benignuman,
But there are so many situations that simply do not have psak din from Sanhedrin.
SecularFrummyMemberWe run into a problem when it gets to a point that what a gadol may say could be viewed as incorrect to most or all of the “non-gedolim,” but perhaps this gadol is on such a level that he is the only one that could see the truth and all the others have erred.
What would we do in such a situation?
SecularFrummyMemberWarren 2016!
SecularFrummyMemberDid you go to cordozo?
SecularFrummyMemberheretohelp,
I am getting at the fact that many in the media are strongly opposed to sharia law in any form being implemented in the US, however, we never hear anything about beis din which is pretty much doing the same as the sharia courts(in terms of being arbitrators of religious law), when looking for an objective viewer.
SecularFrummyMemberOnce someone at the Young Israel of Woodmere did a great leining in one of the smaller minyanim. Very animated with different voices for different characters and different tones depending on the scene.
SecularFrummyMemberwhat does your username mean?
SecularFrummyMember“Estimates for the mass of material that falls on Earth each year range from 37,000-78,000 tons.”
SecularFrummyMemberWe all live on Earth, a pretty big place. Just take a jog somewhere.
SecularFrummyMemberSaysMe,
I do know how painful it is, as I have experienced the pain.
SecularFrummyMemberthe-art-of-moi,
Explain point 2. I sincerely do not understand.
SecularFrummyMemberWhy are so many people okay with causing pain to infants?
SecularFrummyMemberJust give money to HaPeles. Problem solved.
January 26, 2014 3:57 pm at 3:57 pm in reply to: The effect of the united states invasion on Iraq. #1000846SecularFrummyMemberI was just pointing out that the means (invading a country that had not attacked the US and killing over 100,000 civilians) are not justified by the supposed positive outcomes (as stated by the OP).
January 26, 2014 1:54 pm at 1:54 pm in reply to: The effect of the united states invasion on Iraq. #1000843SecularFrummyMemberEnds do not justify the means.
SecularFrummyMemberzahavasdad,
What about those that didn’t hear what is in the shuchan aruch directly from r’ Yosef Karo?
Kol korehs (and text in general) are how news is disseminated.
SecularFrummyMemberWould it be as offensive as calling someone “baldy?”
SecularFrummyMemberI thought it was still a good question. The problem was not about hashkofa, there are people who google different terms to see where they are mentioned, or stroll through here to see what we talk about. We try to avoid giving them fuel for their fire.
SecularFrummyMemberNothing like what you describe exists.
SecularFrummyMemberMybrother- Although I may be young, I certainly am not uneducated.
Obviously you had nothing to add to this conversation so you resort to ad hominem attacks.
SecularFrummyMemberAs soon as the dude said that zumba was not what Sarah imeinu would do I was very turned off.
SecularFrummyMemberMDG- That in no disproves anything regarding the legitimacy of DNA testing, that is only an indictment of those specific companies performing those tests.
SecularFrummyMemberTo think anything but the fact that DNA can prove ancestry is completely without foundation. Restriction fragment length polymorphisms are very conserved within families.
SecularFrummyMemberzahavasdad- You are thinking about a situation in which a mother that is Rh -ve and pregnant with her second baby that is Rh +ve (due to genetic information for the Rh factor being inherited from the father). The mother’s body will recognize the first baby’s Rh as a foreign antigen and immune memory will be established. When the second baby’s Rh antigen presents to the mother, an immune response will be mounted, with B-cells differentiating into plasma cells which produce IgG antibodies (The smallest of the immunoglobulins and therefore able to cross the placenta) against the red blood cells of the baby leading to a condition known as hemolytic disease of the newborn.
SecularFrummyMemberShe was hoping that the guy would come to her sister’s funeral and she would be able to ask the shadchun to set them up.
SecularFrummyMemberI would say many sports game are kosher. Try NHL or FIFA, both excellent.

SecularFrummyMemberThey went OTD. They were kohanim that took over the kingship, which was designated for the tribe of Yehudah.
November 29, 2013 2:46 pm at 2:46 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989962SecularFrummyMemberNot sure if it was The little I know who said that.
November 29, 2013 12:59 pm at 12:59 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989960SecularFrummyMemberRebyidd23- Where did you find such well worded rhetoric?
November 29, 2013 1:40 am at 1:40 am in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989958SecularFrummyMemberI am not making a condemnation of government’s right to govern. I am condemning stupid laws as being unfair. You on the other hand are saying it is fair for the government to have stupid laws.
