You callin’ 42 a liar?
shmoelMemberAkuperma correctly pointed out that conservative “synagogues” are not Jewish. The adherents of the false religion known as conservatives are mostly Jewish, but they don’t practice Judaism. (Mostly, since any of their converts, and descendants of female converts, remain gentiles.)
May 17, 2012 12:35 am at 12:35 am in reply to: Talking after Hamapil by Kriyas Shma Shel Mita #874330shmoelMemberWhat does the Aruch Hashulchan say about talking? And which other poskim take a position on when one must stop talking until the morning? Btw, if you wake up in middle of the night can you talk? Walk? Eat?

shmoelMemberI give $36 is I stay for the meal. If I only came for the Chuppa I usually don’t give a gift.
shmoelMemberYCT is not frum. It has the same status as a theological school from the reform or conservative religions.
shmoelMemberKof-K Dairy is like OU-D. Non-CY.
shmoelMemberberlin: If you insist on thanking someone, consider the following:
Adolf Eichmann:
Ordered a train with a 1700 capacity
Authorized the boarding of 1700 Jews
Ordered border guards to allow passage of train to Switzerland
Kastner had the capacity nor the authority to do any of that. All he could do, as a favor to him from Eichmann, was select the passenger list. Why did Eichmann give him that favor? In return for Kastner keeping the Jews quiet so Eichmann could liquidate them to Aushwitz without too much trouble. So kastner hid the Vrba-Westzler Report. And even AFTER the war, Kastner testified in DEFENSE of multiple Nazis at their war crimes trials in Nuremberg and got them acquitted and saved their lives.
shmoelMemberYou can kill a rodef on the spot. Example: someone is chasing someone else trying to kill him. You can kill the attempted killer. Or someone is going to masser someone else to to the government. Or, similar to Pinchas, you witness an actual maisa znus (eishes ish).
May 11, 2012 7:41 pm at 7:41 pm in reply to: Woman Should Always Wear Her Wedding Ring in Public? #873603shmoelMemberMen are prohibited from wearing a ring, as it is a female article of clothing. Secondly, Jewish men never wore rings througout history. Don’t try to be wiser than 3,000+ years of our zeidas.
shmoelMemberSam, which Rishonim disagree with Rambam and on what do the disagree with him on? Anyways, if the Shulchan Aruch paskens like the Rambbbam how is it relevant if there are other Rishonim?
If the Tzitz Eliezer says its assur to act individually, he’s talking about contemporary times. He answered an actual teshuva presented to him.
May 11, 2012 6:18 pm at 6:18 pm in reply to: Woman Should Always Wear Her Wedding Ring in Public? #873598shmoelMemberUnmarried people shouldn’t be acting any differently to opposite genders in the workplace or street than a married person should be acting with an opposite gender.
shmoelMemberWhat treatments are available if the perpertrator is willing? If he is unwilling, what steps can those around him take?
shmoelMemberDelivery person, barber, coat room, valet, doorman, baggage handler and car service I don’t tip. Waiter, taxi and counselor I tip.
May 11, 2012 2:24 pm at 2:24 pm in reply to: Woman Should Always Wear Her Wedding Ring in Public? #873591shmoelMemberBPT: Why do you characterize her leaving home without the ring as “freedom”?
shmoelMemberOthers disagree with Rav Belsky as to the permissiveness of copying. Also, Rav Belsky is clearly basing his opinion (as well as his reading of Rav Moshe’s opinion) on hasgas gvul (not IP protection), which is different than hello99’s opinion. Rav Belsky says it is permissible to make a second copy for your car, while hello99’s opinion is that would be assur due to “gezel”.
It’s also noteworthy that Rav Belsky seemingly allows personal non-commercial copying of Torah works.
shmoelMemberDoes a gallon of CY milk in Chicago cost the same as 2 half gallons or is it less?
shmoelMemberSo early? Amazing!!
shmoelMemberMy accountant gets upset if I call him an accountant. 🙂
shmoelMemberSam, if they’re all treifos, why does Rav Schachter give it his hasgacha?
shmoelMemberSam, I was just baiting the wolf. He is so pliable to fall for such gags. If I wouldn’t have told you this, he would have been sure to tell us what an apikorus he is since he would never kill an Amaleiki. Now I better protect myself before he tries to bite me.
shmoelMemberTheir Yeshivos refuse to accept money they are legally entitled to based on their students being enrolled in the school. And, no, they don’t take money for shul land, even though legally entitled. Satmar and other Yeshivos are similar to Brisk in this regard. As far as insurance, the individuals are liable to pay the taxes that covers the insurance costs and there is no reason for them to refuse what they are required to pay for.
