November 24, 2008 11:15 pm at 11:15 pm in reply to: How do Violent PC Games Affect Our Kids? #626190TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberno question that it has been scientifically proven that they bring out innate violent tendencies. However, I think there needs to be guidlines, as kids do need an outlet. and although most people will disagree with me, there is plenty of kosher secular entertainment out there, you just have to find it
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberwe got off of the original topic … women not being allowed to drive is the most ridiculous question i have seen discussed here so far … as to whether or not they can drive … (lol, kidding)
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberb/c that’s what I am
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberhow about you first, Will Hill?
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberwhat is syms?
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberoh really … and what is the problem with having a kosher drink at a bar while watching football?
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberHow about listening to what Gitty has to say instead of jumping on her? Why is the assumption that she is doing it to cause “trouble?”
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberthank you joseph for putting up the original link
November 17, 2008 1:58 am at 1:58 am in reply to: Help a Frum Girl Win $100,000 With a Simple Vote #625125TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberdunno … it says one per email address … not person thats why im curious
November 17, 2008 1:05 am at 1:05 am in reply to: Help a Frum Girl Win $100,000 With a Simple Vote #625121TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberIt is being announced on the 17th … they are tallying the “official” votes now?
Just curious, wonder if they will let multiple votes from one IP address through?
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberGitty … can I ask you 2 questions?
1) How old are you?
2) Have you ever spoken to anyone who is considered an “expert” in these area, outside of the people who post on the Yeshiva World?
I am not enough of an expert myself to answer all of your questions, but a lot of the points that you are raising are issues that I myself have struggled with, and have had pretty much all of them answered. While most of the people on YWN are very sincere and well meaning, I personally do not think (even though I comment just like everyone else) that a such a public forum is the most opportune place to discuss such deep and relevant issues.
I don’t know if anyone agrees with me on this, and let me reiterate that I am just as guilty of this as everyone else, but at least consider what I said
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMembershhhhhh!!!! lol
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberANON FOR THIS: kind of … we had to do an analysis for it in english … it was a great story
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberhow about a classic … like bay breeze or sea breeze?
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberkk … couple of problems … bircas hachama this year is on erev pesach not the first day
also, the chazon ish was r’ chaims uncle not grandfather …
i haven’t really looked for inconsistencies, but these two popped out at me right away
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberalanzaguto, what yeshiva are you in?
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberi mistyped … sorry, i meant why shouldn’t as well my apologies
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberThat is why “rosh yeshiva” was in quotes … also, an unusual occurrence, but I fully agree with jewishfeminist02 … why should high school girls be online?
Considering the attitudes in most high schools today to these sorts of questions, the internet could very well be the best place to receive some answers?
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberUmmm … squeak?
ever heard of the fairness doctrine … a reinterpreted version can do a lot of damage, and with this congress and a president who has already said he would not veto it, im not so sure
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberGila … I am not sure if you are correct or not on your statement.
As far as I know, and if I can recall, HaRav Herchel Shachter wrote a lengthy article on this subject in one of Yeshiva Universities publications’s, the sexual attraction of a woman’s hair is in the hair itstelf, and not necessarily in a real looking wig (no matter how good)
In addition, forgive my cynicism, but I really do not place stock in these Psakim that are coming out for two seperate reasons.
1) I do not trust the people informing R’ Elyashiv (they have proven themselves to be so)
2) I think that his psakim are taken out of context and what we here is not what we said
In addition, since when is Rav Elyashiv appointed the Rav of the entire world. I have very simple solution … Go ask your local Orthodox Rabbi. It is ridiculous that we must constantly be running to E”Y for every question
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberGila … that is a ridiculously complicated question that is not within the scope of anyone to answer on this site.
My personal suggestion? Ask a your Rav (or if you are younger) your “rosh yeshiva” and see if he can give you a response
From what I know, it is a complicated issue that will not be done full justice given the brevity of most comments on this site
November 6, 2008 12:47 am at 12:47 am in reply to: Racism is Proven Dead. Lets Kill Reverse Racism. #645539TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberGILA:
While that is true, the point is not that it is wrong … the point is that REVERSE RACISM is still very much alive and well … take a look (or rather, don’t) at Trinity’s website to see what their ideas on this are. That is what Black Liberation theology is about, and all it’s offshoots as well (of which Obama was a part)
November 2, 2008 4:22 am at 4:22 am in reply to: Sowell: Obama Win Would Be Historic Tragedy #623441TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberThomas Sowell is a African American Conservative Economist, and his other writings (were using his book, “basic economics,” in my grade 12 economics class) are all just as well written
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberand to come to mariners defense … he really knows what he is saying … helped me figure out why my computer was screwed up a while ago … although, for some reason, i am getting a 404 on the second link that mariner posted, but am not sure why
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberso, TrueHonesty, you are prepared to sacrifice your most important right as a citizen (the right to vote), and effectively hand your ballot to someone who you feel is supporting the wrong candidate? I honestly feel bad for you
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberoh and squeak … that comment was kind of pathetic … but if you want to start a semantical argument on guy or bocher, find someone who cares
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberDarchei Torah in Toronto
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberi’m also in 12th, and have been talking to a couple of guys from my yeshiva who are there now
they seem to be learning really well, love the rabbeim, and only have positive things to say about the yeshiva
dont know much about merkaz … sory
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberi davened with my yeshiva
we started at 8, and finished at 3
i dont think that anyone who took the davening seriously found it to be long
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMembermariner … thank you very much … it is extremely appreciated … have an excelent shabbos and a shanah tovah

TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberi downloaded hijack this, and when i tried to run it, it gave me a message: “unable to perform because the other program is running”
when i tried to switch to the “other program” it still just gives me the same message
any suggestions .. thanks a ton for your time
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberhope everyone had a meaningfull slichos.
the subject has changed slightly from the original post, so I would like to re-state, and re-elaborate my question
I am running (preloaded) windows vista basic on an acer laptop with a 1.8 ghz processer, 1.5 gig of ram, the max. amount of virtual ram that it would let me set, and with all extra processes and services turned off.
