Habah l’hargecha hashkem l’hargo.
Laskern, the posuk clearly states you should kill him, not wait for someone else to do it.
And you will need a gun to kill a gunman, so it is not bitut torah to get a gun. And having a gun without learning to use it us clearly a lack of hishtadlus.

Hiring someone to protect you is another option, just like hiring a mohel or teacher for your kids, or hiring someone to learn torah on your behalf.

The Midrash Raba (65:20):

Does not say not to fight back. Says that prayer will determine if Eisav’s might will prevail.

RebYidd:

Your POV has merit, but like most things, there is a sliding scale.

If the other guy is an apikores, would you choose him over an incumbent who didn’t fulfill all his promises?

Also, you know well that humans are built in the image of the Almighty, but indeed there is but one G-d. Ergo, every human is imperfect and cannot be expected to fulfill all his promises, even if his intentions are good.

Chabadshlucha, your characterization of ascent and descent is clearly biased toward ascent (given that you specify descents are temporary with an eye toward ascent).
I plead ignorance on this; I am merely asking, not suggesting. Are you saying that everyone reaches the finish line, that every Jewish soul ultimately redeems itself? How about gentiles, who have souls and can gain access to Olam Haba?

Laskern i was not referring to you. You were the counter example. I was referring to the chareidi community in general.

And you are right that it was not complimentary. It was intended as constructive criticism of the yeshivish community.

Sorry that I was unclear. My intent was to use you as a positive example. I took your well-written answer as an opportunity to reinforce good conduct. I guess I didn’t do it very well.

AviT, your answer is bang on and well-articulated. Best answer thus far imho.

I disagree, though, that nobody understood the question. Some didn’t early on, but the author of the OP took responsiblity for the integrity of the thread and cleared it up.

In any case, your answer bears strict attention because it pulls together many concepts regarding our very nature and purpose. Kol hakavod!

P.s. thank you for using your first name and family name initial. I regret not choosing my full name in my username, which is Stuart Wachsberg. I don’t get the cowardice of this entire tzibur hiding behind pseudonyms.

Laskern, i was touting (complimenting) your English, as I was clear to say in my next post. I was using you as a good example.

I would never call out an individual on his language skills, especially in public.

As for being an English teacher, no, I just see no reason why a people choose to speak like immigrants in their own birthplace (though I understand why many in the Chasidishe community choose to, but it is annoying).

You called me our in public for something I didn’t even do (don’t worry, I don’t care).

Laskern, thank you for the referencial support.

As an aside, everyone please notice that Laskern wrote “with the Akeida” and not “by the Akeida”. It’s been 80 years since Kristallnacht, may Hashem have mercy on the souls of the kedoshim. Time we all learned to speak English. You can use Yiddish words but not grammar. It is hard to be a light upon the nations when you can’t talk to the nations properly.

P.S. “regarding” would be even better
P.P.S. sorry for the tangent but I don’t want to make an entire thread about this triviality

Why were rashaim created?. The same could be asked of tzadikim. Of anyone in fact. Hashem knows what will transpire, so He can skip the whole process of giving anyone life.

Without rejecting aforementioned responses, I would add that the experience of living a life is important to the soul. Though we know in advance with reasonable certainty that a child will enjoy an outing to an amusement park, we bring the child anyhow. Or, we know a criminal will suffer in prison, but we lock him up anyhow. In both of these examples it is the experience itself that makes the difference. (For the sake of my argument, I am excluding cases of protecting society.)

First, the answer is self-evident and virtually every respondent got it right.

Second, the only valid reason to ask an A vs B question is when there is a need to choose between the options, which does not apply here. The question is pointless.

Third, the causes of OTD are varied. To suggest that anyone who doesn’t do as you do or agree with your beliefs is mentally ill is pompous and shameful.

Sheine maidel:

When i was a boy of six i attended a chareidi yeshivish school. They had just purchased used benches for the beis medrash. I noticed that they had removed engravings of a tzelem from the benches. Even at that tender age, my intuition told me that it was wrong to have church benches in a beis medrash. So I asked my rebbe. Turns out my intuition had been wrong. It is in fact a mitzvah to uplift something from unholy to holy.
Here is a video of the kaliver rebbe singing a song purchased from a gentile shephard boy:

It is not like a Pride parade held in public. It is indoors. If you dont like, don’t attend. There is no sanhedrin today to force people to behave one way or another. Treat people with love and kindness and try to win people over.
For anyone who is anti Zionist: if it were up to you, the government would not be jewish. Would you ask the goyim to stop the competition? They would laugh at you. You cant have it both ways

I laughed when i read the OP because his kids are already listening to music composed by gentiles. Many tunes sung by the contemporary chareidi artists are ripoffs from mainstream pop and even rap.
Even in the old country much of the music played at chassisish and other weddings were ripoffs of Ukranian, Polish, Russian and Hungarian tunes. Go to a Ukranian wedding today and you will think you are listening to a frum orchestra.
