November 24, 2008 2:48 pm at 2:48 pm in reply to: A mitzvah for an aveira? or at someone else’s expense? #626724smartcookieMemberEISHAS CHAYIL- Why are you asking this Halacha question from us? Please asked your Rabbi.
smartcookieMemberPlease, if you are not supporting a family at this point, think twice before you comment because you dont understand what Parnassah is until you are the head of the household.
smartcookieMemberShindy- You really sound like you love to cook and bake!!!!Do you stand in the kitchen all day?
smartcookieMemberSQUEAK: Are you Mekayim Vhegisa Bo Yomom Vloloh?????? Do you learn day and night?
smartcookieMembersome pple have jobs which requires them to take phone calls only- so between phone calls I guess…
Or someone like me- has to deal with many companies, and can sometimes wait over an hour for a big company to get to my phone call. In that spare time I check YW for any updates. Now for example, Im holding 15 minutes already and will probably still hold another 15 for this one!!!
smartcookieMemberSQUEAK- Are you supporting a family?
smartcookieMemberThank you Joseph, but while Im a very big Maamin, I believe in a bit of Hishtadlus too.
Let me ask you a more personal question:
Do you learn during the day(when not on YW)or do you work?
smartcookieMemberA SKIRT WITH A SLIT IS ASSUR- PERIOD. It attracts much attention. That cant be denied.
Lenghth of skirt- to each individual, must make sure your knees are covered AT ALL TIMES- when standing, sitting, and when getting into a van….etc….
smartcookieMemberJoseph- While it is very important to learn Torah, how are you expecting these Kollel Yungerleit to support their families?
smartcookieMemberSQUEAK- sorry, I didnt know you were having a private conversation. This usually doesnt happen on a public forum. But sorry if I disturbed your uplifting, most serious conversation with Joseph. I was just getting a kick out of his humor and wanted to let me know that he made me smile!!!
smartcookieMemberJoseph- You are absolutely hilarious!
smartcookieMemberIf anyone feels that Facebook will bring good to themselves or others, go ahead- that’s if you are one hundred percent sure. Do whatever you want, but make sure you dont become Nichshul in this Nesayin.
smartcookieMemberJOSEPH- I dont take this as funny. Dont mix Rashis about the Bais Hamikdosh into this concoction.I take Yerushalayim and Moshiach very seriously.
smartcookieMemberSJSIN- something is Assur only if the Torah or your Rabbi says so.I never asked about Facebook, so I dont know if its Assur or not.
But not everything that’s not Assur is RIGHT!!! Maybe you wont go to Gehinom for it, but it definitely doesnt bring a person closer to Gan Eden either. That’s the point.
Not everything that is allowed- is allowed for EVERYONE. Go a bit out of your way to guard yourself from Aveiros. Thats it. Use your common sense please and dont come giving me examples now of things we have to refrain from and we all do it. Everyone should use their own judgement.
Each to their own.
smartcookieMemberFEMINIST- I dont get what you are trying to convey.
smartcookieMemberINTELLEGENT- please go check yourself out by a doctor. No reasn to be nauseous.
smartcookieMemberI HOPE THIS IS A SARCASTIC JOKE BECAUSE I DONT GET IT OTHERWISE.
smartcookieMemberDavid Bar Magen- Your comment was sssssssssoooooooooooo cute. Go compare a bakery, which we need for daily living, to Facebook- something we dont need but only want.
Being that so many wrong relationships started on Facebook, and that’s a fact, it is considered something that many pple stay away from. Since these stories generally do not occur in bakeries, it is considered ok to enter a bakery. If bakeries would also bring negative results, pple would start being extra cautious and refrain from using bakeries too.
Please stop making unsensible comparisons. If you believe that facebook is so great, go ahead and use it- AT YOUR OWN RISK. If someone wants to watch themselves from putting themselves into a situation, there is nothing wrong with not being on facebook. Good for them!! They are doing the right thing!!!
smartcookieMemberabcd1234- that last joke was absolutely nauseating and not even funny. Thank you. Please make me laugh in the future..
smartcookieMemberso JOSEPH- whats that CHiyuv all about?
smartcookieMemberQUEEN- Please, do your research immediately and just place him in whatever sounds best to you, even if it’s not 100% what you wanted. It’s not healthy for anyone, especially a young boy to sit home all day. It’s not good for his sanity, and not too great for his self esteem either. Please resolve the matter immediately. Im very worried for him. He needs structure and schedule.
