This happens in Brooklyn too. My child, is now an adult, totally not Frum, but still a wonderful person. When it came to high school, no Yeshiva would accept my child. One principal told me, that other parents of my child’s friends, called him and said that if he would accept my child, they would not send their children to that school. They told him false things about my child. I know their children and they were no better than my child. They just had more money and connections.
seedysParticipantJoseph: Why are you questioning people wanting to have pet dogs? No one is telling you to get a dog.
seedysParticipantNo one will like this. I seriously think we should drop this subject. It is amazing in this day and age that women cover their hair altogether. If nice, natural long sheitels are permitted, more women are willing to cover their hair when they get married. Men should look away when outside, if they have a problem with those sheitels.
October 25, 2017 1:25 pm at 1:25 pm in reply to: Shocking Study of Modern Orthodox OTD Rate #1389670seedysParticipantInstead of looking at the Modern Orthodox, look at yourselves. Are all the “Frum” people, the best that they can be? My daughter had a Bais Yakov education, Frum home, and is totally not religious now. Yet, she is respectful, helpful, has a good heart, is a hard worker, etc. I don’t want to go into more details about her, so that no one should identify me or her. She has friends from the Bais Yaakov, one is Lesbian, another MO, and a few others, not religious at all. She has MO cousins in the Five Towns, who went to MO schools. They are grown up and still Modern Orthodox, keep Shabbos, Yom Tovim, Taharas Mishpocha, etc. She has other cousins that are Chassidic, not saying which kind. Some of them look religious, but are keeping only some mitzvos and do what they want when their parents are not looking. My ex-landord,from whom we rented an apartment, for many years, and they have many children. They are Chassidic and they have a child that is totally not religious. I have a long time friendly relationship with a famous Yeshivish Rabbi and Rebbetzin and family. They have one child that is totally not religious, but is helpful, caring, hardworking and friendly. My daughter has a few co-workers, that look Frum, but do not act nice and are not Frum. They live in a Frum community, and do whatever they want outside the community. OTD is a problem that affects all Jews, everywhere. It is difficult to be a Frum Jew, with all the new stringencies and prohibitions. It is also difficult to have faith in Hashem, when the world is a total mess and getting worse and it seems that Hashem is not in control. Love all your fellow Jews and accept them as they are. Don’t judge others until you can change places with them, which is not possible.
