There is no difference between the “right-wing”/Likud and the “left-wing”/Labor parties in Israel on social issues, as far as the Torah community is concerned. They are both the same junk.

September 11, 2012 8:06 pm at 8:06 pm in reply to: Sanz-Klausenberg Rebbe Speaks Out Forcefully Against NYC Health Department #896801sheinMemberJewish Week just posted a story that Agudas Yisroel of America is going to sue the Bloomberg Administration in court if the Health Dept. passes a consent form on MBP.
sheinMemberSam: Why is it a halachic problem for a younger guy to charge the same rate as an older guy?
September 11, 2012 2:56 pm at 2:56 pm in reply to: Sanz-Klausenberg Rebbe Speaks Out Forcefully Against NYC Health Department #896800sheinMemberThe gedolei rabbonim shlita already advised the mohelim and parents to disregard the upcoming NYC health dept. regulation on bris milah.

sheinMemberWhat does “unofficially engaged” mean?
sheinMemberDoesn’t the name or family go back (i.e. in known history) hundreds or even a thousand of years in Ashkenazic Jewish history?

Really? If we would, b’achdus, have a big party with mixed dancing and pritzus’dik people — all b’achdus — it would be “a good thing”?
sheinMemberHow nice?
sheinMemberA “U” in an “O” (i.e. a circle), is the kosher symbol for the Orthodox Union, the largest (by far) kosher cerifying agency in the United States. That symbol on a food product, indicates the product is kosher. The “P” next to the O-U symbol means the food product is not just kosher all-year round, but it is even Kosher-for-Passover use. (The 8 days of Passover has much more stringent kosher requirements.)
The “pareve” designation indicates it has no dairy or meat in the food product (and this can be consumed with either dairy or meat products.)
sheinMemberHow upscale is the neighborhood? How rich is the family?
sheinMemberThat’s the obvious (and correct) reaction to such a misguided situation. So what’s the chiddush here?

sheinMemberaurora: Yes, it is very common to go to 12:45 AM selichos, on the first day of selichos. (Generally, only the first day.) In my city, there are hundreds of such minyanim.
And, no, women do not go to a minyan for selichos and usually don’t say it altogether.
sheinMemberActions do not determine rishus. Rishus is determined by a mindset.
Actions DO determine rishus.
September 7, 2012 7:35 pm at 7:35 pm in reply to: Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman tells Yidden to shun secular education #895831sheinMemberrob: That’s exactly my point. The Chasidim work without much of a secular education. And Chasidim are, B”H, no less poor than the Yeshivish oilem. So, actually, Chasidim are a good proof for not needing a secular education.
September 7, 2012 10:40 am at 10:40 am in reply to: Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman tells Yidden to shun secular education #895825sheinMemberMay I point out that the chassidische rebbes, by and large, counsel their chassidim to have a job.
I agree with rob! We should all follow the example of the Chasidim. They rarely go to college and even their elementary and high school secular studies programs are very minimal.
This would make Rav Shteinman and Rav Moshe very happy I think.

It belongs to his parents, who can enter into a contract. Thus it can be confiscated per the parents contractual agreement with the school.
(Or am I mistaken about all of a katan’s objects are his parents property?)

sheinMemberRabbonim have the right to make takanos upon the kehilla.

That should be good enough for anyone.
September 5, 2012 5:08 pm at 5:08 pm in reply to: What Food Item Would You Like To See Get A Hecsher? #895464sheinMemberUmm, how would anyone know what non-kosher product they would like to become kosher — unless they previously tried the treif products??
sheinMemberrob: If a Tanna or Amora’s vision wasn’t at par, surely he would ask someone else with good vision to check rather than rely on his own subpar vision.
sheinMemberThe working suspicion is that someone who has immediate and private access to these horrible sites, is liable to be suspected as possible having visited these forbidden sites.
sheinMemberIf an eid is pasul he cannot be an eid for kiddushin.
And I’m sure he told him quietly and privately. That it is in the media is likely because he told someone what happened to him privately, and from there it spread. (And still none of the reports indicate who it happened to.)
The iphone has the capability to instantly and privately go to all strictly halachicly forbidden sites. And in Eretz Yisroel they have long been makpid to make sure the kehilla members do not have such a powerfully destructive device always on their belts.
sheinMemberIt was the right thing to do.
sheinMemberSpray your aunts with some RAID.
That’ll be the last of them.
September 3, 2012 1:20 pm at 1:20 pm in reply to: What Food Item Would You Like To See Get A Hecsher? #895456sheinMemberWhat does “certain rabbonim” mean? That others disapprove? That it isn’t the known reliable hechsheirim?
sheinMemberDefinitely avoid those anti-religious anti-Judaism YIVO and their ilk and those forbidden movies. They will not only not teach you Yiddish, but rather they will indoctrinate you with their anti-religious ideals. And what they teach is a dead dialect that no real people even use in real conversations, as opposed to the living Yiddish lived by hundreds of thousands of real, living, Torah Jews throughout the world (North America, South America, Europe and of course Israel.)
The only way to learn Yiddish, is to live it. Live it with those living Yiddish, not those dying anti-religious breeds. Definitely spend time in a frum Jewish neighborhood where Yiddish is the first or second language of the frum Jews. And read Torah true Yiddish books. Frum Yiddish books written for children can be very helpful in learning the language. And send your children (when you have) to Yiddish speaking Yeshivos and Beis Yaakovs.

sheinMemberSam: Also, am I correct in recalling that if a Yid regrets doing a mitzvah, he doesn’t lose it; whereas a Goy does lose it due to regret?
sheinMemberThank you.
sheinMemberI didn’t comment about their being more machmir.
sheinMemberI thought the rule was by a Yid who didn’t want to do a mitzvah (but did it), it is still a mitzvah. By a goy, not.

sheinMemberMoving to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York will probably do the trick fastest.
Another quick way to do it, is to marry a Yiddish speaking husband. 🙂
sheinMemberThank you, mischiefmaker.
You’ve said all that needs to be said about this issue.
sheinMemberapy: If he shouldn’t have been on there in the first place (and he shouldn’t have) and if he shouldn’t have sung the pruste songs he sung (and he shouldn’t have), that ends the discussion. It is entirely meaningless and irrelevant that “millions of non jewish viewers were impressed”. It is still a massive Chillel Shem Shamayim. Just as if he would have “impressed millions of non jewish viewers” by undergoing a baptism.
sheinMemberYou have a Brooklyn contingent in almost any frum Jewish community in the U.S.
