    Thank you for clarifying.

I only drink iced coffee, and usually when I have it, I am out and nowhere near my stressors, so I am perfectly fine when I drink it. Since I am in seminary, I do not think I would be able to start acupuncture here. I find it difficult to lay down during the day, but I can try that when I go to bed tonight.

You could probably do that for certain classes to demonstrate certain points, like have a typical chumash class and then when learning about sefer shmuel, for the test, the girls would have to build their own replica of the ark that held the ten commandments in it and then be assessed on what parts are there/ missing.

When I am in pain- its an 8. It is located on my stomach. It hurts most of the time, usually when I am near my stressors (in my case that is school, madrichot, program director, certain other girls). Sometimes, the pain goes to my thighs an shoulders. I took up until sunday aleve, and then the doctor told me to take tylenol instead, so I started using that, used it 4 times since I got it on sunday. Stress makes it way worse. It feel better when I am not in my seminary building with my program. I do not drink alcohol. No nausea. Both Diarrhea and constipation. Blood in my stools. Indigestion, yes. Occasional gas. My stomach is bloated. The doctor pushed on four areas of my abdomen and my stomach hurt the most. The medication helps somewhat, as long as I am not near my stressors.

I am going to the doctor again tomorrow. I have already missed more than two weeks of school because of this- which is not normal. Plus my madrichot keep on thinking I need to calm down (and they think that working out will do that) when I really need to relax (which aerobics don’t help me do).

By the way, I did try to stand up for myself to the director of my program, but she claims that she never did anything that I know she did, and invalidated how I felt completely and said that she feels that I am not capable of doing things I am used to doing on my own without assistance.

I think they are one of those “status symbols” that frum girls like to have that indicate that they have been to E”Y. I think they are completely harmless, if you are wearing it at home- even in public, there is nothing wrong with it. I mean, I would not go into a Bais yaakov wearing one, but when you go to malcha, or are in other places, I don’t see the harm in it. How are they not tznius? Mine is pretty baggy to say the least, I feel like a gangsta sometimes in it, at other times, it reminds me that I have the ability to be in control…

    in reply to: Gastritis #925216

I am only getting up so late because of my stomach pain! I don’t like getting up that late on school days.

    same.

let me put it like this: lets say a 19 year old kallah marries an Israeli, and they want to make aliyah so they can move to bnei brak and learn in Ponevetch, they can’t because he will have to serve in the army, which isn’t such a good idea, especially if the wife ends up getting pregnant a month after getting married.

    in reply to: Gastritis #925213

Those all sound like great ideas. In terms of people yelling at me, I am (not to brag or anything) a good girl, who was put in a very unique situation with many nisyonos that are very stressful for me. My life is amazing, but its weird to go from, in five years, knowing absolutely nobody and having no friends, to being considered “popular” (whatever that is supposed to mean) and always bumping into someone I know whenever I go out (which sometimes leads to trouble… but I don’t do anything so wrong). Also, since I am in Israel, the copays would be different.

Yankdownunder: I am 19 years old and in seminary, since I plan on making aliyah, I won’t have my mom here to prepare food for me for a while.

Justhavingfun: The program I am in requires me to speak to a therapist because everyone here does. I would like to start doing yoga to improve my flexibility, but I need a place to do it. Up until now, I have been able to go out wherever, whenever, to take long walks that would calm me down- now I can’t really do that so often.

I currently in Israel so I am not sure I can pay for shipping.

in reply to: Jewifying someone's iPod #920987

    Ok, I got it.

    isn’t OS/2 for MacBooks?

Haifagirl: Thank you for letting me know, I do take my medication faithfully every day, sometimes it is hard for me to wake up because that is one of my biggest symptoms of my ADHD (its not such a common symptom so most places won’t tell you that it is a symptom), so I sometimes wake up later in the morning than other people would (like 11 am).

Daas Yochid: Thank you! I really appreciate it!.

Derech Hamelech: I figured that it is stress related. I know what the root causes of the stress issues are, but I think I need the doctor to actually tell me that I have that so I can explain to the people who do not realize that they are causing it by constantly yelling at me why they need to leave me alone a bit more often and let me do my own thing (when people tell me what to do- it tends to stress me out, also having to confront pet peeves 24/7 also stresses me out).

    what does ehrlich mean?

in reply to: Jewifying someone's iPod #920978

The people that work for davka recommended that I use it instead of purchasing mellel, the word processor for mac because of some reason (I forgot what they said…).