November 19, 2008 3:19 pm at 3:19 pm in reply to: Is a Boy Looking to Date a Girl or a Chavrusah? #1217737smartcookieMemberAnd then that same girl doesnt let her husband go out to work…..You must sit in Kollel forever.(dont have to learn- at least sit there so I can tell my friends you’re in Kollel)
smartcookieMembermayan-dvash- they dont really respond very often
smartcookieMemberTHANK YOU AVITHEDEMON2- you brought down proof that we must keep back from any site we dont really need. rather safe than sorry.
smartcookieMemberTAL! WOW! You are one strong person!!! You are so very special. May Hashem continue giving you the Koich to do what is right, and may he reward you for your good actions.
smartcookieMemberI know pple who went off the Derech, and the first thing they did was post themselves on Facebook to find some new friend who will encourage their negative actions.
smartcookieMemberrather safe than sorry. You can live without it. c’mon.
smartcookieMemberYOSHI- Those who think you should overlook the outer shell of a person completely…..
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER competely overlook the outer shell!!!Its very important to see that the girl is neat, ok looking, and not ugly etc…
But to make that as priority 1, is not important for a marriage to succeed.
smartcookieMemberLGBG- any relationship, where you do dont know the person personally, can end up dangerous. You think you get to know the person, but you dont.
And since Facebook is a public, free site, any person can post themselves on it. Doesnt sound too safe to me. I would never post there. Too public.
smartcookieMemberFEMINIST- Not all Chassidish couples are happy of course, but nothing having to do with being attracted before marriage, for most cases.
proof- not all Litvish pple are happy either, and they were all of course so attracted before, since they dated one hundred times……
And, couples who divorce could have been attracted one hundred times to each other, but it does not gaurantee them a happy life.
Most Chassidishe couple who only met once, live very happily together.
smartcookieMemberJEWISH FEMINIST- please use your own judgement and do not post anything that will either upset pple or cause much controversy.
smartcookieMemberNO JEWISH FEMINIST, they are REALLY happy. They truly love each others. I know many Chassidishe couples personally.
smartcookieMemberMARINER- POCK MARKS OVER THEIR SKIN, WHO SMELLS BAD, AND IS DISHEVELED IS UGLY.
Now, that is a whole different story- your not talking about Hashem’s creation here. You’re talking about someone not taking care of themselves. That’s not called ugly as in opposition of beauty. That is ugly as in neglected. This is something that can be helped, and the person is at fault.
We’re talking about natural looks, how you were born and cannot change.
Anyway, I did not mean that you should marry someone who is unattracting.Someone who you view as ugly, be it skinny or fat, please dont marry them!!! But someone who is just decent looking, not the PRETTIEST, and well put together, will become attracted after marriage.
By the way, take a look at the Chassidishe world, they meet once and engaged!!! I doubt they get attracted to each other like that. But guess what, it works!!!
Theyre all so happy, many of them happier than couples that were SOOOOO attracted to each other.
smartcookieMemberAs a birthday present, a woman asked her husband for something that accelerates form 0-100 in 4 seconds, expecting the latest sportscar. Fullfilling her wish, she unwrapped the gift only to find a brand new digital scale!!!!
smartcookieMemberA woman in a hot air balloon realizes she is lost. She
lowers her altitude and spots a man fishing from a
boat below.
She shouts to him, ‘Excuse me, can you help me? I
promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I
don’t know where I am.’
The man consults his portable GPS and replies, ‘You’re
in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a
ground elevation of 2346 feet above sea level. You are
at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100
degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.
She rolls her eyes and says, ‘You must be a
Republican!’
‘I am,’ replies the man. ‘How did you know?’
‘Well,’ answers the balloonist, ‘everything you tell
me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to
do with your information, and I’m still lost. Frankly,
you’re not much help to me.’
The man smiles and responds, ‘You must be a Democrat.’
‘I am,’ replies the balloonist. ‘How did you know?’
‘Well,’ says the man, ‘You don’t know where you are or
where you’re going. You’ve risen to where you are, due
to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise
that you have no idea how to keep, and now you expect
me to solve your problem. You’re in exactly the same
position you were in before we met, but, somehow,
now it’s my fault.
smartcookieMemberBEACON- no, I am not living in a cave. I rather know exactly what goes on in the world today. I am just stating a fact of how it SHOULD be, not how we behave in reality. Sadly, we dont follow that frame of mind today. But it really would be the right thing to do!!! I wish!!!
smartcookieMemberI did something fantastic- we all loved it.
