Teachers in frum schools aren’t often trained to handle challenging kids. They usually make situations that are dealable worse.

I think the concept of “over-educated” women bothers men because they start to wonder about “kalot rosh” with regard to women.

But my experience still stands. Those “over-educated” women are often able to accomplish what they do BECAUSE they haven’t gotten married young, not vice versa. Not all of course, but most.

IME, the more yeshivish girls who go on careers with longer schooling are doing so because they aren’t married. So they major in biology because in theory they might be a doctor. As they graduate and aren’t dating anyone, they figure they might pursue their dreams in the meantime.

Your company wouldn’t go bankrupt without you. I am sure they would even turn a profit. Therefore, you are not contributing to the rent really.

Arc, yes landlords make money, but not as much as people think. There are taxes, mortgages, building upkeep, code requirements etc.

Wolf can safely assume that any part of his company profit, if it even affects his companies rent (which it doesn’t really) can be going to the upkeep part.

No Wolf. They are obligated to pay their rent even if you do not do a thing. Their lease is not tied to performance.

Also, I doubt the Church is really making much off the rent. More likely, its going for building upkeep.

Moq, absolutely I want my husband to avoid situations he finds difficult. He drives to work and works for a company that’s like 90% male 🙂

Its more of a practical matter regarding our A/Cs. They are digital but don’t have built in timers. You can’t cycle them on and off. Its either on or off. So we leave them on when needed.

There was a thread at some point about going to an arcade and complaining that a girl was dancing on the DDR machine. How could she take her son out of the house if he was going to witness things like that?

So quarantine your son. Isn’t that easier than screening every place you go for a possible non-tzanua girl?

jakyweb, I think its really a business decision. There are people who won’t buy the publications if women are in it. There aren’t many people who won’t buy it if there aren’t women in it. They get more money that way.

    in reply to: Bowling #705905

Maybe in your private bowling alley. But how can a man go out to a bowling alley where there might be improperly dressed women bending over? Sounds like unkosher entertainment to me.

If its not tznius for a woman to bowl, then it means than men shouldn’t be around women bowling right? Since bowling alleys don’t have seperate hours, it would seem like “relaxing” would be doing more harm than good.

GAW, in past positions in my company, I was putting in a good 80 hours a week (so 40 hours OT). That was lucky because I was off on Shabbos.

Pre-children. I doubt I could do it now. Although, the money would be nice. It would make yeshiva tuition more affordable.

If you’ve ever watched the PBA (and I have LOL), they don’t bend in a non-tzanua way.

But really, how could any man bowl? Isn’t it 100% assur as its just bittul zman?

Mod80, we don’t allow him to watch Christmas specials. All the other ones are really simple episodes about learning numbers, shapes, directions etc. No athiest messages at least that I’ve caught.

I’m generally right next to him nursing the baby. He watches maybe 1-2X a week.

Really, how is it different than when people let their kids read Mickey Mouse books? There are no commercials. Its pre-taped. And there is nothing wrong with them (unless you consider a duck without pants a problem).

I understand why people filter out TV. But I don’t agree that I am losing my olam habah because of it.

I’ve never watched Barney so I can’t comment on that.

But a down syndrome child has cognitive abilities. They also have normal male/female desires, but often have less inhibition. You would probably want to be even more careful with a child like that.

Mod-80, you never explained what was wrong with a mouse teaching my son shapes.

And FTR, I understand why people don’t allow themselves to watch any (or very minimal) TV. I just think they don’t understand that there are kosher things on TV as well.

Lets call a spade a spade: would you send your children to a school with rumored molestors teaching there but they couldn’t get two solid witnesses?

If your answer is yes, follow Rabbi Klein. If your answer is no, then report the molestors to police.

Just become a woman is frum, doesn’t mean she will take good care of your child(ren). Please look at a woman’s qualifications, not her religious status.

We use a non-Jewish daycare that has a ton of frum kids. They are very respectful of only feeding the kids food you bring (or on occasion, foods with a proper hechsher that they talk to you about before). They are warm, loving and teach the kids a ton.

    1) Its a waste of electricity

    2) There is a lot of religious programming that your kids will inadvertently be exposed to. Do you really want to expose them to that? Many shows have religious episodes (Christmas, Easter etc). Do you want them to be indoctrinated? (does this break your rule?)

    3) TV doesn’t inspire creativity in children. Is creates kids who are lumps, don’t use their brains and don’t get excersize because they are sitting there entertained without doing anything.

    4) TV is likely to harm your vision if you watch too much.

    5) Often, people leave the TV on too loud and can cause partial deafness.

This is fun – I love arguing the other side.

Well, under your faucet is a basin with a drain. The only time its a problem is if the drain gets clogged or the water flow is too much for the drain (if its been designed properly, this is virtually impossible).

Unless you have a faucet draining right into your living room?
