in reply to: Zionism, Why the Big Debate? #1101979

Even if you want to say that arab terror has been caused by zionism, it is too late now. At this point, the muslim world hates us period. Also in recent years muslim terror has been reaching unprecedented levels, even if this is because of israel, it is too late to simply turn it peaceful. I have seen NK protesting in East Jerusalem, and I have been verbally attacked multiple times in East Jerusalem, even though they know not all jews are zionists. They dont ask if you are a zionist before they attack you, and of you do not believe me, ask those murdered by terrorists in recent days. Ask the chossid in belgium who just got stabbed. These are the facts, do woth them what you wish

Someone once asked the Rogatchover for a brocha. He replied “I’m not a rebbe”. The man really wanted one so he said “but even the brocha of a regular person… Kal vechomer”. The rogatchover told him “Give yourself a brocha, and you won’t need the kal vechomer!”

in reply to: Kick Him Out! #1041849

@chochom–, personally, if I would have been sent away at that time amd goven money from my parents, i wouod have simply used it all on drugs, and progressively gotten into heavier substances. As ot happens, i have a friend whose parents did. Exactly as you suggest. Their son (after havin been in rehab twice) is a drug addict, drug dealer, and living with a shiksa. No, it probably is not the right thing to do in the majority of cases. Think about it, youre sending this kid away from whatever restrictions are left at home, giving him money, and letting him do as he wishes. What do you think will happen? If he was doing anything bad at home, it will only be worse outside of the house.

in reply to: Kick Him Out! #1041837

If my parents would have kicked me out when I was in that stage, I don’t know where I would be today. Or if I would even have survived c’v

#3, could it be that tosfos’ problem is that the loshon by ??? ???? is so harsh, how could the gemorrah advocate learning in that way?

The other day I had a minor rant on this subject to one of my rebbeim, a man whom I hold in the greatest respect. My point was that since i have learnt a mesechta relatively well(which I am currently chazering) I was able to notice a stirah in 2 tosfosim 39 daf apart, which was not helpfully pointed out by the meaoras hashas. His responce–“When I was your age(3rd year bochur) I would argue about this with people, then I realized that it is so poshut, if they don’t understand it, nothing I say can help them”

This is a man who I have seen literally knows tamach baal peh, who learnt shas down to halocha lemaaseh over eighteen years, while finishing it a further four times during that time in a different seder. It made me wonder what would have happened if th other people had convinced him. I know he has had a greater impact on my life than almost any other single person. So on that note, rock on PAA. Let those blind to pshat, those who think you krum, say what they wish. At least one person here seriously appreciates this thread.

LittleFroggie–Yup, I’m still here, I assumed you had left this thread. I like your story, although I am trying to ascertain whether or not you honestly believe that. Anyways, thought you might like to know, when i made my account,I couldn’t think or an original s/n( thanks for the nice abbreviation btw), and as I was about to use something totally rehashed, the song “Secret Agent Man” from the Ace Ventura 2 (gasp! A movie)’s soundtrack played on my ipod which was on shuffle. Immediately, the idea dawned upon me, secretagentyid, undercover jew. Thus, my username was born, and that’s all I have to say that. Friends? Still think I am a troll, or a nefarious mod posing as a regular poster? Please, bring me proof. Yes, I am secretagentyid, but if you tickle me, do I not laugh? If you prick me do I not bleed?

A secretagentyid by any other name would not be as fun.

in reply to: Discrimination Against Baalei Teshuva #1035527

Some of the comments here are amongst the most disgusting things I have ever seen. Discriminate against a bt? I am FFB myself, but consider muself a BT, and have many dear friends who are BT’s, and in general, they are far more dedicated to torah and yiddishkeit, probably because they were actually moser nefesh for it. How dare any of you have claims against someone who changed their entire world around for Hashem, and be upset with them for “not fitting in”? If you are not compatible with a BT because of their past, or other matters, how is that any different to not being compatible with anyone? You all will whine about “the shiddich crisis” and t the same time, chatz veshalom that you or your child will marry someone, who actually gve up everything to serve Hashem! Avrohom avinu was a ben nidda, the imahos were raised in the houses of reshaim, moshe was raise in pharoas palace, and he married the daughter of a ger. King yoshiyahu was a baal teshuva, as was rabbi akiva, reish lakish, rabbi elazar ben dardaya, rav wolbe, rav yaakov hillel, rav arush and many others. I would rather face your discrimination, than discriminate against someone in the way that you all do. I know two baalei teshuva who have been completely disowned by their parents, and a ger whose family now wont speak to him and only refer to him as “christ-killer”. Yet, someone who has made such a sacrifice, is not good enough for you. Rachmana litzlan.

“Anyone under the age of 40 who smokes is a retard and deserves to be put in cherem”

Hmm. Besides the ridiculous ignorance this displays, let me tell you a story. I began smoking at 14, i was part of a bad crowd, I was angry and unhappy. As well, 2 of my brothers smoked at that point. Since then i have attempted to quit on 8 seperate occasions. The best lasted 6 months. The most recebt was 3 weeks ago, and the next time is in two weeks. Please tell me why I deserve to be put in cherem? Also try understand other people’s point of view

in reply to: OTD Support Group #1027703

I was off the derech for about 4 years, from 14 to about 18. My issues were very different from the average OTD person though. For me, i pretty much wanted to simply give in to all my taivos, and judaism stopped me. I knew what i was doing was wrong, so i learned a lot, both jewish and scientific/philosophic works, in order to raise problems with judaism so i would have a “real” reason for being OTD. Baruch hashem, that life is far behind me now, although, some things were carried with me.

No offense RebbeDovid, but you can also find hundreds of testimonials on youtube praising Islam, Christianity, Scientology, Buddhism and many more. I sincerely hope that question of yours was sarcastic.

In your next list, include the two gemorrahs in brachos— has veachar kach kesses(very explicit rashi there i think i remember) and sinay kodem
