you’re making too many assumptions rabbiofberlin. the cRc didn’t make this announcement to stir up trouble. there is a genuine concern here. until that is clarified, best to stay far away from starbucks if you value kashrus.
February 13, 2011 9:19 pm at 9:19 pm in reply to: Bain Adam L'chaveiro Vs. Bain Adam L'makom #740713shlishiMemberi used to drink in starbucks until i saw the cRc kashrus alert against starbucks last week. but i am careful in both inyanim, in any event.

very well said.

anyone is entitled to comment here. in fact, non divorcees are better able to comment, without confusing their personal biases from their scars. they can give a better judgement on this issue.
February 13, 2011 8:14 pm at 8:14 pm in reply to: Bain Adam L'chaveiro Vs. Bain Adam L'makom #740711shlishiMemberagain, the machmirim do not only go to extremes on bein adam l’makom. do not generalize. (and as pointed out, it is usually the reverse.)
shlishiMemberi didnt notice the wedding story saying he’s not a doctor or from the bronx. it says he’s something else? and even if so, why else hasnt charlie commented unless he is busy with sheva brochos.
shlishiMembermaybe he shaved for the chasuna at his kallah’s request?
February 13, 2011 5:56 pm at 5:56 pm in reply to: How often is Divorce the better option for the entire family? #739767shlishiMemberabusive marriages represent only a very small portion of divorces. i am in complete accordance with tbt. the vast majority of divorces are completely avoidable.
February 13, 2011 5:51 pm at 5:51 pm in reply to: Bain Adam L'chaveiro Vs. Bain Adam L'makom #740708shlishiMemberi never saw anyone here brag about themselves blocking driveways or double parking. can you kindly show which thread anyone allegedly bragged like that? and then show us where he or she was machmir on bein adom l’makom? (not that there is anything wrong to be machmir on bein adom l’makom.)
this is what i meant by people associating an individual (allegedly) doing something wrong with an entire group of people.
also, even though there are individuals who are negligent in bein adom l’chaveiro, i’ve never heard any group supporting violating bein adom l’chaveiro *b’shitta*. unfortunately, there are groups that are okay with violating bein adom l’makom b’shitta.
shlishiMemberpopa
who are you quoting? i dont see anyone saying that to you.
shlishiMemberthat’s a lot! how many days a week do you need her?

you are mixing up some issues. you are right that both bain adam l’makom and bain adam l’chaveiro are both important. but both of them apply to jews. that being said, it is also important to be nice to gentiles. but that is a separate issue, not directly related to bain adam l’chaveiro which doesnt apply to them. (although you may be correct in that if someone neglects bain adam l’chaveiro he will probably not be too nice to non-jews either.)
also, another issue i must take with your comment is that certain people make untrue allegations that people who defend bain adam l’makom are somehow negligent with bain adam l’chaveiro. this untruth may have rubbed off on you, so i hope you havent bought into it. like the other day i started a thread pointing out problems with starbucks, which is a bain adam l’makom issue. does that mean i am somehow negligent in bain adam l’chaveiro? no. but there are people who will find a bad apple and incorrectly apply it community-wide.
shlishiMemberalways here
if the machatanim wanted a fancier wedding, they should have been fully responsible for the difference in cost.
shlishiMemberlirayacha means yidden.
no agency certifies starbucks as kosher.
shlishiMembergirls are at least equally at fault, so let us not start blaming the men. usually both sides are at fault.
beside the point of who’s at fault for the divorce, it seems to me the girls are usually quicker to run for divorce, and that is sad since more times than not it is so unnecessary.
shlishiMemberit is a big shaila whether someone living in eretz yisroel is permitted to move out. also, many people who moved out have had things not turn out well.
shlishiMemberdan’s deals
shlishiMemberlomed
gentiles are not part of bein adam l’chaveiro.
also, what d’oraysa are you specifically referring to?
shlishiMemberits the cRc kashrus alert. did you even read it?? do you want to drink coffee from a coffee pot washed out together with the knives that cut the bacon sandwiches? that isnt kosher for me or you.
shlishiMemberhow can anyone drink from starbucks even now, knowing what we now know. even if more information if forthcoming, we already know there is a major problem. i dont see how its possible to drink there until and unless any further clarification indicates it is okay.
shlishiMemberjust delete the bad posts and leave the thread open, so those having a good conversation can continue.
shlishiMembermy brother in mtj says rav dovid does not eat cholov stam at all, and nor does his adult family. (he isnt sure about when they were young children.)
he isnt sure if rav dovid has his own opinion and disagrees with his father rav moshe, or if rav dovid holds like his father.
shlishiMembermamashtakah
no its not. you easily pass 50 people each way. if you were to greet every one of them, a) you would not be able to talk to your walking partner and b) you’d be out of breath by time you got to your destination. OOT you dont have this problem. its just the difference of the nature of things.
shlishiMemberhere is an older discussion of this issue, before the current alert (Feb. ’11) was issued regarding starbucks, by the crc.
http://www.crcweb.org/kosher_articles/popular_latte.php
feifun: what issue exactly did the ou ever say isnt a problem? i havent seen any assertion like that from them, that this issue with starbucks isnt a kashrus problem.
shlishiMemberi believe the coffee pots (that the hot coffee is in) as well as the milk containers need to be cleaned regularly, and when starucks cleans them, the cRc is saying, they clean them together with the treif utensils used on meat sandwiches.
shlishiMemberrabbiofberlin
and why do you assume that the maaris ayin aspect is less in starbucks than mcdonalds, if both serve treif hot meat sandwiches?
shmuel294
the point of the cRc is that starbucks coffee is NOT kosher.
shlishiMemberxenolexica
shlishiMembersince starbucks sells treif hot meat sandwiches, why should getting a coffee in starbucks be any different than getting coffee in mcdonalds?
shlishiMemberdoodle
we make at most 10 and recycle about 40.
shlishiMembermaybe its not as bad, but only in a sense, since there are less people on it, and therefore less predators or possibilities for immorality. but in essence i dont see any difference. especially once it grows larger.
shlishiMemberrezdy
people dont say it to opposite genders due to the gedorim.
and in NY you pass way too many people on the street on every walk to constantly greet everyone.
shlishiMemberwolfish
you can only complete the marriage paperwork AFTER the ceremony.
shlishiMemberpopa
dunno if you were serious (you said it was funny), but we recycle all the time. pass what we receive from one to others (sometimes with some slight mixing around.)
shlishiMemberdaas yochod: i think you are right in that if posts become inappropriate they should be deleted instead of closing the entire thread.

