however, i have heard of many situations where a live agent came in handy and was able to help when a computer reservation couldn’t, such as natural disasters, flights cancelled in out-of-the-way places, etc. so perhaps if you’re going to somewhere exotic, it might be better not to book on-line, for a level of personal security.
smh1Memberi think this thread needs to be renamed. then even more people can weigh in with their opinions.
smh1Membersmartcookie – cute!- I’ll pass it on. You must have kids too 🙂
smh1Memberhere’s a groaner that’s popular with the kids:
#1: how do you spell rust?
#2: (slowly) R..U…S..T!
#1: (laughing hysterically) I’m not!
get it? ( “are you Esti?” )
more jokes, people!
thank you Yoshi for starting this!
smh1Memberthank you moderator for that link to rules. I suggest that it be more easily and obviously accessible, like maybe a link on the side. BTW, either due to more careful editing, or to maturing of posters, the tone of posts seems to be more pleasant and less angry, in general, the past few months.
smh1Memberon first screen of topics, “last poster” and “freshness” are not always accurate. for example, right now for this thread, it says: 7 posts(true); last post: shtultzy guy(not true); and freshness: one hour(not true). The last post I see here is “Bogen, 17 min ago”

smh1MemberI would like to see guidelines/rules for what can be said on this site. Also, sometimes things get posted, and then later deleted. Why were they posted to start with?
smh1Memberjust a comment- once a girl’s class starts “going” (getting married), they inevitably leave, usually to Lakewood, and so they are not in town anymore. plus, there’s the new hubby to consider! that being said, a close friend will do whatever he/she can to get to the chasuna. It is a very nice thing for the chassan’s family to do, to arrange for a bus for the guys (who are usually in the same place), but noone should expect it!! Perhaps another option is to arrange FOR a bus, with a discounted group rate. I often see this on invitations, not just for bochrim, when the wedding in is NY. This is a safe, easy, cheap way to get there and back.
smh1Member“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. Don’t complain.” !! – Maya Angelou
“We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon, instead of enjoying the roses blooming outside our windows today.” – Dale Carnegie
(esp. appropro re: our kids!)
“Many persons have the wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification but through fidelity to a worthy purpose.” – Helen Keller
“There are two ingredients for raising wonderful children: fifty percent tefillah and fifty percent shalom bayis” – R. Nachman of Breslov (Mishpacha Magazine last week)
smh1Memberexcuse me: what’s black friday??? i live in Canada, and I’ve never heard of it. It seems to be a good day for sales. why is it called “black”?
smh1MemberI feel I must remind everyone that this website and coffee room are open to ANYONE ANYWHERE, and jokes such as these may not seem funny to many, and in fact, may cause harm. please be careful when posting. we know that “others” do read these pages.
smh1Memberalso: what about buying a CD with your friend and both of you copying it? what if you buy it with 15 friends??
smh1Memberthere are many grey areas (can you copy one song? two? what if it’s your sister’s cd? what if she’s married? can you copy from someone, intending to erase it later? etc, etc, etc) As in all things, ASK your Rav, and follow what he says. That is your Da’as Torah. Good Luck.
P.S. I think this is such a big nisayon for our generation. it’s so easy to do, noone has to know, so many do it… but in most/many cases, it’s assur!
smh1Memberthank you everyone for your suggestions.
I love D’veykus too! and Regesh.
(PLEASE don’t let this thread become rants pro/con Jewish music today. thank you.)

October 3, 2008 3:46 am at 3:46 am in reply to: Anyone in Here See Destination Unknown Film? #622904smh1Memberi’d like to know if it’s scary/what it’s about. my daughter likes going to these things, but she gets nervous…
smh1Memberi asked my rabbi this shaila re: sippy cups that change colour. He tried it at his table and said it was fine.
seems to me this bottle would be the same.
but as always, why ask us? ask a rav!
smh1Memberalso yummy sweet and sour meatballs:
2 c. ginger ale
1.5 c. ketchup
bring to boil together. drop in raw meatballs (about 2lb. worth) simmer for 1.5 – 2 hours or longer.
I also toss in little pieces of onion and garlic, fresh or dried
put this up, go to shul, come home to a hot delicious meal!!! esp. nice in a cold sukkah
freezes very well. can be doubled.
enjoy!
smh1Memberdon’t forget to soak the shishkabob sticks before sticking on the meat and veggies! they should be quite wet, so they won’t burn (the sticks, not the food)
smh1Memberthank you thank you leider leider! one question – the pan of water goes UNDER the pan, on a lower rack, or the kugel sits in it? what temp? good shabbos!
smh1Memberideas for serving hot kugel on shaboss day, without putting it in cholent? I heard something about adding water to a cooked kugel, wrapping in foil and putting in low oven. does this work? how much water? what temp? any other ideas? thanks!
August 13, 2008 4:38 am at 4:38 am in reply to: A Thread That is Not Really About a New Cd by Boruch Levine #1026331smh1Memberi recently heard the Axle F theme song on a chassidishe exercise CD. I checked the case and it said “Chassidishe tzefardaya (frog)” !!!! I also saw a Bais Yaakov dance in a play done to this song.
smh1MemberLet’s leave aside the discussion of how *important* or not someone is, or how necessary it is that he (or she) be “on call”. How can any yid not want to maximize their precious few minutes of tefillah, Especially if they really are so busy/important! aside from maybe a husband whose wife is immenently due (but if she’s that close that it can’t wait 20 min, maybe he should be at home!), everyone understands that a man needs to daven! Most of all, the man himself should understand that!
there’s an old poem that atarts “I had so much to do, I had no time to pray..” and then everything goes wrong. the next day it’s “I have so much to do, I HAD to find time to pray…” !!
