AS the father of 5 boys and three wonderful sons i law, B’H, I can tell you there is NOTHING WRONG with your son having A cold beer. when he has SIX, then its an issue. Especially if he is at home, or with his parents.
There is nothing wrong with it, as long as its in moderation. Excessive drinking is dangerous, whether he is married or not!
We can infer from your letter, that once he’s married, he can get plastered!
Wishing your son finds the right zivug, beer or not.My Children’s and grandchildren’s Yeshiva has had a no peanut policy in pace for many years. Any teacher or Rebbi that has a child in their class that is highly allergic, is given an Epi pen (supplied by the parent) and instructed in its use. The weekly newsletter sent home with the children has a very prominent reminder. When a party is made in the classroom, Rebbi or Morah checks the snacks brought.
The major issue with Amuka will not solve the Shidduch crisis. There is a MECHITZA running down the middle of the path to the kever and around the Kever.

As a small business owner, I am paying for my employees health insurance. They are getting less coverage, and i am paying more. SO WE BOTH LOSE.
Just by allowing insurance to be purchased across state lines will drop the cost of insurance. COMPETITION IS GOOD
I am a small business owner. I cannot speak about the subsidy portion of Obamacare, but i can speak about the costs and services. We had a group plan for many years that was good for all of us. it increased between 5-10% yearly. Then came Obama care! Our perfectly good plan was NOT GOOD. it was replaced with an Obama plan that cost 30% more, and was accepted by fewer doctors. Our deducible and out of pocket increased as well.This has happened every single year since. we have switched companies several times in order to keep the ridiculously rising costs down! Our current plan is going up almost 30% for next year. They are covering fewer hospitals and doctors, and my out of pocket has gone up $2000.
SO TELL ME, WHAT’S GOOD ABOUT OBAMACARE. One more year, and I wont be able to afford health insurance!!
IN NYC its is LEGAL to park at a hydrant, IF the DRIVER is behind the wheel, ONLY DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS. At nigh time you CANNOT block a hydrant under ANY circumstances.

Mesivta Chaim Shlomo (Darchei) is an excellent choice. It is run by Rabbi Yaakov Bender, shlita. They have all kinds of programs for the bochurim. They offer AP courses for the boys. They definitely prepare you for college, though they will not encourage you to go. they also will not discourage you.
I know many boys that graduated from MCS, went to EY, came back and went to schools such as Harvard Law, NYU, etc. and they are all fine bnei Torah.

As the father of B”H six married children (4 boys, 2 girls) we met the girl after the fourth or fifth date(depending on where the relationship had progressed to). Our son told the girl we would like to meet her. We met them during the course of a date, at whatever location or activity our son had chosen. We spent approximately 10 minutes “shmoozing” and then left. It was just to see if there were any “vibes” parents pick up on. B”H our sons ALL CHOSE WELL 🙂

I don’t think you can compare dating to work related issues about shaving.

What’s wrong with the boy that learned for several years after marriage and then gets a job AND learns every day?
As a father of both sons and daughters who learned ion Israel,
i can tell you that the seminaries are much more cautious and protective of the girls.
All seminaries require that the girls have cell service from the seminaries chosen provider. this allows the seminary to end out mass texts and calls to all girls at once.
Seminaries have curfews, yeshivas don’t.
Seminaries require the girls to tell them where they are spending Shabbos AND WITH WHOM, yeshivas don’t.
Seminaries take the girls on ORGANIZED tiyulim, most yeshivas don’t.
All in all, if you are going to a seminary in Yerushalayim and don’t do crazy things, like going to Petra or Cairo, you will be fine.