However, when I try to, for example, delete or copy a file on my desktop, or try to rename any folder/file on both my computer and my desktop, that explorer window freezes up … but doesn’t seem to affect anything else. Anyone got any ideas?
Also, in task manager, my processer always seems to be operating at 100% … this doesn’t make sense … can anyone make heads or tales of this?
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberelementary rebbe who touches a kid … out … no question about it
high school rebbe … more complicated … kids by that age know, and if they dont there is something seriously wrong, what is innappropriate or no
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberI am also part of peta … People Eating Tasty Animals (lol)
If you have ever looked at their website, while their ideals might not be bad, the level to which they carry them (remember the ad “holocaust on a plate?”) and the fact that they raise animals to the status of human beings … (i believe it was Pamela Anderson who said that if she had to save a dog or a human from drowning, she would save the dog) is what is disgusting, and makes the entire organization intolerable
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberhere is someone’s recipie for good vegitearian burgers
1) take one pack of tofu and pour it into a bowl
2) combine all the spices together into another bowl
3) dump the tofu, and use real beef
4) you get the point?
September 17, 2008 11:02 am at 11:02 am in reply to: Should Yeshiva Bochrim Dress in “Style” ? #622194TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberdefine in “style”
I think that clothing is something that is way overrated in terms of ones judaism. however, i can understand why some people would find it important.
in order to create a kiddush hashem, i think that yeshiva bochurim should always look neat and presentable, regardless of the type of clothing (you can look neat and clean in jeans also)
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMembertzippi … i am already way past 7th and 8th and therefore do not have much contact with them. I am in 12th and am relying on my experiences as a 7th and 8th grader, where these subjects (which include substance abuse btw, which is just as important as “sex education”)
charlie brown … while kids would still go do that, the desire would be alot less, because the aspect of “rebellion” would be removed. I still do not understand the problem with a relationship between guys and girls, and have not been able to get a concrete answer out of anyone.
SJSinNYC, couldn’t agree with you more … it almost seems to me that the teachers are scared of the subject themselves, and as a result, simply place a taboo on it. I am of the opinion that actually discussing things will lead to more confident and intellectually secure Jewish teenagers, something that unfortunately, we are severely lacking
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberteenager … I happen to think your idea is great, however, unfortunately, I don’t even know if it is practical, simply for the reason that people will (unfortunately), never go for it. I also happen to know a whole bunch of my friends who a: are boys and b: have stayed shomer.
I think in an out-of-town type of setting it will be easier to institute, but sadly, I am extremely doubtful that it would ever happen in lakewook or brooklyn. (then again, as each day passes, i find myself growing more and more cynical)
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberI think that while their are definitely issues with co-ed activities, it is first-of-all turned into way more of an issue then it really is, and that instead of just saying assur, it needs to be addressed publicly to 7th and 8th graders. by the time you are in high school, it is already too late.
while co-ed activites are not inherently evil (i know plenty of guys/girls who are good friends and are shomer etc.), unless it is monitered, the risks are large. That being said, however, people going around snapping pictures of teens hanging out together are simply driving them into greater secrecy, thereby indirectly encouraging them to hang out at places which are less desirable.
To the average teenager, judaism is filled with so many restrictions, and the ability to question and discuss is so severely limited, that co-ed activities becomes not just a regular social gathering, but rather a form of rebellion (just like non-jewish music, movies, and playing pool). I am not sure how to solve it, but i definetly think it needs to be adressed in a manner different from the way it is being talked about at this time
what do you guys think (i’m a teenager by the way)
September 16, 2008 2:12 am at 2:12 am in reply to: Scene at OHare Airport in Chicago This Past Sunday Afternoon #622046TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberas far as i know there is no issur of holding one’s wife’s hand in public. if it is indeed assur, please provide me with proof and i will gladly retract this post
thank you for your consideration
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberI dont think that you are right …
Jo-Jo … don’t comment on the modern music page … people might take umbrage to your user name
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberWhile it may be true that Postsemgirl is brainwashed, but your initial premise (all postsem girls are brainwashed) is a fallacy.
Therefore, your statistical syllogism is a hasty generalization, and not necessarily the case
In addition, even if both your premises were correct, you would still face the problem of induction, but I’ll leave that for another time
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberso what would be the other possible issurim?
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberI heard that they are building a bungalow colony outside of lakewood, and the women come up for shabbos
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberalright … here’s how we did it in camp
For a 6 quart crock pot
In this order:
3 potatoes
1 1/2 onions
6 or 7 cloves of garlic
Beans, Barley (about a ratio of 2:3)
Meat (whatever you want … flanken tends to work the best)
Then:
Add spices (salt, pepper, paprika, chili)
Add ketchup/bbq sauce (Jack Daniels works well)
(Depending where you are, 1/2 bottle of beer)
After that, add water just to cover the top of the ingredients
leave on high for 3-4 hours (or for the entire time if you’re having it Friday night), and then turn to low
TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberthis is ridiculous.
enough with the rabbonim deciding that they are our da’as torah. enough with everybody telling us who our gedolim are. we have a right to follow our rabbonim in America, and not to have to continue to bow before the rabbonim of Israel. They are not our rabbonim … America is very different than Israel, but they don’t seem to realize that. Maybe it’s time that they did
