Weiss’ current and active membership in the RCA requires explaining.
And there is no good explanation.
shlishiMemberI and the modern orthodox are very close. And we are very far from these clowns.
Why do the MO tolerate Weiss and welcome him into their rabbinic council, the RCA?
shlishiMemberRabbi Vinas is controversial as he proselytizes Christians to become Jews.
shlishiMemberHe probably went to rabbis not known for being the most welcoming towards gerim.
Jewish law insists that we not be too welcoming of gentiles asking to convert.
shlishiMemberand she can stop waiving it.
That depends on what they agreed to in advance. If she agreed that he can learn for 7 years, 5 years in she can’t renege as she already agreed to a longer period.

1. You haven’t responded to my last comment. Can you address the points I raised?
2. I just noticed this comment you made 6 months ago, on the below thread, saying you aren’t a member of Hatzalah since you were denied membership. What changed, as you now indicate you are a member?

shlishiMemberSo are most of the patients.
(Hmm, I wonder why.)
November 16, 2012 8:19 pm at 8:19 pm in reply to: VAS License Plates on a Non-Emergency Vehicle #1031334shlishiMemberTry by documenting it, such as a photo. Then submit a claim. If it was an abuse, they will make note of it. The last thing hatzoloh needs is negative publicity.
Will H really do anything if a member of the public documents abuse and presents it to them? And how can it be submitted to H?
Further more, if the member has parked illegally, and does not have authorization to do so. Hatzoloh ,ought not act. Since the member really as no privileges and is only hoping that an officer will not ticket him.
Similar to EMT plates, which anyone with EMT license can easily obtain. It might help against getting a ticket, and some people even take the risk. So I don’t think that it’s hatzolohs business what risks this member takes.
I think you are wrong on this point. Because a H member with VAS plates and a H parking placard in his windshield is not simply like a driver in the general public who illegally parks in a No Parking zone. A regular member of the public will in all likelihood get a ticket if he is parked illegally for an extended period of time. A H member will in all likelihood not get a ticket, due to his VAS plates and/or H placard in his windshield. The meter maids or cops don’t realize the parked H car is not on call. And the H member is indeed committing abuse since he is parking illegally with the idea that his H membership probably will save him from a ticket. So he in fact is utilizing his H membership in commission of his illegal parking.
Also, if the abuse is driving illegally (as opposed to parking) while not on call, it is almost impossible to document it with photographs.
November 16, 2012 5:24 pm at 5:24 pm in reply to: VAS License Plates on a Non-Emergency Vehicle #1031331shlishiMemberGuys, please put all the bickering and quibbling behind and get back on topic here.
How can we get H to strip abusive members who park in No Parking zones when not on call or drive through lights or against traffic laws when not on call, from their Parking Placard privileges and potentially membership in the organization altogether?
shlishiMemberDaMoshe: How, then, is advertising so succesful? The vast majority of ads are simply “we are THE BEST”. And it works. Companies spend multi-trillion dollars a year in advertising. And people buy it.
shlishiMemberI wonder why people have so much extra clothing that is in used but excellent condition as it was “barely used”. Do people buy clothing for one-time use? Really? Are these people with money to burn?
shlishiMemberRH: Suppose a 16 year old did go. Do you dispute that she is still forbidden to be touched by anyone?
shlishiMemberThe guy that runs the “unskwered polls” site you referenced earlier above, has come out and publicly admitted he was wrong.
shlishiMemberRH: Why should it be different between an 8 year old and a 16 year old (who went to the mikva)? Are you suggesting that it is okay for anyone to touch the 16 year old girl?
shlishiMemberIt’s plausible, but I’m not convinced. I have to give him more credit than I did before the election. Beforehand, he only had one election behind him (2008) and while he predicted very good, everyone gets lucky sometimes. But two back-to-back with such accuracy has me reevaluating his skills. Truth be told, he is a statistician by background.
shlishiMemberHow do you suppose he got all 50 States called correctly? (And 49 out of 50 in 2008.) That’s pretty impressive.
