My wife would constantly nag me to fix this shortcoming or that bad midah, and I would never listen because she is only imaginary.
squeakParticipantThis taaveh for minyanim under the circumstances is similar to the yetzer harah to learn on tisha bav.
squeakParticipantYeah. Seriously.
squeakParticipantWolf – please do ask. I am wildly curious how oseh maaseh beraishis could possibly be appropriate. For one thing, the mechaber lists all the events that necessitate that bracha but excludes eclipses. For another, its impossible that an eclipse is part of maaseh beraishis since they were originally equals.
squeakParticipantAn eclipse, especially total, can vary a lot in appearance depending on your location. I don’t mean the close ups through a telescope, I mean the ones that include surroundijg sky or terrain. I can’t find any pictures online that truly resemble what I saw. I would not have minded taking a few pictures but I amn’t skilled enough to do so.
squeakParticipantIsn’t the molad when the moon reappears? As opposed to when the moon is at 0%, i.e. the lunar conjunction. The molad is indeed on Tuesday (jerusalem time) because on Monday there is no visible moon.
I plan to daven a very quick mincha/maariv once totality starts, and then put on tefillin and daven shacharis after totality ends. I’m not telling you where I will be because if we have a minyan the davening will be too slow.
March 21, 2017 7:51 pm at 7:51 pm in reply to: Split: Suggestions to Improve the New YWN Coffee Room #1241204squeakParticipantI have no suggestions to further improve the CR after this update. It is incredibly awesome. I’m talking about the ability to read posts in a user’s profile. Now I don’t have to look through threads for hidden gems – I can read them all consolidated for me in one place. Awesome!

squeakParticipantThanks joe and dy. I didn’t say the cr was 10 years old, i said that i was. But when you get to be my age, it all kind of mushes together
squeakParticipantThey should have insisted on being driven in a Tesla chutsh to avoid d’oraisahs
squeakParticipantsqueakParticipantSave the wb for my 10th anniv party. I forgot the date and showed up a few days early, but I dont see any prep
squeakParticipantUsually, practice banjo
squeakParticipantSJS hasn”t been seen in years and years… you’re just going to be disappointed.
July 28, 2016 5:15 pm at 5:15 pm in reply to: Why more people use disposable diapers than cloth #1160665squeakParticipantMazel tov! Another great great grandchild?
squeakParticipantThere is a time and a place for everything – for minute steak it’s never, and in the garbage.
squeakParticipantThe solution is too drastic. Needs to be softened, e.g. your first two children can be whoever they want, but every child born after the second needs to become a shadchan. Or needs to be a boy who will date starting at age 18. Or needs to be shipped off to a different continent. It’s not going to work as well to simply mandate no more than two children.
squeakParticipantJust because pharma companies make harmful versions of vaccines does not mean you should completely avoid vaccines! It’s your responsibility to make them yourself. In my circles it is commonplace to have a continuous-flow centrifuge right next to the microwave and coffee maker on the kitchen counter. With some simple mail order biochemical compounds and a little elbow grease, you can make and administer your own vaccines in the comfort of your own home. Grinding recombitant proteins is a fun family activity and a great way to make quality time together.
squeakParticipantThe minhag came about as yekke2 eloquently described. Sam2 doesn’t like it for obvious reasons, and shalom al yisroel.
squeakParticipantThe OP wants to be judged for his tzidkus, otherwise he would have posted the question for “a friend” the same way “a friend” is the one who wants to know whether pouring milk into the cholent ruined the pot and the stovetop in addition to the food.
squeakParticipantLF you mangled my message badly. He definitely has torah while on the ground and also knows the halacha while in the air.
squeakParticipantHillary is a hands on murderer. Whether its actively bumping off whitewater threats or taxi drivers in NY, or through negligence by ignoring impending terror threats, she has more layers of blood than skin on her hands.
Hillary is a liar. She says whatever works in the moment, whether its defending her husband or pretending snipers attacked her. Today she says Israel is her priority, tomorrow she’s kissing Arab terrorists.
Hillary is as corrupt and as buyable as they come, whether its selling pardons for votes or taking absurb fees for speaking from wall street companies. There is nothing she w9nt do for the right price.
If anyone is a potential mussolini, its her. Imagine if Hitler came to power while whe was president. Do you think she would oppose him or befriend him? Only blindness or expeftation of personal gain could bring you to vote for her.
squeakParticipantTorah lo bashamayim he. You all are like that guy who watched a rav eating on a plane without washing or making brochos
squeakParticipantSyag that’s very sweet, but my home nurse took away the bottle before I could get quite that far :]
squeakParticipantBut you would give y9ur vote to Hillary. Which further proves that the two adjectives are not mutually exclusive.
squeakParticipantYoure right. This is quite ridiculous.
squeakParticipantI don’t get the complaint. Why should there be ‘drinking on purim’ ads?
squeakParticipantCan you imagine if thems was allowed to drink alcohol?
squeakParticipantPopa – its precisely because you never send me shlachmunos that I know we’re good friends. If I got a package from you then I’d wonder what you’re trying to prove.
squeakParticipantI’m very sad about that
squeakParticipantIt’s easier to pout when you’re uptight.
squeakParticipantIt is not advisable to shuckle at maariv tonight. A calm disposition helps keep the shuls carpets clean.
squeakParticipantI’m hungry too but I know its just my yetzer hara trying to prevent me from having room in my stomach for more drink. Baruch hashem I am strong enough to defeat him this time.
