Yeah they can be bad but they can also be good. A parent just had to be on top of it. If a parent isn’t afraid to be a parent then I don’t see the harm in them. Just have strong control over the games being brought in and how often they use it.

A lot of people use Sher Auto Sales but they are in Baltimore, I think.

You should know about the Lemon Laws and any other law that lets you give back your car to the car dealer even after a yr or two.

Unfortunately we didn’t know this and now are stuck with our car 🙁 So check into those!!

about toddlers – in my experience they don’t understand what you are saying when you speak their ‘language’. For example my younger sister called my sister a nickname instead of her real name cuz she couldn’t say it. But when we would ask my baby sister if she wanted the other sister using the nickname she would have no idea what we were talking about.

about other people who don’t speak English properly – I don’t think it’s a conscious thing. But it could be you just adapt how your talking to theirs without even realizing.

I once tasted a cornish hen- its a very normal food actually but the first time i ate it- i literally felt that i was eating a real live hen- i dont feel that way im eating a chicken. it was very good and juicy!

Ha reminds me we went somewhere and they served it and my father was like pretending to make chicken sounds. My sister would not eat chicken for the longest time!!!!!

Strange food…none. Why would I eat something weird?

Also we use parchment paper in the crock pot and it usually does a good job of not leaving any residue behind.

Worst job…hmmm anything where the kitchen isn’t clean or if its crowded…I can’t function.

She should keep on eye on her son and his new friends but should never tell him he’s not allowed to hang out with them cuz that will just make him resent her. The best way to get to know his friends is by inviting them to your house and you’ll probably see they are good kids who are confused.

Also, like others said before why do you think he is hanging out with these kids and if its recent what caused it?

Another thing, don’t be too overbearing and always asking him where he’s been and what he’s doing. Give him breathing room but support him. Be there for him cuz he’s probably going through a rough time.

The system is what makes good frum kids go off. Plain and simple. You can blame things from today till tomorrow, and yes there may be other factors, but the root of the problem is the system and once that changes, I think there will be less kids going off.

There are many kids that are going off inside (there was a Mishpacha article about that) they don’t really care about Yiddishkeit inside they are just pretending on the outside cuz they learn that’s all thats really important.

Call yourself a Bais Yaakov, but unless you act like one you aren’t. You’re lying! What message are you teaching kids? The basic things of faith in Hashem, they preach to you all the time but the way they act is the total opposite. I’m a kid in the system right now, you can take my word for what I’m saying.

I’m a good frum girl. I was in a Bais Yaakov and hated it. And it wasn’t just my school. My friend’s friend got suspended for asking a question on Emunah or something like that. When kids get that message, then what’s the point? Why should I live a life of restrictions, that’s all that the school is teaching them. They don’t teach about the beauty of Judaism and if you try to find it, then you’re like an apikorus.

They try to fit you into a mold and if you don’t want to be a teacher in BY and have 25 kids while living off a kollel paycheck in a basement apartment in Lakewood then you aren’t frum. Judaism is taught as all or nothing. But it’s not like that!!

A kid who is having a hard time with Tznius or another mitzva, why should they try to fix it? They’re burning in hell either way, so why not just transgress all the others cuz you’re doomed either way.

People become so focused on the small things that aren’t even Halacha and make them into Halacha and just focus on externals. (that did not just make sense. sorry) Judaism is a way of living. It’s not supposed to strangle you, and if it does there is something wrong!

Sorry for ranting but it’s a really sore topic for me, becuase it’s just soooo messed up and someone needs to do something about it quick!!!!

so right – have you ever ridden a bike with a long skirt (I’m not sure if you’re a guy or a girl but I’m assuming a guy)? It is totally possible to ride a bike with a long skirt that won’t ride up.

Why should it be a problem? What’s wrong with it?

People really need to set standards that are realistic, especially in regard to others.

We have some really close friend that comes to us often so each time she comes she doesn’t bring something (I mean if your married sister came and every time brought something, it’d be weird.) Sometime she makes dessert and brings it. But by Yontiff and stuff she brings over a platter. It’s a good, cheap, inexpensive gift that is really useful.

P.S. – If you’re coming to us for Shabbos, cherry nibs is your ticket in!

lol we had to make hostess gifts for my sisters school and we got nibs for them!!! I guess they’ll invite the girls again with them. 🙂

Normally people don’t come. Cute story – we used to have non-Jewish neighbors a few years ago. Once my great-grandparents came a few weeks before Halloween and gave us some good British and Swiss chocolate. My neighbor wanted some which of course we wouldn’t give but her older brother was like, oh don’t worry we’ll get it on Halloween. They never came 🙂

Another year my mother brought back from Israel Mikupelet’s but we don’t by the hechser so on Halloween we gave it to them. My family had some fun explained the Israeli chocolate bar. 🙂

You took me back to the BP of the 70’s when it was real dangerous outside.

I’m not that old, but we used to have recess when the public school kids came out of school and they used to throw rocks and snowballs at us!!! You still gotta be careful 🙂

    To my star pupil,

I am writing this letter to let you know what I think of you. Up here in heaven things are not like they are down on Earth. Over there, people only know what they can see. If they see a person is “successful”, they think that he is the greatest guy. When they see somebody struggling, they think he might be one of the weaker elements.

Let me tell you something. Hashem gives every person certain abilities that nobody knows about down where you live. Some people are capable of tremendous things, while others were put there for much smaller purposes. Only Hashem in His infinite wisdom is able to give every person exactly what he needs, to reach his potential.