I got a dish that has a ceramic bowl on a stand with a candle underneath it.(bought in Manhattan dept. store for about $10).
I cut up some fresh fruits, melons, even banana! and of course some fresh choc chip cookies/brownie cakes. I then filled this dish with bittersweet baking chocolate, lit the candle under the dish, and waited for the choc to melt.
We then had a delicious dessert dipping the fruits into the hot chocolate!!!!
Was a real delicacy!!
The family was thrilled!!!!
smartcookieMemberHASHEM YISHMOR- since when do we only marry boys/girls that are attracting? If a girl has great Middos, is a balabuste, a Yiras Shomayim, and of course looks neat and put together- that’s enough. No need to get attracted before marriage. If she’s a good girl, any boy will get attracted to her for what she IS, not for what she LOOKS.
Today’s Shidduchim are only about looks. Much more important than Middos.
Personally- I find many real pretty girls very sour and with bad Middos. Of course there are many wonderful, pretty woman out there, but so many of them are pretty on the outside and not too pretty inside at all….
smartcookieMemberWhen Sara Palin’s baby will need a diaper change, she’ll call Obama, he likes change!!!
Perhaps a bit late, but this was one of the hundreds of jokes circling before the elections.
smartcookieMemberWas there once and since then, Im desperate to go again!!! Gotta save up a few thousand first!!!
Nothing like Eretz Yisrael!!
smartcookieMemberTo Joseph and anyone else interested in a refreshing fruit salad. Here goes:
3 pomegranates(seeds)
6 kiwis(peeled and diced)
2 mangos(peeled and diced)
1 bag frozen strawberries
1 15oz can crushed pineapple(drained)
1 15oz can pineapple tidbits(drained)
1 cup raspberry jello (prepared according to package instructions)
Mix all ingredients, then pour on prepared jello and mix.
ENJOY!!!
This recipe is originally from the Bablabuste’s Choice cookbook, however, I tried that many times until I figured out exactly how I like it best. So this post here is that recipe but generously modified.
smartcookieMemberGILA- you posted a very difficult question. You will never know in this world what your Yesurim are from. They might just be a test from Hashem to see how well you pass, they might serve as an atonement for your sins or for the sins of your previous Gilgul, or it may be that Hashem is just giving you all suffering here that in the next world everything should be really good for you…
One can never know, but there definitely is a reason for everything and I give you a Bracha that you should suffer no more and whatever suffering you do go through should only be for the good.
May you and all of Klal Yisroel know of no more suffering and live healthy, peacefully and happily until 120!
smartcookieMemberCan I please give you that recipe and do it yourself? Very simple- even for a man to do it!!! You really sound DESPERATE!!!!
smartcookieMemberAlrighty- if you come pick it up, Im ready to make a new batch for you!!! Now we’ll only find out that we live in two other ends of the world anyway!!!
smartcookieMemberEYESOPEN-that was a wonderful post- couldnt be more true.
And to those of you who claim that men that are unattracted to heavier girls- you are not looking to get married to build a home, you are looking for other things in marriage- for that relation with the most beautiful girl.
Jewish marriage is about loving each others for what you are. If you have a true Ayshis Chayil as a wife, you love her no matter what.
Please- Im not talking about some women who DONT CARE about their looks. Some are unfortunately really messy, and shluchy as we call it.But, the average wife, who looks put together and neat, should be perfectly ok for us Yidden.
smartcookieMemberJOSEPH- Just one little problem- there’s nothing left of it!!!
smartcookieMemberThanks a lot!!! Some of your recipes look so tempting!!! At the end- i decided that a simple fruit salad will go better than cake!!! So that’s what I did and boy was it great!!!
I appreciate your help and I will try to remember these ideas for another occasion!!
smartcookieMemberThank you everybody- I appreciate your good ideas. Any more suggestions?
smartcookieMemberLOOKS like this arguement will go way past Tuesday according to some posts here. Pple are still arguing who is better. HELLO EVERYBODY!!!! IT’S OVER!!!!
Hashem stays in control anyway, be it Obama or Mccain. He is OUR PRESIDENT.
