That sounds like a good idea to add- at least in Europe. The only thing is that kosher meat is already expensive enough as it is…

I was in the middle of crossing the street at a major intersectino, so I had to scream loud enough so that the taxi driver would go away (like he did) and I was not going to run in the opposite direction because I could have died.

If I would have considered that traumatizing, then I would not be here today because I have had plenty of worse moments in my life than that. Even now I am going through a rough time, and I am having major insomniac issues because of that.

If I considered that scary, then I would not be here.

I honestly can’t even remember how I found out about this scandal online, but it is quite intriguing, and I feel bad for everyone who is affected.

It is not worth it if it pushes away yidden from yiddishkeit. Even if they had a courtroom with a chuppa in it, at least some sort of halachic requirement would be met…

Ramat Eshkol? Its the new trendy, and hip area to live for young chareidi families whose husbands are learning.

I could always send my daughters to schools in ramat beit shemesh…

I would like to have filtered internet in my home. I just got rid of my facebook accounts as a step towards that reality.

Even my interactive metronome therapy was used to treat another learning difference that I had and it got my adhd down to the point where medication could actually help once I was old enough to start taking it.

But of course, after their sports lesson was lunch time, followed by mincha.

“Rabbi,” the boys addressed him, “I am pretty sure that there is halacha about not being able to daven without wearing shoes. That means that we cannot make a bracha on our food, and neither can we daven mincha, or even learn Torah, please, at least allow us to wear our shoes when we are doing all the above. If you really got credible smicha, you would never give us that type of spell. You can go to gehenom for that.”

Rabbi Corn responded, “That is a very good point. However, for me to take off the spell would mean all of us going to gehenom… so I would rather not.”

Just wait until you get to Israel. I have been in situations walking around bayit vegan on shabbos and arabs would try to lure me in their taxis. Thank G-d for keeping shabbos!

But I could theoretically live in an anglo area of Yerushaliyim, such as Ramat Eshkol, Har Nof, or Givat Hamivtar, and I would be able to send my kids to a more chilled type of bais yaakov/ yeshiva. I have plenty of strikes against me when it comes to shidduch dating, and getting my future children G-d willing into schools anyway, so I am not so worried.

in reply to: "The Kavona of the Haters of Israel…" #930341

like in chareidi yeshivos, I want to marry a learner and live in E”Y (I am not shidduch dating yet…).

in reply to: "The Kavona of the Haters of Israel…" #930339

    But I mean, what if they were not exactly doing it for the typical reason? The biggest reason that I am doing sherut leumi next year, is because I was in seminary and I need the following things next year;

    1. A re-do of this year.

    2. I don’t know what I want to do for a parnossah (the career of the day is medical billing, but that is likely to change…), and I need to get job experience and have something to put on my resume while thinking about what I will do for a parnossah.

    3. I wanted to do a shana bet progam, but I need to have the ability to have my bills paid somehow, so I plan on taking night classes, hopefully in a bais yaakov seminary, but I have to wait another month until getting info on that.

And people are saying I can’t get a litvishe shidduch for those reasons?

    in reply to: Chedvas #1142075

I am planning for shalom bayis reasons to make aliyah in october- or something like that. Like after the chagim. In the meantime, I got my mothers blessing to do night classes for shana bet in order to be able to get my oorah scholarship, so I am most likely going to camp again this summer on discover u…

    in reply to: Kiruv #929632

I like that idea as well.

    in reply to: Chedvas #1142073

    Bump

I know that there is a girl there this year who takes college classes at michlala during the day,and classes at chedvas at night. How often does that occur, because I am most likely going to get a job as a bat sherut because that is the only way at this time to support myself financially for next year while still figuring out what I want to do with my life (due to a really tough year, I have not really had time to think much about that this year), and I want to be able to take night classes because I am only going to get seven creditsish from this year, and I cannot afford to enroll in a university in Israel while being a bat sherut without making aliyah due to messing up my aliyah benefits in case I do…

    Basically, its just complicated.

in reply to: "The Kavona of the Haters of Israel…" #930337

Also, as I asked earlier, how come people are not able to get litvishe shidduchim if they do national service? I don’t understand that, not everyone is cut out for seminary…

in reply to: Help With ADHD Child – Anyone Have Any Info To Help? #929731

Interactive metronome therapy sounds expensive- I did it for a research study when I was younger, and it worked really well for me because I went to a bunch of basketball camps as a supplement to the therapy. Maybe he just needs to play some sports in his spare time. Also, WII fit could be good as well (unless you are concerned about having a working tv in your house, even if not for cable).

in reply to: Help With ADHD Child – Anyone Have Any Info To Help? #929709

I feel that- at least for me, it can be tricky to medicate someone for adhd, and since most likely, the first medication that the doctor will prescribe won’t work, I think they should start medicating him now, especially because he needs to be successful in high school, and even now. If he is not able to concentrate in class now, then he will have a LOT of academic difficulties.