I am very misunderstood. Most people hate me, and I don’t really blame them. Most people think that my job is to make sure that they fail in all aspects of Mitzvos, and that I rejoice every time they sin. This is the furthest thing from the truth. Did you ever watch a boxing coach train his student? It is really a funny sight. The coach will put on gloves, and fight against his student. At first, he won’t hit him so hard, or throw his best punches. But, as the student gets better and better, the coach will start to fight him harder and harder. He does this so that the student will improve his skills, and become the best boxer he can be. This is where it gets strange. Every time the coach knocks down the student, the student gets yelled at!! But finally, when the coach threw everything he has at his student, and not only does he withstand the beating, but he knocks the coach down, there is nobody in the world happier then the coach himself!

This is exactly how I feel. If you fail right away, and don’t even try to fight back, I see that there is not much talent to work with, and so I take it easy on you. But if you get back up swinging, I realize that I may have a real winner here, and so I start to intensify the beating. With every level that you go up, I increase the intensity of the fight. If you finally deal me a blow that knocks me out, I will get up and embrace you and rejoice with your success.

Sometimes my job is very disappointing I see a person with a lot of potential and I start right in on him. He fights back for a while, but when the fight gets too tough, he quits and just remains on whatever level he was on. (And he usually ends up going down!) I feel like yelling at him, “Get up you fool! Do you have any idea how much more you could be accomplishing?!” But I am not allowed to do so. I just leave him alone, and go try to find another promising candidate.

If I have chosen you to be the target of my more fierce battles, it was not for no reason! You have tremendous ability! You were born into a very special family, you have Rabbeim who really care about you, and parents who would help you grow in Torah and Mitzvos. You are a very respectful and kind person.

Always remember one thing: you have a secret weapon at your disposal. I shouldn’t really be telling you – but I will anyway. Hashem himself is watching our “training” sessions very closely. I’m pleased to inform you that He’s rooting for you! If things should ever get tough, almost too tough to bear, just callout to Him with a prayer, and He will immediately come to your aid. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope that after 120 years when your time is up in that world of falsehood, you will come up here to the world of truth, where I will be waiting for you with open arms, to congratulate you on your victory, and personally escort you to your place next to the Kisey HaKavod.

Sincerely, and with great admiration I remain,

    Your Yetzer Hara

These have probably been repeated a thousand times but are still worth the laugh.

A Kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they were drawing. She would occasionally walk around to see each child’s work.

As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was.

The girl replied, ‘I’m drawing God.’

The teacher paused and said, ‘But no one knows what God looks like’

Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, ‘They will in a minute.’

A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds.

After explaining the commandment to ‘honour’ thy Father and thy Mother, she asked, ‘Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?’

Without missing a beat one little boy (the oldest of a family) answered, ‘Thou shall not kill..’

One day a little girl was sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother had several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head.

She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, ‘Why are some of your hairs white, Mum?’

Her mother replied, ‘Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white.’

The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then said, ‘Mummy, how come ALL of grandma’s hairs are white?’

The children had all been photographed, and the teacher was trying to persuade them each to buy a copy of the group picture.

‘Just think how nice it will be to look at it when you are all grown up and say, ‘There’s Jennifer, she’s a lawyer,’ or ‘That’s Michael, He’s a doctor.’

A small voice at the back of the room rang out, ‘And there’s the teacher, she’s dead.’

A teacher was giving a lesson on the circulation of the blood. Trying to make the matter clearer, she said, ‘Now, class, if I stood on my head, the blood, as you know, would run into it, and I would turn red in the face.’

    ‘Yes,’ the class said.

‘Then why is it that while I am standing upright in the ordinary position the blood doesn’t run into my feet?’

    A little fellow shouted,

    ‘Cause your feet ain’t empty.’

The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray:

‘Take only ONE . God is watching.’

Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies.

A child had written a note, ‘Take all you want. God is watching the apples.’

Kids don’t “need” the internet, but nobody “needs” it.

In certain schools, like Wolfish said, the teachers post the homework assignments online. Or in school they have filtered internet and you have to do research for assignments during class.

If you don’t want your kid to have to use the internet, send them to a different school. I went to a school that when kids asked if they could do stuff online, the teacher wasn’t allowed to say yes, she had to say it in a roundabout way cuz the school doesn’t want to promote internet usage. (And half the kids have email :))

Bad news if a yeshiva or bais yakov requires internet usage to complete assignments.

    Why?

I heard a thing that there is a midrash somewhere that people were acting really really bad, like animals. So Hashem said, if you want to be like animals, I’ll make you into animals. And slowly they started changing into monkeys.

So in fact it is true that we share a common ancestor: the human!

(It could be that it was by Dor Enos they might’ve started looking like monkeys but I’m not sure)

A close relative was diagnosed with cancer around five years ago. He had a 4% chance of life and doctors weren’t hopeful. They were debating to do chemo because if he was going to die anyway, he should do it peacefully.

Thank G-d they did chemo and lived for an additional five years. Unfortunately he was just niftar, but he was in remission a bunch of times, they had gotten rid of the cancer. He even had a kid while he was sick!

I know it’s not exactly a happy ending, but never ever give up! Even when everything is going bad and it doesn’t look like they’ll get better, because they might, everything is in G-d’s hands. Not the doctors.

Thanks for the link Mr Mod. for some reason when I googled it they didn’t show me that page.

It was actually for an History essay which I hope I didn’t fail ;). Uch, I would freak out if I had tests this early on in the year!!!!

Are there any history buffs here?

Does anyone know what the northern colonies produced and what the south produced?

What was the racial/ethnic make up of the northern colonies? the southern colonies?

    Thanks!