As the father of a petite girl in shidduchim, it does bother us and our daughter when the boy is shorter. we have had sevral instances where the Shadchan has told us the boy is 5’3 – 5’4
and when he showed up, he was shorter than my daughter in FLATS.
we have nothing against shorter boys, but TELL THE TRUTH!
As a resident of FR for almost 30 years, allow me to weigh in.
Whether you are buying or renting, FR is more expensive than Bayswater. A 3 bedroom in FR scan start at $2000. so you get a lot more for your money in Bayswater. That being said, the concerns mentioned before, such as distance from FR, safety, etc. are greater there.
FR & Bayswater are both part of NYC, so the property taxes are lower, but you also have NYC income tax.
In the 5T, property taxes are based on the school district you are in. so the same house on either side of Woodmere Blvd. could have a difference of $3000!
With regard to shuls, schools and shopping, there are all equal. you can find what you need in all the areas. Nassau County provides busing to all its school aged residents, regardless if the school in Nassau County or not.
If you plan on renting, there is very little the 5T or Inwood. Most houses are single family. So if you want an apartment, it’s Bayswater or FR.
Young couples are moving to the area for many reasons. There are good schools, all the neighborhoods have an “out-of-town” feel, they all have KOSHER L’MEHADRIN EIRUVS.
Yes, houses are not cheap, but much cheaper than Brooklyn or Queens.

Halachah TRUMPS dying wishes. That why we have a Rov. If your Rov cannot or will not give you a Pska, at least he can send you to a Rov that is more knowledgeable about end of life issues.
But “express wishes” don’t count, the Torah does.
I once asked my Rov to mention this issue during one of his speeches. he said ” IF HIS MOTHER COULDN’T TEACH HIM< YOU THINK I CAN??”
after all the back and forth, the bottom line is:
ARE THERE SHADCHANIM that specialize or dont look down at working boys AND THE GIRLS THAT WANT TO MARRY THEM!

First of all, all of these “collectors” are NOT TZEDAKAH !
Many of them are collecting for themselves. They are perfectly capable of working, yet find it easier to schnorr. that is what they are SCHNORRERS.
IF they have a valid letter from an ESTABLISHED VAAD, that is NOT EXPIRED, then IT IS TZEDAKAH.
Many of these Russians come around with letters from a Rav in Queens that states IF you believe the are Jewish, then give them.
with regard to the Chadishe guys that swarm into shul and wave their hands under your nose, they should know the Halachas and know when they can or cannot collect. fi you ignore them, they will learn.
As a resident of the 5T for over 25 years, i must say that it is a wonderful area to live in. Granted some parts are pricey, but you can buy a house at a decent price. Many young couples have moved to Inwood, North Woodmere, parts of Cedarhurst and Woodmere. There is even talk of a group moving to Valley Stream. All of these areas are relatively close to the shopping and restaurants in the 5T.
You can also check out West Hempstead and Oceanside.
It’s a bit hectic this close to Pesach to go and watch matza baking UNLESS the bakery is equipped for it. My chaburah went to bake this past Sunday. We were hampered by little kids going back and forth watching and getting in the way. its difficult to carry matzos to the ‘reidler” (hole maker)while dodging back and forth.
Then you have the issue of “helpers”. every kid over 8 or so wants to get into the action and help. the problem is, WE HAVE A CHABURAH for a REASON. we want to ensure that the baking is done according to our standards. Parents letting their kids “help” may work for them, but they’re MY matzos, not yours.

there is a scrap dealer on Cropsey Avenue right in front of Home Depot. if its one machine and you can take it to him, fine.
if you have a lot, he can send someone to you and shlep. you will get less money if he shleps it.
there is a “market” price for every metal. the dealers are almost all the same price.

I have a Puerto Rican that works for me, and he and his entire family are Karaites! They never were Jews, they never considered themselves Jews.
He would not cut the grass on my lawn during SHMITTA!
Several years ago, he kept Pesach TWO WEEKS EARLY, because his “Priest” was in EY, and saw green barley blooming on Purim.
(AVIV is when barley blooms. SO Purim to him became Rosh Chodesh Nisan, and they all kept Pesach TWO WEEKS EARLY.
So unless you can provide the names of some Gedolim that say Karaites are Kosher Jews, I would not call them that.
While my daughter was in seminary a few years ago, she went with some girls to Rebbitzen Kanievsky a’h. It was during Chanukah, and they arrived just as R’ Chaim shlita was getting ready to light.
My daughter and her freinds were able to stand near the Rebiitzen in the doorway while R’ Chaim lit the menorah. After R’ Chaim lit, THE REBITTZEN LIT HER OWN MENORAH WITHOUT A BROCHO!!! We have photos of it at home. If Rebbitzen kanievsky could light, so can all other girls and women.