March 25, 2016 12:21 am at 12:21 am in reply to: Divorce is Worse than a Difficult Marriage #1143276squeakParticipant“Unfortunately today there’s a rash of divorces and in most cases it’s Jewish women”
Call me the berditchiver but I say baruch hashem that in most cases the jewish men are divorcing jewish women and not divorcing shiksas!
squeakParticipantIt took you 4 weeks to learn about how oil prices are determined and come up with that lousy counter argument? And all that knowledge that descended upon you was worth sharing with us on Purim? I’ve lost my train of thought.
squeakParticipantShalom bayis is not that important. More important is not to get divorced.
squeakParticipantThe fact that Haman gave this advice is proof that it is not the torah way for wives to respect their husbands. Anyone who says they should is like haman and should not be elected
squeakParticipantFeet don’t matter as much. Need steady hands to pour.
squeakParticipantShalom aleichem rebbi she’aino moiri
squeakParticipantI am not fond of wine. This is far worse, since I am openly stating a dislike for the object of not just the cups of wine during the seder but also kiddush wine all throughout the entire year. You will surely think I am a very wicked person indeed, but alas I cannot help it.
The squeak
squeakParticipantAd masai… anyone who has nothing to contribute other than to call Trump a future Hitler is not willing to have a rational discussion and I won’t anymore bother to express disagreement.
Mdd – absolutely a huuuuuge difference in temperment. And style. But is Obama any less aggressive about his agendas? I won’t give you that. So what? This makes them…. two different people.
March 18, 2016 8:35 pm at 8:35 pm in reply to: Invited to the Wedding Feast, not the Ceremony-would you be offended? #1143030squeakParticipant“That’s the Yekkah in me. If you’re not 20 minutes early you’re late.”
squeakParticipantDY – to turn USA into a dictatorship? Yes you do need to be quite the political genius. Our government has checks and balances of power, if you’ll recall from your elementary school gemara classes.
Look, our current president, shem reshaim yirkav, definitely leans towards dictatorship but even he hasnt been totally successful. Look at how he bulldozed congress into approving the medical plan law that no one understood at the time. Look at what he’s saying now to get his nominee appointed, no matter what anyone else thinks. Poll numbers and approval ratings are a laughing matter to him. Yet we are still a democracy.
Could Trump even possibly assume dictatorship, if that is his goal, where Obama has failed? Not a chance – in this country you cannot do much of anything without broad agreement.
If you want to use dictionary dot com definitions of random words to obviate a point that’s fine but it doesnt mean Trump could do anything even remotely dictatorlike in the white house. I don’t underestimate him but neither do I overestimate him.
squeakParticipantEt tu? Seriously, when you apply the label of dictator to Trump, or from the melodramtic folks the comparisons to Hitler or Mussolini, it simply makes no sense. You guys are confusing Trump for some kind of political genius.
squeakParticipantAll the name calling in the world won’t help your cause.
As American politicians sink lower and lower, people keep saying how frustrated they are, and how disgusted they are, and how disconnected they feel. People want change. That was even a campaign slogan once.
Here you have someone who stands up and says I can do better. He is transparent, he is different, he is famous, he is interesting, he is exciting. People want that more than they want another bland corporate puppet chanting tired and empty slogans.
I believe Trump will be interesting. I do not believe for one second that he will discriminate against Muslims or against Hispanics. I do not believe that he will build a wall with Mexico, but even if he does I don’t believe he will ever even suggest declaring war on Mexico to pay for it. That is just an absurd fabrication by the media to manipulate the weak minded.
If nothing else, as I’ve said before, I prefer Trump to any of the politicians simply because at this point it clear that anyone who is capable of getting himself elected president has no business being president.
squeakParticipantNo, I won’t be volunteerin for the army. Why do you ask? And why do you think there is going to be a war against Mexico? It doesn’t sound very plausible to me.
squeakParticipantCharlie – you are raving. I don’t know if you actually believe what you say about Trump or if you are just so in love with your candidates that you are willing to spew whatever drivel you think helps discredit their opponents.
Remember, Farrakhan supported Obama openly… called him the messiah. Lots of super shady characters endorse and fawn over your favorite characters, and I don’t think it bothers you a bit there.
March 13, 2016 5:08 pm at 5:08 pm in reply to: Out Of The Mailbag: (Flatbush Kiddush: Tznius & Drinking Out Of Control) #1142573squeakParticipantAgree with DY, we are going in the direction that was predicted. We are quickly finding ourselves needing to write off more and more people in order to preserve kedusha. We are becoming more and more fractured and extremist across the spectrum. I do not think we are doing OK.
March 11, 2016 3:03 am at 3:03 am in reply to: If Trump becomes president, I'm moving to Canada… #1190578squeakParticipantA bit of independent thought would be a way to add to the conversation.
March 11, 2016 2:15 am at 2:15 am in reply to: If Trump becomes president, I'm moving to Canada… #1190575squeakParticipantHillary – expands Obamacare and medicaid, giving free health insurance to anyone and everyone. Introduces mandatory paid extended leave for employees at all companies, causing small business to tear at the seams. Increases minimum wage to $20/hour, grants automatic amnesty and full entitlements to all immigrants documented or otherwise. Refuses to take any action against rabid and armed middle eastern countries or take the North Korean threat seriously, leading to South Korea being annexed and turned communist. Pushes Israel into giving back yet more land and restores the 1948 borders. Donates 85% of the US military budget to Doctors Without Borders. Bursts our eardrums every time she wants to add emphasis during an address.
Now you guys do Trump. The worst I can think of is that he;d put bobble-heads of himself in every room in the White House.
