You must investigate. It is not a question. Do the right thing. If someone is being hurt you can make a difference.
smile4lifeParticipantThe Rambam writes that it only occurs in Eretz Yisroel. Not sure about Miriam.
smile4lifeParticipantGetzel – I can’t believe you’d even consider comparing mizrachi to reform. I have never met any frum person who believes that yom haatzmaut is more holy than yom kippur (and I probably know many more mizrachi Jews than you do). Granted, yom hazikaron was established by the secular zionists, but there’s a problem if that fact impedes you from giving even minimal respect to the day considering that the large majority of Israel recognizes it as a memorial day for the fallen soldiers and terror victims. How could you possibly not take a moment to respect and remember those who gave their lives for Eretz Yisrael and those who died al kiddush Hashem?
smile4lifeParticipantPixelate –
Like I said, believing in these things does not reinforce my belief in G-d and it does not say anything about emunah. According to your logic believing in anything supernatural is showing a lack of emunah.
Also, there’s obviously no way to judge or explain people’s supernatural experiences. Like Davidsamuel14 said, who knows who they really saw. Also, Hashem could make people see anything, and maybe that’s what they needed to see. We have no idea what goes on in the other world and based on what people claim they saw, it is so unfathomable for our minds to grasp that it’s not worth trying to understand.
smile4lifeParticipantOut of body experiences are real things just like anything else and I’m not sure what it has to do with a lack of emunah. People that experience these things know that it’s real and to argue about it is like arguing about whether or not people exist. I’m not suggesting that if you don’t believe in this stuff that you’re a kofer or anything or that I wouldn’t believe in Hashem unless this stuff happened, but it just happens to be a fact of life like anything else.
smile4lifeParticipantI am very interested in these types of experiences, and regardless of the cynical comments people are making, this happens to be a real thing. People have all sorts of out of body experiences (OBE’s) and they are usually real. A person can even induce himself to have such an experience while he’s awake with enough practice, and some people have a disposition for these things that they don’t need much practice at all. There is a lot of information about this stuff online and it may be worth your while to read about it.
smile4lifeParticipantIn the words of my Bubbby “the Nazis took that world from us”. Instead, we have to understand what our job is now and how we can be ehrlich yiddin.
smile4lifeParticipantIf your depression is chronic then you need to see a psychiatrist and take the medication you need. If your depression is only a result of your current lifestyle then you should still see a therapist (a good psychologist can tell you if you need medication or not) but realize that it is in your hands to change it. Internet addicts anonymous may be helpful to you as group therapy is very powerful. As difficult as it may sound, the first step needs to be you getting up. Once you make an honest effort to change, everything else will be much easier. My suggestion of getting a job still stands, even if it means cleaning floors at a pizza restaurant.
smile4lifeParticipantI think it’s because they’re pointing at the Torah when they say the pasuk of “And this is the Torah…”. But it’s considered disrespectful to point at a Torah with your index finger so they use the pinky instead. However, I am not aware of any source that brings the custom of pointing during Hagba and I have seen many talmidei chachamim who never do this.
smile4lifeParticipantIf you have a PhD in Math then I do not see how you can’t get a job at least teaching in high school. You must be a very smart man so the job market is certainly open to you if you look. But there are two plausible reasons you are in this predicament in life: either you are lazy or you had/have serious life challenges that are preventing you from moving forward. If it is the first, do the correct thing for yourself and just get a job. Any job. Move around, talk to friends, and make money. You will see improvement in just one day. If it is the latter, then you need to learn how to cope healthily. See a therapist, talk to a trusted friend, and confront your problems head on. And even if it is the latter, doing nothing is not going to help.
smile4lifeParticipantYour existence is very purposeful – but you are wasting it. Get up, get a real job or go to school, and start making a difference. Don’t look for people to caress you and tell you not to feel bad about doing nothing all day. Trust me, you’re better than that.
smile4lifeParticipanta 12 step program is usually for people who hit rock bottom. That is unlikely the case considering that it has only been 2 years. It is also unlikely that it has escalated into a full fledged addiction. First step is to get webchaver. They have a filter and a tracking program so that someone you respect gets bimonthly updates on what websites you have been going to. Your chaver does not have to know that you have been struggling. Just tell him that your rebbe said that it is assur to have internet without it (or something to that effect).
