Gamanit – That actually does make sense. I’m gonna havta start an investigation on this. I’ll post the results when I’m done figuring everything out.
Shopping – Do us all a favor and go to sleep already…
streekgeekParticipantWhy don’t you finish it off for me. Maybe it will shut up half the voices and you’ll start getting places…
streekgeekParticipantDoesn’t it get confusing to be one way on the internet and a completely different way in real life? Don’t you ever get mixed up, like talk to someone in real life the way you speak online? How many sides do you have to yourself anyways?! People complex like you confuse me. I’ll take the popcorn with some wine at this point…
streekgeekParticipantAs shoshz said “I think for me just knowing that Dovid haMelech went through so much and left this for us to turn to when we are in trouble or just to feel inspired.”
I remember learning in 12th grade (we had a class and teacher for Tehillim, best class ever!) that Dovid, as the king, encompasses all of klal yisroel. Therefore, everyone relates to Tehillim regardless of what s/he is going through at that point as it was written through David. There is also an interesting medrash about David’s eyes were all different colors…can’t remember it or how it fit in to this though…anyone know what I’m talking about?
streekgeekParticipantThanks for the concern TAOM, a lot better B”H. No weird threads for me today…
streekgeekParticipantOh no….a long wait?? So do I get some popcorn to go with that?
“Turns out, I got to learn to be social.” No way!! I’ve never heard that one before. But thanks for the sarcasm warning. One thing to say about this topic though: If your communication skills in real life match the ones I see here, I must say you seem to have an easy time expressing yourself and you shouldn’t have an issue adapting to society.
streekgeekParticipantGamanit – LOL! Thanks… HURRY LET”S BRING OUT THE WINE FOR A L’CHAIM!! 8 MORE MINUTES!!
streekgeekParticipanttakahmamash – Thanks for pointing that out, but my brain doesn’t work with such small time increments. And anyways, I missed that one already, but at least we still have the PM hours… Asifa anyone?
streekgeekParticipant@SanityIsOverrated – You are? I’ll sit back and watch this happen. Not that I’m doubting the world wouldn’t be a better place with your outlook, but I’d like to see you take on that challenge.
streekgeekParticipantFirst of all, do it slow. It’s hard to give it up, been there done that. I found that before turning something on I would ask myself why am I watching this? If the answer was cuz I was bored I would turn of my computer (no physical TV in my house…) and do something more constructive. After I found myself only watching cuz I wanted to, and I actually had better things to do with my life I limited myself to only watch things I’ve watched previously. No new shows!!! And once I set myself to that, things just became easier and easier. One things I keep in mind now is something I heard from R’ Wallerstien. He says that if you struggle with something and don’t even try to work on it, in the not so distant future YOUR kids will wonder why THEY have such a hard time overcoming that particular nisayon. I remind myself all the time, do I want to be that selfish or do I want my kids to have an easier time than I did? Thinking back, since I’ve heard this speech I haven’t watched anything questionable since, and that was in August.
Whatever you do, good luck!!! It’s a long road but it makes such a difference in your quality of life.
streekgeekParticipantI’m so 🙂 that you’re :)!!!
Hope you remembered to bottle up some of it for a rainy day.
streekgeekParticipantLittle Froggie – For real? And here I was about to take out my Zohar to figure out what frogs really are. And as Shopping613 said, it’s not like we’re ever gonna meet so why the surreptitiousness?
TAOM – Thanks. I’m usually not like this, just when I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired I tend to say weird things. My friends love me for it…
streekgeekParticipantToday is also special cuz it’s 11/12/13. Hey maybe there’s an eis ratzon at 9:10!!!!! 3 more minutes….

streekgeekParticipantGAW – Aha! Thanks… You learn something new every day
streekgeekParticipantI like hearing other’s views on various things, so I post mine in case there is someone interested in hearing my ideas. I couldn’t care less if no one takes me seriously, that’s not why I post. I’m not here to change the world, and I don’t think anyone else is either.
streekgeekParticipantGAW – I feel bad asking, but what’s Mestama? I hear it so much but I still have no idea what it means. Excuse my ignorance.