Moderator, what was wrong with my previous post?
I don’t want anyone trying it at home.
November 28, 2013 12:12 pm at 12:12 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989935SecularFrummyMemberThe little I know- You said, “it is always toxic, and causes damage with each and every puff.” On what basis are you making that claim?
Further, smoking is not at all necessary. Vaporizers are great inventions and should be used at all times possible.
To the point about poison ivy; I have the choice to personally use that plant in any way I see fit. That should be the case for all plants. End of story.
November 28, 2013 11:41 am at 11:41 am in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989933SecularFrummyMemberPopa- I think it makes sense to you. You just either made something up or you realize you are wrong. You claim it is “eminently fair” for government to pass “stupid” policies. See your previous posts for explanation.
November 28, 2013 2:06 am at 2:06 am in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989928SecularFrummyMemberPopa- Still no answer? Do you believe it is fair for government to pass stupid policies?
November 27, 2013 7:53 pm at 7:53 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989922SecularFrummyMemberAdditionally, you believe it is fair for government to pass stupid policies?
November 27, 2013 7:43 pm at 7:43 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989920SecularFrummyMemberJust curious. Why are you inclined to think one is a stupid policy while you are unsure of the other?
November 27, 2013 7:14 pm at 7:14 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989917SecularFrummyMemberPopa- It is apt in this case to bring up the soda ban.
I’ll quote you again. You said, “I think it is eminently fair that the govt should prevent substances from being grown if they think they are dangerous to society.”
Do you believe it is “fair” for a government to prevent things that they deem dangerous within society?
The government of NYC decided to ban soft drinks larger than 16oz because of the danger to the society’s health. Based only on your words, you should think this is fair.
November 27, 2013 6:58 pm at 6:58 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989915SecularFrummyMemberSo you would be okay with a ban on any soft drinks larger than 16oz?
November 27, 2013 6:48 pm at 6:48 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989912SecularFrummyMemberPopa- You said, “I think it is eminently fair that the govt should prevent substances from being grown if they think they are dangerous to society.”
On what basis are you claiming that cannabis is a danger to society? The scientific community certainly does not agree with that claim.
November 27, 2013 12:14 pm at 12:14 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989893SecularFrummyMemberWhile alcohol is naturally occurring, distilled or brewed alcohol, which is what is actually consumed, needs to be manufactured.
On the other hand, cannabis is a plant that grows in the wild in areas of the middle east and central America. The only reason why some feel that cannabis is difficult to cultivate is that under current US federal law and in most state jurisdictions it needs to be done indoors, which is very energy inefficient because it doesn’t utilize the most important ingredient for all things on earth, sunlight.
Let people grow whatever crop they see fit on the property which they pay tax.
SecularFrummyMemberJust finished reading The Fault in Our Stars for the fifth time and I needed to see if any NFs were in the coffee room. Glad I found one. DFTBA.
November 26, 2013 11:12 pm at 11:12 pm in reply to: Sometimes you have to be smart enough to… #990929SecularFrummyMemberPopa, you are great at it.
SecularFrummyMemberIt is an online community, not that much different than the coffee room, except we don’t forget to be awesome.
November 26, 2013 1:06 am at 1:06 am in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989888SecularFrummyMemberIt definitely does not make one smarter. Nothing can make a person smarter, however a person does have the ability to gain knowledge. THC gives me the ability to see things from a different perspective. In that sense, it makes me understand things in different ways that I would not have otherwise, hence I gain knowledge.
The biggest fraud out there is “medical cannabis.” If AIDS/immunosuppressed people can take the “drug” and handle it properly, how is it that a perfectly healthy person can not?
The CHOICE to use Cannabis should be legal for all.
November 26, 2013 12:18 am at 12:18 am in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989886SecularFrummyMemberWe need to stop classifying this naturally occurring plant species as a drug.
Amphetamines, processed cocaine, processed opioids. These are drugs.
SecularFrummyMemberThe bronze age never happened. It is just a ploy introduced by the secularists to make us think humans developed.
November 25, 2013 10:05 pm at 10:05 pm in reply to: What do you think about cannabis becoming more and more legal? #989884SecularFrummyMemberRebdoniel- How can you say that it is never good? Some of my most creative and enlightening moments have been under this plants’ influence.
SecularFrummyMemberIs approaching a person completely out of the question?
SecularFrummyMemberCheck out the Amshinover rebbe.
SecularFrummyMemberThis can be comparable to people that cut their wrists to get a thrill.