Think about it, the kid who can’t pay attention in class when he is most likely starting to learn how to learn a daf of gemara won’t have so much more of an easier time later on. Then he won’t be able to get in the best yeshivos possible in order to allow him to reach his potential, simply because his parents chose not to medicate him and he therefore did not learn as much as he would have been able to learn other wise.

I know that there is a stigma, but this poor child is struggling due to something that could easily be treated for with medication and a 504 plan, but before a school would want to implement a 504 plan, he needs to start taking medication!

At the same time, there are many advantages to blackberrys, although I know that they are not doing so well in the stock market, which MAY mean that they will go out of business. On the other hand, if you are a teenager, you might want a newer trendier device. BUT, you should also keep in mind that galaxy is humongous, so it will be annoying to schlep if you are accustomed to smaller purses.

I am also having a hard time as well. I don’t want to go into detail here for fear of being identified, but I am facing a multiple year- long scandal, which is one of the reasons that I am planning on making aliyah as soon as I can, because I just can’t deal with this for the rest of my life. Don’t worry, you are not alone. Maybe try relaxation therapy.

in reply to: Blackberry? Iphone? Galaxy? …Opinions plz! #929614

I had a blackberry, it was really good, but since I had an outdated model, the scrolling part stopped working at one point and then I had to get rid of it. Luckily, the newer blackberrys have a touch scroll thing which would prevent that problem.

Iphones in my opinion are to fragile to own unless you are extremely wealthy.

My mom has a galaxy and loves it.

If your a teenager, I would go with the blackberry, and if your older I would go with the galaxy because the galaxy is really big.

in reply to: Purim Costumes #929337

I understand that it is boring, but the price was right… I have not bought myself an actual costume in years. When I was at home, I had this dress that I bought before I became religious that I would wear a shell and a longer skirt underneath and get a “wand” and pretend I was a fairy, because the dress was one of those types of dresses that was nice, but also good for shtick. I didn’t bring it to Israel with me because I didn’t have room in my suitcase for it. And I am tired of dressing up as the same thing every year anyway. But I don’t just want to spend a ton of money on something I would only wear one day. Especially because I am the only girl in my home in the states (other than my mom).

in reply to: A Summer Safety Reminder (again!) #1021974

I hear that. That is why it is important to be hydrated. I personally like to freeze half a bottle of water in the freezer every night so that I can fill it half way in the morning (I reuse the bottles) and then I have ice cold water for like five hours after I filled it up that morning. That way, I feel really refreshed and it is not as much of a temperature shock if I go swimming.

THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS THREAD. I believe that we already have enough threads about this.

And This one below as well…

in reply to: "The Kavona of the Haters of Israel…" #930308

As someone who was not raised religious, I grew up thinking that chareidim were pigs because they took everyone’s tax shkalim but didn’t serve. If we look at the thread that I posted about me doing sherut leumi, even that had a ton of controversy, and I am a woman, who is in seminary.

Yet, I also did not know when I was a pisher that religious women did sherut leumi. That is a fact that falls under the category of the “untold” in the secular world. Hence, they all hate us because they feel that none of us serve, and they even ignore the fact that dati leumi men do serve in the army- they abstain from the same 39 melachos as we do.

However, the other part that is being ignored, is that I have had some teachers at “seminary A” whose husbands did some form of sherut leumi and today are chareidi rabbis. That is also not told to anyone- including most chareidim.

Obviously, everyone would only know this information if we grew up in a world like pleasantville and never had anything to worry about because we all knew everythoing that we are supposed to know.

I hope that this bit of information clears some stuff up.

A pig has split hooves, but has a unique digestive system that allows it to chew some of its cud, and then regurgitate it a bit and chew it some more, therefore, it is not a kosher animal PERIOD.I am pretty sure that everyone here should know that by now.

in reply to: The Freezer #929837

I have heard of the freezer concept before, but for those of us who don’t know, what is the freezer rules? Just no shidduch dating? Or some other rules as well.

I am not referring to that type of situation, my mom is like that as well. I am just saying that we should not assume that just because the crime rate is so high among a specific ethnicity, does not mean that we should assume that everyone is bad.
