No. A woman’s status is called a “gerusha”, but a man has no equivelent status in halacha.
shmoelMembermommomia: Very simply that a wife cannot divorce her husband, under Jewish law.
shmoelMemberThe issue applies to a twice divorced woman. (See above.) Not a man who divorced two women. In fact, a man cannot be “divorced” under Jewish law.
shmoelMemberCertainly there is. See the maare makom cited by “avrah” above.
shmoelMemberHenry created the Anglician religion by breaking off the English branch of the Catholic Church and starting his own religion so he could do what he wanted.
shmoelMemberI would suggest that a twice divorced woman may have the same status as a twice widowed woman.
shmoelMemberBtw, Edward could legally marry a divorcee under Anglician law, but he was forced to abdicate because it was considered unbecoming for a King to marry a divorcee. Not that it was illegal.
So I’m still unsure how you are demonstrating that Anglician law didn’t allow for divorce until much after Henry’s times.
shmoelMemberWolf: Thank you.
Why couldn’t Henry obtain an annulment from Rome, considering canon law provides for annulment?
shmoelMemberakuperma: Why didn’t America allow divorce until the mid-19th century? Anglician law allowed divorce already from Henry’s times.

shmoelMemberMenucha: Other people are grossed out by interracial marriages.

shmoelMemberAnyone from a State that doesn’t perform marriages between first cousins, can simply visit another State that does allow it (i.e. New York State), get a marriage license from that State, and return home that same evening.
All 50 States will 100% absolutely recognize the marriage, including their home state.

Driving is a much much much greater risk of sakanos nefoshos — according to any statistics — than MBP.

September 27, 2012 7:04 pm at 7:04 pm in reply to: What's the going rate for a lulav and esrog in NY? #897913shmoelMemberThe Esrog’s mehudar worth is based upon defined halachic mehudardik attributes of the Esrog. Not what you pay for it. An Esrog bought for $10 could be worth far more than one paid $50 for.

And spiritual living is a lot more important than material living.

September 25, 2012 6:35 pm at 6:35 pm in reply to: please pass along; cars being TOWED from toys r us parking lot!! #1017341shmoelMemberIf you shop there, it isn’t “illegal” to park there – even if you subsequently walk out of the area. It is tresspasing. Though the fees charged by the towing company are unreasonably and unjustifiably high. What if they demanded $2,000 before they would agree to return your car? They can’t charge an unfair amout. And $200+ is thievery.
September 25, 2012 6:22 pm at 6:22 pm in reply to: NYC Board of Health Votes to Regulate Bris Milah #1096361shmoelMemberIt should be noted that about six years ago Tendler boasted in one of his YU courses that he reported a mohel to the government. YU put an audio of his course on its website, as it generally does for all those courses. After it became widely known, he quickly had YU delete that audio of his course with his incriminating statement. (By now copies of the audio is available online, outside of the YU site.)
I also strongly suspect he is responsible for being at least partially responsible for instigating the NYC DOHMH to initiate these proceedings this year that resulted in them regulating MBP.

September 12, 2012 7:26 pm at 7:26 pm in reply to: Circumstantial Evidence and Science in Jewish Law #896392shmoelMemberDNA is never 100% proof. Science admits there is (something like) a 1 in 100 million chance it belongs to someone else with an exact same dna sequence.
