OK, how about an objective discussion.
On the one hand, you only make a beracha shecholak mechevodo l’basar v’dam with Shem and Malchus on seeing a non-Jewish king who has the power to execute.
On the other hand, the US President – as Commander in Chief – has the power to unilaterally approve the killing of enemy combatants. This President (and most of his predecessors) has exercised that power.
Those are the facts. How about a rational, objective, non-political discussion of the Hallacha?
shazamParticipantSwine Flu is totally overblown.
Look at the World Health Organization (http://www.who.int/csr/don/en/) and the US Center for Disease Control (http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/). Look at CONFIRMED cases, not suspected/maybe/symptoms, etc. It seems like any time someone sniffles, they’re automatically tagged as a “confirmed” case.
As of April 30, 2009, 10:30 AM EDT, there were 109 confirmed cases in the US, including one fatality. As of As of 18:00 GMT, 29 April 2009 (updated for the more recent US figures), there were a total of 166 confirmed cases ON EARTH, including 8 fatalities.
Typically, 36,000 people die EVERY YEAR of the flu.
Swine flu is NOT a pandemic. And yes, we ARE overreacting. Big time. Just look at the stupid Egyptian government.

While he doesn’t say it explicitly, it seems the Ma’or VaShemesh implies that Case #3 is when both the king and his advisers are evil.
shazamParticipantI voted weeks ago, by absentee ballot.