And I agree about Yovel, I’m not giving my approval about this whole thing, just a source that I have come across for those interested.
JF02 – LOL 🙂
streekgeekParticipantAs quoted on Kupat Ha’ir’s website:
The whole calculation is there as well if you’re interested.
streekgeekParticipantGamanit – I know. I’m just a natural phenomenon, people can’t stop asking questions. I just find it so hard to forgive them sometimes…
Shopping: “Hashem is my Best friend, he is the only person I have left in to confide in, and that is why I hold on and keep fighting every day.”
You sound double your age…
November 11, 2013 8:31 pm at 8:31 pm in reply to: To the-art-of-moi: (Sorry if I spelled it wrong) #992571streekgeekParticipantokay okay….I wouldn’t know that you post then cuz I’m usually not around over Shabbos and Sunday. Just that after your whole goodbye and you were just gone for the weekend baffles me. I do that every week usually, but without the goodbye. But in any event, glad to have you back 🙂
streekgeekParticipantMods, I’m giving this thread one more try and then I’m done. Please see this revised edition:
WIY – when I first brought up this topic I included an extreme example I’ve heard from a teacher that (I thought) made no sense. (Which the mods deleted it, and rightfully so…) I know a woman dressing provocative can be harmful for a man, but some of things we are told not to do is not in any way provocative or demonstrative. So I was just wondering how different a man’s brain could be already and if it actually makes sense… But from the amount of posters that are saying it does – I guess I’ll never understand 🙁
streekgeekParticipantMeteorologists were sooo cool – they were totally neviim. And they got to play with those big white weather balloons… I used to dream of becoming a meteorologist. Oh well, maybe in my next life.
streekgeekParticipantThanks Gamanit. So to my lucky husband out there, you better stop eating chicken and potatoes cuz your gonna get sick of it soon. May as well also cut back on macaroni and scrambled eggs once you’re at it…
streekgeekParticipantAnd how exactly do I cook that?! I don’t know the first thing about cooking and I don’t have time or patience to learn or experiment. But it’s the least of my problems so I’m not worrying about it.
November 11, 2013 4:17 pm at 4:17 pm in reply to: To the-art-of-moi: (Sorry if I spelled it wrong) #992569streekgeekParticipantSo you don’t either post on Shabbos? Nice.
streekgeekParticipantSo I officially left this thread as this topic really hurts me, but one thing I want to stress that LeebaW pointed out is:
“There really isn’t much room for teens, especially girls, to act out for a bit and then come back and go on as if nothing has happened.”
I couldn’t agree with this statement more! While I acted out just a bit, and it was a while ago and I still get asked stupid senseless questions, and people have a hard time in general with deciding on how to talk to me. While many people welcomed me home with open arms, some are just too cautious. Isn’t the fact that I returned proof enough that I got over my doubts?? And isn’t there an idea that goes something like you’re not supposed to remind a baal/baalas tshuva of his/her past???? So why do I have to go through all this? now???? Sometimes, people are almost horrible enough to turn me off again 🙁
November 11, 2013 3:41 pm at 3:41 pm in reply to: To the-art-of-moi: (Sorry if I spelled it wrong) #992567streekgeekParticipantShopping – It’s not called gone if you’ve checked in while you were “gone”…. But glad you enjoyed 🙂
@OURtorah – great post 🙂
streekgeekParticipantExactly my point Redleg…Society (or dare I say, our teachers) trying to control us 🙁
streekgeekParticipantJust a bit, but in good ways. Not significantly though. But I wasn’t here for too long…maybe it will take some more time.
streekgeekParticipantIf my post if between 9-5 it’s cuz I’m bored at work. If it’s after hours or on weekends it’s cuz I’m bored and I have something to say.