The odds of flipping a coin 50 times after correctly (and randomly) predicting whether it will be heads or tails every one of the 50 times is, mathematically, exceedingly slim.
November 8, 2012 4:02 pm at 4:02 pm in reply to: Boro Park / Flatbush / Kensington / Benzenhurst #907116shlishiMemberI would describe all four of these neighborhoods as being one big happy community.
shlishiMemberRavHamachshir: Your point would indicate that you believe it permissible for men to touch girls (anytime he isn’t davening). This is clearly incorrect. (Shomer Negiah.)
shlishiMemberSam2: Reading your two comments here, it seems you are under the impression that men may touch girls until they reach puberty even though they may not even look at the upper arms or legs of the same girl over age 3 (per the Chofetz Chaim) or 6 (per the Chazon Ish).
That would be counterintuitive, wouldn’t it.
shlishiMemberNate Silver is getting a lot of press lauding today for getting all 50 states called correctly. In 2008 he got 49 out of 50 correct.
shlishiMemberuneeq: Looks like the polls were dead on right and weren’t as skewered as thought.
shlishiMemberuneeq: Forget Nate Silver. I agree he is a whackjob in Obama’s pocket. He isn’t even a pollster. He just compiles other’s polls.
My question to you still is which polls ARE skewed and which AREN’T?
Polls have a strong track record, going back half a century, of being remarkedly accurate.
And the overwhelming majority of the final polls today are showing Obama ahead. Especially the battleground state polls.
shlishiMemberSecret Service doesn’t let her get near him.
shlishiMemberkfb: You’re allowed to touch 11 year old girls?!? Absolutely not.
shlishiMemberuneeq: Which polls are skewed and which are unskewed? From what I can tell, almost all the new battleground state polls coming out over this final weekend is looking bad for Romney.
shlishiMemberzsdad: You don’t know what you are talking about. Besides disregarding all the other organizations, Oorah in fact does do outreach directly — and in fact that is their primary activity. Additionally, they have camps for boys and girls (separate, obviously; lemme guess, your next rant will be about how some teens just hate non-coed camps), holiday programs, seminars, and all other sorts of help for at-risk children.
shlishiMemberThere are MANY Chareidi organizations doing all of that. Right off the top of my head, without even thinking into how many I can come up with, there is Project YES, Oorah, Chabad, Priority-1, etc. Additionally, there are so many Yeshivas just in the Metro area alone that specialize in helping at-risk children.
shlishiMemberThe polling is generally accurate. While the national polls are showing a virtual tie, the battleground states polls are mostly all showing Obama ahead. And the battleground states are what is going to determine the election.
shlishiMemberzsdad:
1) Extremely few Chareidim know of that apikorus/rasha organization that tries to convert Jews away from Judaism. (The one that is being discussed here unnamed.)
2) Chareidim not only admit there is a problem, but have many many extensive organizations to combat OTD. What are the MO doing about their much larger problem with it and what MO organizations combat OTD and and try to bring their brethren back into the fold?

shlishiMemberMSS: Rabbi Pruzansky has a lot more experience in dealing with the MO OTD crisis than you will ever have, with his large MO congregation. If he put the number at 50%, that is something he would know of from dealing with it. He wouldn’t publicize a percentage unless it bore out or at least correlates from what he was seeing firsthand in his own large community that he ministers.
And I can advise you from my own experience dealing with otd fellows in the yeshivish and chasidish communities that the percentage there is not even a drop in the bucket compared to what Rabbi Pruzansky is relating. By us we are easily dealing in the low single-digits.
October 31, 2012 4:30 pm at 4:30 pm in reply to: Heartwarming, inspiring stories of Jewish community #1023300shlishiMemberYour comment is not correct at all. But in any event, Israel, America and the UK make up the bulk of worldwide frum Jewry.