    Bump

in reply to: Jewifying someone's iPod #920971

But also, isn’t there a way for software companies to track down how many computers something is installed on (such as through registering your software), also what about purchasing software such as crossover, so that you can have pc applications work on your macbook (I have that application, so that I can use davkawriter on my macbook), is that ok? Or should I go out and buy a second pc laptop so that my davka writer can work on that?

in reply to: Jewifying someone's iPod #920956

got it, i mean, I already have microsoft word… but I will keep that in mind if I need to get a new computer. Speaking of new computers, my current computer (macbook) has dead pixels that appear- disappear- and then reappear again, what am I supposed to do about it?

in reply to: Jewifying someone's iPod #920954

Microsoft office is used in most work places and most people have it installed around the world, so clearly one should get that.

in reply to: NYC School-Bus Strike – Time To Get Rid Of Union Thugs! #921248

    I agree.

in reply to: Jewifying someone's iPod #920945

What if, for example, you ordered yourself microsoft office, and your computer crashes, and you have to reinstall it? Is that assur? That is also like software copying, or better yet, you install microsoft office on multiple computers in your house, using one cd instead of spending hundreds of dollars on as many packages as you have computers and laptops in your house.

*Than I am making it sound.

** I am completely mainstream, its just that since I have some minor learning issues and a weaker limudei kodesh background, that makes it harder for me to focus on so many limudei kodesh classes and have a job for more than a few hours a week on school days at the same time. Plus, even though people do not consider me to be hyper, I have major adhd issues and the hyperactivity is the more discrete type, but still hyper nevertheless. Its a good thing that I just bought a watch that looks like it is analog that is slightly different so I don’t have to be frustrated trying to determine exactly what minute it is (because I don’t have the patience for most analog watches)…

I agree. This situation is ridiculous. By the way, this is a more extreme situation of a similar story I know of includung a Jew… But I won’t post it here

in reply to: Jewifying someone's iPod #920930

    K

Once I have officially made Aliyah it will be different, in terms of working since I have some learning differences it is harder for me to keep up with full day limudei kodesh and at the same time work when I am not on break. My situation is more complicated than I k making it sound.

That has been made clear by other posts on this thread.

That is a good point however, I personally have workaholic tendencies, so it is a different story… I can’t spend so much time working that I don’t have a life. I don’t mind working during breaks

Yeshiva seminary guide, should I contact you so that we can talk about this?

in reply to: What's wrong with the draft? #923896

A Jew is a Jew, a yid is a yid. Saying that secular people are our guests in Israel is just wrong and I can’t believe that the moderators approved that comment.

in reply to: Parnassah Expo: Who is it for? #919924

Even if you are seeking a job, networking is critical for your job search, although my mom isn’t religious, she has gone to similar events and trust me, as sfind sn omeone whose mother needs to find a new job every few years, these networking events are also critical for her to go to.

For those of us who aren’t familiar with lashon hakodesh could you please translate the Hebrew…

Sounds awesome! I will most likely go to girlzone for a bit but after that I might be able to come back to Israel and work then…

    In order of price range:

Crocs makes flats for women that are made from crocs material (don’t know about men… but most likely…).

Clarks are very good for that purpose.

Cole Haan has nike soles, but look fancy.

in reply to: A Modern Orthodox Critique of Uri L'Tzedek #921183

I understand that about brovenders, i am actually mixing two programs, I don’t take gemara classes, so when I am in my halacha classes looking at mashechtas, I don’t understand anything, which is ok, because I feel that after this year, I probably won’t be looking at aramaic again.

The community I am from is very black hat, even the modern orthodox schools are taught by black hat teachers, so it is more natural for me to lean towards bais yaakov, even in such a modern environment. Just because I am in a modern orthodox seminary does not mean that I am modern orthodox. Ask any of my friends, they will tell you that I am a black hatter.

in reply to: I just bought meat #920644

i think that is cheap even in the treif world (at least the rib steak)

in reply to: A Modern Orthodox Critique of Uri L'Tzedek #921180

Thank you for raising some valid points. However, I do not feel that this has anything to do with being modern orthodox verses bais yaakov (I am currently at brovenders after having some issues at a more bais yaakov seminary, but I would love to jump back into a bais yaakov school next year such as pninim…). The point here should be that we should not support organizations that are against Israel. Condemning people with various hashkafos is not appropriate. It doesn’t matter if you are condemning people with your hashkafa, or other hashkafos. This post appears to be condemning all frum yidden. This is nothing against you.

I have a friend who is in seminary now in E”Y who is very good at doing make up, hair and stuff like that and she doesn’t charge a lot. She used me as her model for her website, she used a more professional like hair curler, where there isn’t that clipping part of the curler.

    Mods, what do you think?

in reply to: English Translations of Seforim #919046

generally with translations, I go with Artscroll and Judaica press because that is what my teachers last year recommended I use when I didn’t understand anything in any of my classes (I went to one of the local bais yaakovs in the community where I grew up just for 12th grade and do not have such a strong background).

Also, Yitzchok, do you have any contact information for NCSY alumni and Ben Zakkai? Contact information for any funds people have in mind for me to contact would be much appreciated.

in reply to: English Translations of Seforim #919043

There is a “Guide to Lashon HaKodesh” I should probably study it so that I can learn how to use Hebrew seforim without continuing to spend a fortune on English translations (I keep on purchasing both Hebrew and English versions of seforim for school… I am in seminary and have about 20-30 seforim and could theoretically purchase more… If anyone is in Jerusalem and needs to purchase a Hebrew version of Messilas Yesharim, let me know never been used 16 shekel…
