Oh, I see now. I left out the word excessive. They’re associated with EXCESSIVE drug overdose and instability. More so than others.
August 26, 2013 8:00 pm at 8:00 pm in reply to: For the Jewish Metalhead (I know you're out there). #1023440sharpMemberLet’s not throw stones when we ourselves live in a glass house. Talk to a pharmacist in a “heimshe” neighboorhood and see how many anti depressant perscriptions are being filled.
Crisis, I wasn’t throwing stones. I think you’re taking my post out of context, like you did with my previous post. How are you comparing taking anti-depressants to the heavy metal culture and ideology? Please.
To be an all out metal head is to be totally preoccupied with heavy metal music. I think it’s sad. You don’t have to agree with me. It’s sad because of what the ideology stands for.
Yes, they have talent, and yes, I’m sure there are plenty people on anti-depressants. And, so? It’s still sad.
August 26, 2013 4:57 pm at 4:57 pm in reply to: For the Jewish Metalhead (I know you're out there). #1023438sharpMemberCrisis, when metal grew in the 1970’s, they were very successful. True, but there was an element of hilarity that was associated with that success. The bands back then were known for their musical illiteracy and mind-blowing stupidity.
A turning point in the 1980’s occurred when bands switched to more traditional sing along type of songs.
I didn’t imply that these people don’t know how to play, they do. But because they were known to be that way in their early days, this reputation kinda stuck to them. Albeit often undeserved.
And to be an all out “metal head” is really sad. The metal ideology and culture is so morbid, some (or most) of these players / singers are associated with drug overdose and psychological and personal instability. It’s just so sad. More so with heavy metal than with any other genre.
But of course, these are two separate arguments.
August 26, 2013 4:55 pm at 4:55 pm in reply to: For the Jewish Metalhead (I know you're out there). #1023437sharpMemberThis name is already taken: EXACTLY what I meant originally.
sharpMemberSorry I don’t have any suggestions for you. However, I do have a word of advice for you: Don’t take rides with people you don’t know.
August 25, 2013 9:45 pm at 9:45 pm in reply to: For the Jewish Metalhead (I know you're out there). #1023429sharpMemberI also agree with this name is already taken. These genres are by definition not Jewish so I seriously doubt you’d find a Jewish group. I don’t mean to lecture you but I’m a bit surprised that you’re actually a metal/ hard rock/ punk rock fan. (Not to be confused with rock). I’m surprised because you seem to be more sensible than that. I personally think these genres are for the musically illiterate. That’s just my opinion, I don’t mean to judge.
August 25, 2013 8:12 pm at 8:12 pm in reply to: For the Jewish Metalhead (I know you're out there). #1023425sharpMemberBurnt Steak, I think you are mixing up Hard Rock with metal.
sharpMemberThank you thank you thank you. I can’t believe my long awaited certificate is finally here. Thank you so much.
And of course I’d love to help out. Let me know what my options are and I’ll take my pick.
August 25, 2013 7:00 pm at 7:00 pm in reply to: For the Jewish Metalhead (I know you're out there). #1023423sharpMemberMetal music is just noises and alot of screaming
I think you’re referring to heavy metal.
sharpMemberThumbthrough, I’m not familiar with the shuls there. I know there are quite a few. There’s also a Young Israel there I think on Yellowstone Blvd. I was a bit familiar with the neighborhood at one point and from your post, it seemed like it might work for you. There’s a BT community there and the rest are really not judgemental.
But of course you’ll need to look into it and not just take my word for it.
There’s also subway stops there and it’s minutes from Brooklyn.
sharpMemberYou might want to look into Forest Hills, Queens. That may work.
sharpMemberIf you want to stick to NY, look at Park Slope in Brooklyn.
Park Slope in Brooklyn has a dying Jewish Community.
sharpMemberTsfat. And make sure to check out those art galleries while you’re there.
The Dead Sea
sharpMemberA hearty welcome to Bookworm120.
How do you like your coffee?
sharpMemberThanks shopping, I’m waiting patiently 😉
sharpMemberLace on Kittels
Would pair nicely with the four inch stilettos.
sharpMemberIf anyone would ever suggest to me that she was being punished by Hashem because she was not shomer shabbos or for some other aveira, I would ask them when Hashem last Revealed Himself to them. I would also be extremely appalled.
There’s no such thing as N’vuah today so comments like these are often a sign of mental illness.
sharpMemberThanks from sharp.
You mods rock! Your hard work, patience and all around attitude is awesome and greatly appreciated!!
Go mods!
sharpMemberBeautiful attitude. Amazing strength.
Hope you find your bashert soon.
sharpMemberCorrection: I meant BEFORE not unless.
Before they truly realize, etc etc….
sharpMemberpopa_bar_abba
And never ever ever wash it with soap.
Does this apply to a seasoned wok also?
sharpMemberYikes. Hatred or mistrust of women. Rap music is full of it. Ad nauseum.
sharpMemberIn response to the title of this thread.
It’s very hard or maybe even impossible to forgive someone, unless they truly realize that they did something wrong. They also must first understand and recognize the damage that they caused.
