Oh, I see now. I left out the word excessive. They’re associated with EXCESSIVE drug overdose and instability. More so than others.

Let’s not throw stones when we ourselves live in a glass house. Talk to a pharmacist in a “heimshe” neighboorhood and see how many anti depressant perscriptions are being filled.

Crisis, I wasn’t throwing stones. I think you’re taking my post out of context, like you did with my previous post. How are you comparing taking anti-depressants to the heavy metal culture and ideology? Please.

To be an all out metal head is to be totally preoccupied with heavy metal music. I think it’s sad. You don’t have to agree with me. It’s sad because of what the ideology stands for.

Yes, they have talent, and yes, I’m sure there are plenty people on anti-depressants. And, so? It’s still sad.

Crisis, when metal grew in the 1970’s, they were very successful. True, but there was an element of hilarity that was associated with that success. The bands back then were known for their musical illiteracy and mind-blowing stupidity.

A turning point in the 1980’s occurred when bands switched to more traditional sing along type of songs.

I didn’t imply that these people don’t know how to play, they do. But because they were known to be that way in their early days, this reputation kinda stuck to them. Albeit often undeserved.

And to be an all out “metal head” is really sad. The metal ideology and culture is so morbid, some (or most) of these players / singers are associated with drug overdose and psychological and personal instability. It’s just so sad. More so with heavy metal than with any other genre.

But of course, these are two separate arguments.

I also agree with this name is already taken. These genres are by definition not Jewish so I seriously doubt you’d find a Jewish group. I don’t mean to lecture you but I’m a bit surprised that you’re actually a metal/ hard rock/ punk rock fan. (Not to be confused with rock). I’m surprised because you seem to be more sensible than that. I personally think these genres are for the musically illiterate. That’s just my opinion, I don’t mean to judge.

Thumbthrough, I’m not familiar with the shuls there. I know there are quite a few. There’s also a Young Israel there I think on Yellowstone Blvd. I was a bit familiar with the neighborhood at one point and from your post, it seemed like it might work for you. There’s a BT community there and the rest are really not judgemental.

But of course you’ll need to look into it and not just take my word for it.

There’s also subway stops there and it’s minutes from Brooklyn.

If anyone would ever suggest to me that she was being punished by Hashem because she was not shomer shabbos or for some other aveira, I would ask them when Hashem last Revealed Himself to them. I would also be extremely appalled.

There’s no such thing as N’vuah today so comments like these are often a sign of mental illness.

In response to the title of this thread.

It’s very hard or maybe even impossible to forgive someone, unless they truly realize that they did something wrong. They also must first understand and recognize the damage that they caused.

And then, they also have to ask forgiveness.

    Nice work eclipse.

To qualify for rap though, you’ll need to do a lot more complaining. Lol. Rap music is a whole bunch of complaints written in a certain style. It also doesn’t necessarily have to rhyme. Oh and a generous sprinkle of misogyny thrown in for good measure.

Your poem is too cheerful to even be mistaken for rap. BH.

I had a frightening thought before.

Since teachers are human and do make mistakes sometimes, imagine a case where a teacher read a student wrong all year and treated him/her according to that. And then goes on to give the next teacher a “report” to help out. The poor student doesn’t stand a chance and gets the same wrong treatment again for another full year and nobody can figure out why they can’t connect to this student. Said student struggles for no good reason.

But that’s of course besides the point….

I say, a new year, a new chance.

    Boro Park Girl:

During The first few crucial days of school, a good teacher will give ALL students an equal amount of extra attention.

After that, a really great teacher would have already figured out on their own how to deal with whom. I.e. who she needs to be a bit firm with, or where she needs to be soft, and who can use a bit of tlc, and where to turn a blind eye, etc… If a teacher can’t figure out that much on her/his own, then A, s/he probably shouldn’t be teaching in the first place. And B, all the prep in the world will do more harm than good, which brings us back to A.

    Chochom-ibber,

Enjoying Shabbos and maintaining a healthy diet is not a contradiction. On the contrary. An individual who makes an effort to maintain healthy eating habits throughout the week and loses it on Shabbos may become really upset.

Additionally, if you gain even only 2 pounds on Shabbos, you’re busy trying to knock off those 2 pounds all week and get stuck on the same 2 pounds over and over again.
