LU- I agree with your statement that a recovered addict is never out of danger, and the temptation is always there. But as far as
” The vast majority of baalei teshuva do not stop being Frum and do not face the temptation to do so.”
How do you know that? Even if you know the inside story of a few – or even many – baalei teshuva, I don’t think a statement like that can be made as fact.
SpunkMemberHaha

SpunkMember“I have spent a lot of time responding to your post and then explaining and reexplaining. I hope everyone understands now, and I can stop explaining and reexplaining :).”
You have my gracious permission to stop explaining and re-explaining.
SpunkMemberRefuah shleimah to Mrs. CTL.
SpunkMemberLU- Instead of speculating what Torah4me wants, please let Torah4Me speak for him/herself. If you are interested in hearing what other parents have to say, ask for yourself.
SpunkMemberThanks zahavasdad, iacisrmma and Abba_S.
SpunkMemberTorah4Me, thanks for clarifying.
It seems from other posters that your daughter’s questions are normal for a child (assuming she is still a child?). As far as worrying about OCD or some other anxiety disorder, I would suggest seeing if worrying comes into play in other areas of your life. That would give you more perspective on whether this is an isolated area that you get very concerned about or if it is more widespread.
SpunkMemberDoes anyone know if Southern Comfort is kosher?

SpunkMemberWhat do Jewish men and women do in Gan Eden?
They enjoy the closeness to Hashem that is the reward for building a relationship with Him throughout their years in this world (through fulfilling the mitzvos of the Torah in the way that applies to them). To me, the details of what that means is irrelevant. We’ll find out either way when we get there after 120 years.
SpunkMemberThinking out loud-
Have you been able to get any financial assistance?
I was thinking about this and wondering if any crowdfunding websites would be of help.
Unfortunately I am not in a position to do so now but personally I would jump to help financially if I won the lottery or came into some other large sum of money somehow…
Wishing you hatzlacha and siyata dishmaya.
SpunkMemberI watched a total lunar eclipse in NYC on succos last year. It was magnificent and awe-inspiring. (I believe a lunar eclipse occurs when the earth’s shadow covers the moon.)
did anyone else see it?
SpunkMemberAbba- do you really?
“I look forward to your response”.

November 8, 2016 4:45 pm at 4:45 pm in reply to: Pareve versions of dairy foods are not worth the calories. #1191054SpunkMemberJust as an interesting note I have had roommates for a few years in the past and the only prospective roommate who took issue with my DE (non cholov yisroel) toaster oven was Chabad. Anyone else who was looking to join the apartment(I recall one from Sfardi background and one who was Ashkenaz- from Eastern European background) had no problem with using the toaster that had also been used with non- cholov yisrael foods.
SpunkMemberI may be wrong, but it seems to me Torah4Me is referring to him/herself, not daughter… i.e. is this experience of worrying about said child’s questions common to other posters or is it possibly a manifestation of a more worrisome pattern in Torah4Me’s brain?
Torah4Me, please clarify.
SpunkMemberGood for you! May this year bring you and all of us peace of mind and clarity.

SpunkMemberWIY that’s a great idea! I’ll pass it on in your name.
SpunkMemberhehehe sure!
SpunkMemberHey WIY do you listen to classical music?
SpunkMemberJust checked out Here I am Lord on youtube. That’s really powerful stuff. Thanks rebdoniel for the recommendation.
SpunkMemberMy understanding is that if one has a very strong urge to do something (I assume harmful)and cannot resist, that would be called an addiction. If one endulges, say, in drinking a cup or 2 of wine on Shabbos, and does NOT feel he /she NEEDS to drink, or NEEDS “just” one more drink, or NEEDS to drink during the week whenever the urge strikes, that wouldn’t be an addiction.
An urge is just that- a ta’ava. If one feels it is close to impossible to overcome the impulse, maybe it’s time to speak to someone wise and objective (mentor etc)
SpunkMemberShalom to y’all
SpunkMemberJamaican Ginger ale. It’s spicy
SpunkMemberWhy, thank you.
SpunkMemberJust a tidbit of info for those who misunderstood. I agree with you 100%
SpunkMemberPeople make therapy sound like the big bad wolf. Contrary to popular belief, the purpose of doing psychotherapy is not about making you feel good about yourself, bash your parents, or encourage you to do whatever you want. It’s about helping one grow as a person (whether spiritually or emotionally). Kind of like a paid mentor. Most of the ppl I know who are in therapy (and I know MANY!!) are full of self-honesty, desire to get close to Hashem, and courage to change the dark side of themselves.

SpunkMemberBTW the song You Raise Me Up is not a Josh Groban original. It was composed by a band called the Secret Garden. Groban just popularized it.