And then, they also have to ask forgiveness.
sharpMemberNice work eclipse.
To qualify for rap though, you’ll need to do a lot more complaining. Lol. Rap music is a whole bunch of complaints written in a certain style. It also doesn’t necessarily have to rhyme. Oh and a generous sprinkle of misogyny thrown in for good measure.
Your poem is too cheerful to even be mistaken for rap. BH.
sharpMemberGoq,
Happy birthday! Hope you have a fantastic year and many more.
August 19, 2013 5:08 am at 5:08 am in reply to: Warning teachers about there future students #971199sharpMemberI had a frightening thought before.
Since teachers are human and do make mistakes sometimes, imagine a case where a teacher read a student wrong all year and treated him/her according to that. And then goes on to give the next teacher a “report” to help out. The poor student doesn’t stand a chance and gets the same wrong treatment again for another full year and nobody can figure out why they can’t connect to this student. Said student struggles for no good reason.
But that’s of course besides the point….
I say, a new year, a new chance.
August 19, 2013 3:34 am at 3:34 am in reply to: Warning teachers about there future students #971197sharpMemberBoro Park Girl:
During The first few crucial days of school, a good teacher will give ALL students an equal amount of extra attention.
After that, a really great teacher would have already figured out on their own how to deal with whom. I.e. who she needs to be a bit firm with, or where she needs to be soft, and who can use a bit of tlc, and where to turn a blind eye, etc… If a teacher can’t figure out that much on her/his own, then A, s/he probably shouldn’t be teaching in the first place. And B, all the prep in the world will do more harm than good, which brings us back to A.
August 19, 2013 2:20 am at 2:20 am in reply to: Warning teachers about there future students #971192sharpMemberI agree with both of you, superme and eclipse. I feel very strongly about this too. I think it should be illegal. Seriously!
(Except of course in an extreme case or urgent matter.)
sharpMemberChampagne.
(not)August 18, 2013 2:36 am at 2:36 am in reply to: Who would you elect as the Rabbi(s) of Coffeetown? #971361sharpMember42 lolololol
sharpMemberJust looked up this corey fella. I’m not, but i’m wondering if thats also a backhanded compliment of sorts. And how am i supposed to get you a slurpee. NOT SUBTLE QUESTION
Tell me you had to actually “look it up” to know whether you are or aren’t. Hmmm…..
sharpMemberWe need to get this race going.
I have two very qualified and capable individuals that I’d like to nominate as mayor.
1) Syag Lchochma
2) popa_bar_abba

Lololol
sharpMemberDaasYochid, this brings us to a whole new election. For Rabbonim of Coffeetown.
I hereby nominate DaasYochid, Sam2 and yitayningwut as the Vaad Harabbonim of Coffeetown.
And this gives me an idea…
sharpMemberI think I have heard of Sefardim using the name “Mashiach” as a surname.
sharpMemberSure. Forgiven and forgotten.
So can I join suc? 😉
(Although I don’t think we ever rubbed the wrong way.)
sharpMemberNigritude Ultramarine:
I think the term is more like “relent” than regret.
(As in become less severe, or forgiving)
sharpMemberI think it’s called being humble.
sharpMemberOh, I like the idea of a letter here. It will allow you to express yourself uninterrupted. And it’s something your parents can hold onto and read again and again.
Good luck.

August 12, 2013 2:55 am at 2:55 am in reply to: What to do for dinner when your wife is upstate in the Catskills #970339sharpMemberBump
Just because.
sharpMemberChochom-ibber,
Enjoying Shabbos and maintaining a healthy diet is not a contradiction. On the contrary. An individual who makes an effort to maintain healthy eating habits throughout the week and loses it on Shabbos may become really upset.
Additionally, if you gain even only 2 pounds on Shabbos, you’re busy trying to knock off those 2 pounds all week and get stuck on the same 2 pounds over and over again.
sharpMemberNo
sharpMemberPatience, personality, humility, a love for teaching and appreciation of kids.
August 8, 2013 6:44 pm at 6:44 pm in reply to: Should kids have locks on their bedroom doors? #1002532sharpMemberYes, those knobs that have the push buttons are very good for this purpose. Can be locked when someone is inside, but does not stay locked when they leave.
sharpMemberThe-art, you might want to tell him first. Just to be fair.
Eclipse, in this case, this guy could’ve told you the same thing without an analysis.
sharpMemberOh wow. That is very interesting. Thanks for the vort, BaalHabooze.
July 15, 2013 5:38 am at 5:38 am in reply to: Which is better: a bad chavrusa or no chavrusa? #966331sharpMemberThis chavrusa is not necessarily bad. Sometimes it’s only a matter of finding the right one. Or switching techniques with the one you have.
sharpMemberRebdoniel she wasn’t talking about your reply.
sharpMemberThis has got to be one of the funniest threads ever, if you read all posts here carefully. Reminds me of the Dor Haflaga and their Migdal.
Not Nogeiah who- you got some great suggestions from WIY and Rebdoniel.
All I have to add to that is bowling and shopping. Enjoy!