May 10, 2012 2:46 pm at 2:46 pm in reply to: Having Respect for Your Elders, Kohanim and Rabbonim #898074shmoelMemberOr for any Talmid Chacham (even not a Rov), in fact. Like a 70 year old must give kovod to an 18 year old Talmid Chachom.
shmoelMemberWhy do inactive and retired Hatzala guys still have VAS plates or Hatzalah placards in their windshields, and park where it is otherwise illegal?
shmoelMemberDoes a gallon of CY cost the same as 2 half gallons or less than 2 halfs?
shmoelMemberIf you ever bought a gallon of CY milk — was the cost simply twice that of a half gallon container or was it less?
shmoelMemberIf there is a permanent issur then no one could reprint seforim once the author was niftar. How can anyone print, for example, the Aruch Hashulchan today? Also, I believe other shittos hold otherwise regarding seforim.
shmoelMemberHow can you listen to live wedding music if it is still part of your 33 days that year?
shmoelMemberIt signifies our inner desire to fulfil our mitzvah regarding Amaleikis.
Oy! Its too bad we don’t know who is an Amaleiki, unfortunately precluding us from fulfilling the mitzvah today!
May 10, 2012 3:33 am at 3:33 am in reply to: Words from an ex IDF solider for Yom HaZikaron #1163230shmoelMemberSam: How do you happen to run into all these kooky women? If you don’t think they’re kooks, address the rest of the question.
shmoelMemberZeesKite, if you’re playing the flute right now on the podium on 16 at 46, you’re doing a fabulous job.
shmoelMemberWhat if all the fat people were (coincidentally) assigned to one side while all the skinny people happened to be assigned to the other side. Will the plane tip?
May 10, 2012 1:19 am at 1:19 am in reply to: Listening to music on Lag Baomer… Is it only from the morning or even in the evening? #1076059shmoelMemberOthers hold differently, which is who their poskim are.
shmoelMemberSam: Why don’t you please briefly summarize it.
shmoelMemberAnd if your local Hatzalah ignores the concerns about the off-duty parking or driving priviliges that are being abused?
shmoelMemberNot everyone paskens like M”B.
May 9, 2012 11:50 pm at 11:50 pm in reply to: Discuss the (soon to be expiring) Tal Law Here #874370shmoelMemberThe Briskers prosper in Eretz Yisroel no thanks to a single zionist. They even refuse to accept a single shekel in government money that they are fully legally entitled to! They arrived there before the State ever existed and they will remain there long after the State ceases to exist.
Kastner is a mass murderer who has the blood of over half a million Jews on his bloody zionists hands. He deserves not an iota of thanks from anyone anymore than his friend and fellow nazi Adolff Eichmann, who Kastner helped in liquidating Hungarian Jewry to the gas chambers in Aushwitz. If anyone on the train, including the SR, owe any “thanks” to, it is to Adolf Eichmann who ordered the train and ensured its safe passage to Switzerland. Kaster ym’s was in no position to order a train or authorize its passage to leave nazi occupied territory. Eichmann ym’s had that ability and authorization and Eichmann is the one that ordered the train and authorized its departure. So “thank” Eichmann if you insist on thanking someone.
shmoelMemberThe gallon CY milk sold in the midwest costs twice the price of 2 half gallon containers, or it cost less (how much less?)
shmoelMemberBetter question: How can Chasunas be on both nights? Either the first night is lag bomer or the second night is. But both aren’t.
Also, if you hold the first 33 days of sefira, how can you attend weddings before rosh chodesh? (Or after lag bomer if you hold the last 33.)
shmoelMemberHello: Aren’t those mekoros giving only a time-limited, per rabbinic letter, protection for new seforim from being copied for sale by competitors? And is Rav Y.S. Eliashev of comparable stature? Also, as long as your posek holds it is zeh neneh vze lo chaser mutter, the other mekoros aren’t relevant when you’re simply following your posek.
shmoelMemberStolin and Veretzky have bonfires tonight, I think. There’s a big parade at 3 pm on 18 and 52.
shmoelMemberThe Briskers came to Eretz Yisroel PRE-STATE.
The Satmar Rebbe was saved by Adolff Eichmann who authorized a train to leave. Eichmann’s Jewish helper Kastner was a murderer himself who needed Eichmann for the train and all.
shmoelMemberIt seems that in Eretz Yisroel Chareidi families have, on average, about 11-13 children while in the United States and elsewhere in chutz l’aretz Chareidi families have, on average, about 8-9 kinderlach k’h.
shmoelMemberIncorrect. There is not a SINGLE reliable source for that lie, other than mainly the left-wing Torah-bashing blogs.
shmoelMemberRav Shteinman is 100% against any frum Jew joining the army.
shmoelMemberCan you negotiate a lower price for everything at all local stores (toys, clothing, food) or service (plumber, electrician)?
shmoelMemberIs this only for Shabbos or for everyday?
shmoelMemberakuperma can always be counted on to bring a dose of reality to the discussion.
May 4, 2012 1:36 pm at 1:36 pm in reply to: Vanishing posters. Who do you miss? Lets get them back #872660shmoelMemberI think everyone should be happy if a former poster no longer posts. That means they found something more productive to do with their time.
May 4, 2012 12:26 am at 12:26 am in reply to: Words from an ex IDF solider for Yom HaZikaron #1163188shmoelMemberSam2: Having feminist feelings, while very wrong, is probably not apikorsus. So a girl is probably subconciously doing it for feministic reasons without even realizing it.