streekgeekParticipantMy future husband better cook! There is no way I’m stepping in to a kitchen during shana rishona…I’m just gonna embarrass myself.
streekgeekParticipantWow! This is so interesting… Thanks 🙂
My question still stands though – why was it named after Antiochus of all people? And don’t tell me to look it up somewhere cuz I don’t learn gemara.
streekgeekParticipantI never ever quote anything cuz I’m not smart enough too, but one thing i do know: “Chanoch l’naar al pi darko”. Each child is different, and what’s beneficial for one could be a pitfall for another. No one can go out and make a blatant statement that says all high school girls should or should not have internet.
Torahmom – I’m so happy to hear that you have a wonderful daughter and I hope you find the proper place for her next year, and you should see only nachas from her!
batseven – glad you were able to survive until now without the shmutz, but you can’t say that this is the way to go with everyone just because YOU didn’t feel stifled. There are plenty that do.
streekgeekParticipantNot sad, just unfortunate. But at least we know you’re here and not somewhere else… we could kind of keep tabs on you so we’ll know when something’s wrong 😉 It’s sorta like when my friends know which nights I’m out on a date cuz I don’t respond to their texts all night…
streekgeekParticipantAgreed, who do you think I am….
streekgeekParticipantOK, I know you guys run differently, but how different could that be already?!?! We are told don’t do this cuz men think that, and don’t wear this cuz it makes men think about this… If you would hear what we women are told about you, you would probably be ashamed.
streekgeekParticipantVery funny WIY. I don’t, my Nexus is my go-to tablet….
streekgeekParticipantHey! Venus isn’t too far. And I love how men always take something that could have potentially been an insult and change it around completely. It has always impressed me.
streekgeekParticipantThe papers? What century are we living in again?
In all seriousness, the topic in this thread really irks me and I hope (can’t say believe here) that Ctrl Alt Del’s mindset has changed as what would be the point of living thinking the way s/he does?
And where did RedNails19 go? She seems like someone I would like to get to know here…
streekgeekParticipant@PBA – I know that men and women are wired differently, but to what extent? I’ve heard people say really odd things of why we shouldn’t dress in specific ways cuz of men’s thoughts, and things just don’t add up! Are men from a totally different species??
streekgeekParticipantBack to the OP – I too have always heard many people claim that men think differently then women. Do men really have different eyes then women? Or is it just another way that society tries to control women?
streekgeekParticipantYou got a ride in one of those? So cool! Maybe you should try to get a ride in the back seat of a white car with blue and red and white lights. I think they go a bit faster.
streekgeekParticipantWhat’s with this bumping TAOM? Are you really that bored? But I do second that Burnt Steak. Topics are getting boring…
streekgeekParticipantI have a really good one that happened to me but it will totally blow my identity as I’ve said it over on my 12th grade shabbaton. If I knew for a fact that none of my grade mates are here, I would gladly post it…Oh well!
streekgeekParticipant“You pay, we pray”
streekgeekParticipantLOL! Thanks for the pointers and warnings. But most of all, thanks for the laugh. I needed that at the end of a loooong raaaainy Thursday….
streekgeekParticipantWIY – Thanks for posting what I was too scared to post.
streekgeekParticipantMac and cheese? Eeeeewwwwww! I usually don’t get revolted by smells of food I don’t eat. But some I can’t handle, say green olives. However, I rarely get nauseous from seeing food. Thank God!!!! And I forgot to mention a biggie, I do eat homemade baked goods. So don’t think I’m a tiny underweight nothing, I’m actually very average.
streekgeekParticipantAre you talking about a specific person by any chance?
Also, if it was you that deleted my post about taking down another user’s post, just know it’s on YOUR conscience.
streekgeekParticipant@WIY – “I probably care about her more than you do.” I believe you. Keep doing what you’re doing.
@saysme – I don’t think I hear TAOM complain about WIY’s posts. On the contrary she seems to be grateful for his responses. -