October 31, 2012 4:01 pm at 4:01 pm in reply to: Heartwarming, inspiring stories of Jewish community #1023298shlishiMemberI second nishtdayngesheft. It is truly hearwarming and demonstrates total achdus when communicating with Gedolei Yisroel and common Yidden as well from all over the world, all speaking different native tongues, in the common language of Yiddish. It makes ones Jewish heart swell with pride and Yiddishe nachas.
shlishiMemberFixed That For You.
(Thank you, Google.)
shlishiMemberpopa is correct. Rabbi Kaminetzky specifically said he does NOT want the book to be distributed in any fashion whatsoever, in deference to the wishes of the Gedolim who asked it not be distributed. The author directly said as much. He also indicated he was against its electronic distribution.
shlishiMemberMSS: You are seriously basing your observation based upon anonymous web postings??? Forget about your attributions to authors backgrounds based upon their writing style, but the very idea of thinking you can get even a rough idea of the demographics based on postings from OTD websites is preposterous. Only a very small percentage of OTD people post on those crazy sites. And they are very far from being representative.
I stand by my observations.
shlishiMemberWhy would you guess it to be higher than 1%? And why do you think some who only appear to have left Chasidus actually left Yiddishkeit altogether?
I believe the Yeshivish OTD rate is slightly higher than the Chasidish rate, but also not much more than 1%.
shlishiMemberThere is only anecdotal evidence, but from much first-hand experience, I’d estimate it to be in the ballpark of 1%. (If by OTD you mean no longer frum as opposed to going from one Chasidus to another; becoming a Litvak; or getting lax in some mitzvos.)
shlishiMemberThere is no shidduch crisis.

Sponsoring the dowry would help.
If the girls dowry is sponsored it would help the individual girl. But it wouldn’t enable a larger number of girls to get married.
shlishiMembermomma: Your recipe for disaster would have wives demanding divorces when their husbands can’t afford the jewelry they expect. These pathetic reasons for divorce are all too common and must be put an end to.
One: Burning his supper merely gives him grounds if he chose to exercise it. He could just as easily let it pass. (Should he so choose.)
shlishiMemberYou complained of husbands who “work for years on end in dead end jobs that don’t bring home sufficient income to cover basic needs despite the wife working also. Men who independently choose to stay in their beloved carreer because they’re convinced that despite a decade or more of struggle and tears that their next dollar is just around the corner.”
That is not divorcable grounds. He is entitled to make that decision and if he chooses to continue working there, that is his decision whether she agrees with it or otherwise. She has to live with it.
shlishiMemberNot making enough money is no grounds for a Get. Regardless if the spouse feels he could or should do better.
shlishiMemberSyag: Very few mixed seating affairs do what you describe.
shlishiMemberWhat are the differences between the brachos between the birth of a boy and that of a girl? The boy’s brocho indicates a larger simcha from what I recall?
shlishiMemberTake a sedative before going on the date.
shlishiMemberyitayningwut: There is still the Rambam in Hilchos Ishus 15:20 that was cited earlier as Halacha.
[as an obligation from the wife] than you suggest above. (See the other thread linked above.)
shlishiMemberLike much else, the Christian and Muslim world took much of their morals from us, ostensibly. Of course they hardly keep what they purport to, but that is another point entirely. Yes, this point of the wife’s obligation to obey her husband also, essentially, comes from the Torah. See this thread from a more in-depth view with Torah sources demonstrating such:
It essentially comes from Bereishis 3:16 (????? ???????? ????????????? ?????? ???????? ?????:), Bereishis 18:12 (???????? ?????:) and is cited as Halacha by the Rambam, Hilchos Ishus 15:20 (??? ??? ?? ???? ????? ????? ?? ???? ????? ???? ????? ???? ???? ???? ????? ?? ????? ?? ???. ????? ?????? ??? ?? ?? ??? ????? ????? ??? ?????? ?? ?? ?????. ??? ??? ???? ????? ???? ????? ??????? ???????? ???????. ??????? ??? ???? ????? ??? ??????:) and many other sources.
