much of the 60’s and 70’s were bad, I am not going to argue. however that was not my point. everyone seems to complain that he is taking today’s nonjewish music, which is incorrect. that is also why i excluded the usher and lion king song … b/c those are the two exeptions
however, joseph, true say … point taken
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberno … granted … I understand that. But once it is already on my iPod, then am I really copying the CD?
Also, this was a theoretical question. I happen to try to avoid usen non-paid-for Jewish media, although, since in Canada, file sharing is legal, I have no problem downloading cd’s and movies, b/c accd to dina demalchusa, it is not stealing.
also, even if Harav elyashiv said that dina demalchusa does not apply between 2 jews, my original question still remains. Is it stealing, from a Jewish-Law point, according to HALACHA (which would put into question the text on the back of most jewish cds
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberalthough i disagree with modern orthodoxy in many respects, to say that they do not have gedolim is simply not true. they have their own rabbonim and have a right to follow them
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberTo all those people who say that lipa’s music is/was goyish, you obviously have never listened to non jewish music. His style might have been popular with hippies in the 70’s who were so high that any music was “spiritual”
any of the new bands today (or even the old classics) sound nothing like non jewish music. bring me one example of a case where he copied (not the intentional ones like usher or in the jungle) and i will retract this post.
