I also forgot to mention that a couple of days before my grandparent died we called the rabbi to see what we need to do/come over to the house, and he asked “do I need to come over”, meaning is death eminent at the moment, and we said “we guess not”. He never came. Don’t get me wrong, he is a wonderful rabbi for the community and has done wonders to help it grow and bring people back to Yiddishkeit. I just kind of feel forgotten/not cared about.

What do you mean by young? He is in his 50s. The other one is young. I dont want to ask him because 1) we dont really have a relationship and I am too shy(when it comes to things like this) and 2) I dont want to bother him when I know he has bigger things to deal with.

We have good friends who we have over often, and vice versa. The last time she came she came right in and said “we are so hungry…come on lets get started, we are starving…let’s make kiddush then we’ll talk”. Also we like to sing zemiros so it really bother me when guests take over the table and start singing their own zemiros because they think we dont know how or dont want to sing, because we have not gotten their yet. Don’t get me wrong, I dont mind if they sing, I just prefer they let the host “run the show”.

Aries, I am sorry for your loss as well. I dont really want to bring up the subject as I do not want to place any more burden on the rabbi’s busy agenda. Also being a year past, the pain of course has decreased, and I am not so hurt that they do not ask of my wellbeing at this point, just that they did not ask right after it happened(even if I passed by them). The rabbi also always speaks about how he cares for his congregants, so I don’t really understand why I don’t feel that way.

mbachur, I disagree. I grew up going on Pesach retreats because the “tradition” was started by my mother A’H who felt it to hard to clean for Pesach considering my father had a food business out of our home. We continued to go on these programs after she was niftar and my grandmother A’H would help pay(because she also liked to go)…and let me just say that if Hashem wants you to feel like a slave on Pesach, you will. Two years ago in Palm Springs my grandmother, A’H became ill and made the experience very difficult, so while we were away physically from home, we still had a hard time.

Um, I’m Jewish and a guy…and a really good cook( with the help of Hashem) who loves to potchke in the kithen with complicated recipes…if I have the time. I don’t even like to get near a BBQ grill. And if I by any chance meet my zivug from this site please dont inform her that I can cook…I dont want to her to know(let her do the cooking…if she is a good cook). 😉

I think turning chumras into halacha and making people think they need to be followed may account for some going off the derech.

It is highly important not to use texting language. I see the outcome of this.I am currently attending a community college and in one of my english classes a girl turned in a paper with the letter ‘u’ as opposed to the word(which does not go in a formal paper anyhow). She still got a ‘b’ somehow. So much for the public school system.

I sometimes feel that I could have part of my grandfather’s neshama in me. I was named partly for him and partly for my great grandfather. I was born on the day (yes, Hebrew date) that my grandfather R’L was shot and killed. Maybe I could be picking up his mission and have different koach(i.e. different middle name)?

Grada the kasha is that some people do not and I am curious why. I have heard people say it is not Jewish custom. I meant to ask also do people celebrate their Hebrew and/or secular birthdays? We tend to do both(and leave the birthday cards on display on the shelves between those 2 dates).

Derech Hamelech, thank G-D it is not that bad in my situation. I have heard some horrible stories though. It is mostly me. My father is great, but like I said I have my own schedule and needs and I try and need to learn how to better respect and help my father and NOT make him try to do things MY way but make me try and go according to his schedule and help him when he needs it. I find myself impatient. Like if I need help, he is more than happy to help me, but if he needs help I find it really difficult sometimes to get up and help him. It makes me feel really bad.

I remember you could kind of use the keys to make a mouse. I never really figured it out. Thank G-D I figured out that museum/library in downtown Jerusalem had computers you could use for free on Tuesdays. I think it was called Beit Avi Chai?

mbachur, for one (1) ner yaccov closed. and 2) that computer never worked(at least I never learned how to use it). Anyway the kids I went to Ner Jake with I dont think would know what Joseph knows. Although the was a kid named Joseph there(but like I said I dont think he would know a lot of this stuff). And before anyone makes judgements on me, I was not a typical ner Jake kid.

I have no problem being with him and I dont think I will have trouble looking after him when he gets older (G-D willing) as he set an example taking care of his mother, my bubbie A’H. It is just that right now it is hard when we have different schedules, need to get together on many things, and have slightly different opinions on some things not most, and I get a little antsy and impatient and I dont mean to. As hard as I try I usually break and give to my yetzer hara. For example we learn together and I think we should always try to get to beis medresh on time and sometimes he is running slow and I get aggravated.

Passion, are you Lubavitch? or some type of Chassidic? I am not, but my sister married one. After havdalah he takes the wine and puts it behind his ears.(Thank G-D after it has been consumed already) I am not sure why , but maybe its the same as why you do the shin??

nfgo, I apologize If I used harsh tones. I just do not like that comparison. This was real, not some made up story for someone to get 15 minutes of fame. I also never saw a potato chip that looked like mother you know who or Ronald Reagan.

Josh, are you Joseph? You seem to be placing blame on the mods. It crossed my mind too, but it was just a fleeting thought. I think Joe knows a little too much about Yiddishkiet concepts not to be a yid, though I might be wrong. Could be a woman’s lib activist (as you suggest it could be a woman) or a Yeshiva punk. And I apologize to the mods, its just that you let a lot of Joseph Junk go through.