whos your rov and which gedol does he consult?
shlishiMemberapushatayid,
it doesnt matter if it is or isnt THE reason. it exacebrates the reason(s) and makes it worse, when such forbidden behavior is prevalent.
shlishiMemberm in Israel: very eloquently stated!
the goyim do not have any reasonable taanos, plus like you pointed out, you dont even hear goyim complaining that there are too many Jews on food stamps or welfare.
shlishiMemberthats because in NY you pass 50+ people on the way to shul, and its not practical to say gut shabbos 50+ times each way without losing your voice and breath while having a conversation with the person walking with you also. ive noticed that when people say it to opposite genders, frequently those people are saying it only to opposite genders. try figuring out why.
shlishiMemberyaff80: lack of tznius is one of the MAJOR reasons for shalom bayis problems. this is as on subject as you can get.
shlishiMemberhealth, it isn’t even unethical to receive food stamps if you technically qualify under the legal guidelines that determine eligibility, even if your parents are Rockefeller but you are an adult child who has no income. as long as he honestly answered all the questions on the food stamps application and they approved it correctly, that is all that determines its ethics. and im talking in general, not about kollel people or any specific subgroup. (kollel people actually do not live in the lap of luxury.)
shlishiMember“living off a government charity is a poshute, universal ta’ana.”
mdd: if its really such “a poshute, universal ta’ana”, i guess you have taainos against those living on tzedaka! most of us, i think, do not, have any such taainos. i even think one is allowed to take tzedaka in order to learn…
shlishiMembermust one be heimish to be a balibatish balabuste?
shlishiMember“Implicit was the suggestion that men are more likely to find a woman attractive if she is dressed inappropriately.”
that is pretty explicit i would think. if someone is dressed inappropriately of course many men will notice. isnt that the reason women arent supposed to dress inappropriately?
shlishiMemberpopa. the implication of what you said is that you would have her )!dress inappropriately (since that would allegedly help her marriage
shlishiMemberon imamother we had this discussion last year. a bunch of people said the same thing about rav chaim. one person wrote the following:
Just had bil ask Reb Chaim Kanevsky about the name Shira.
He did not say it’s not a name, he made a joke that when someone told him that dd was born Shabbos Shira and they would like to name her Shira. His answer was: “and if she was born on Shabbos Parah-would you name her parah?!
His exact answer was:” Are we missing nashim tzkanios to name after-name the baby Avigail” when my bil said :”and if they really want to name Shira?” He said “Efshar” (meaning you can)

if you google the first line, you’ll find that post.
shlishiMembermbachur: you’re being called an old geezer. old people sometimes say age if only a number when they dont wanna tell people how old they are.
shlishiMemberi dont know what the big deal about this is, but i guess it doesnt hurt to have one…
February 4, 2011 9:36 pm at 9:36 pm in reply to: Visiting relatives = top secret ATTN: METRODRIVER #736715shlishiMemberim sure you two created this thread for the fun of it more than anything else…
shlishiMemberbut they DONT have legitimite taainos, if the law allows them to qualify for the benefits. do they have taainos on college students who qualify? nope. and like someone said, learning Torah is an education towards working as a teacher, rabbi, author, religious worker, etc. etc. (and even if that wouldnt have been the case, they would legally qualify and no one can have a legitimate taaina.)
shlishiMemberA lot less frum Jews (percentage wise) in NY and in Lakewood take food stamps than blacks and less than hispanics across the entire USA. So if anything, it is a kiddush Hashem. Many whites, blacks and hispanics factor food stamps into their equation on how to make a living.
