turning it on before Shabbos should be assur because of mashmia kol.
screwdriverdelightParticipantI think Machon Raaya hires people to publicize their name in the coffee room.
screwdriverdelightParticipantbuy a microscope. (I don’t know about anyone else, but I could spend hours in front of a microscope just looking at all sorts of random things.)
November 18, 2015 9:28 pm at 9:28 pm in reply to: "What's your favorite color?" is bad chinuch #1114161screwdriverdelightParticipantubiquitin, I know what I wrote. It doesn’t say people aren’t entitled to ask children whatever they want.
Never mind the fact that halacha takes favorite foods into account eg regarding kedicma for brachos and doesnt dismiss it as “the opposite in chinuch”
See Mishlei 13:25 and mitzudas dovid there.
Rebyidd23: because it’s a mitzvah.
Torah613, you missed the point .The point was not to have extreme opinions, not not to have opinions.
November 17, 2015 7:29 pm at 7:29 pm in reply to: "What's your favorite color?" is bad chinuch #1114154screwdriverdelightParticipantNo one is denying the entitlement but it doesn’t mean it’s good chinuch.
screwdriverdelightParticipantIslam comes from yishmael, not eisav.
screwdriverdelightParticipantDY, assuming this post http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/lying-for-the-sake-of-shalom#post-587866
was in response to me (I don’t know to whom else it would be), allow me to clarify:
Fraud = dishonest
Stealing ? dishonest
The fact that some forms of stealing also fall under the category of dishonesty, doesn’t mean that stealing is always dishonest. [The converse of a true statement is not necessarily true.]
screwdriverdelightParticipantkarlbenmarx,
you can thank de blasio for his stupid 25 mile limit on ocean parkway even in the middle of the night when its empty, where are the elected officials like greenfield and deutsch?
Where’s Greenfield? In De Blasio’s office, pushing to make the speed limit even lower!
screwdriverdelightParticipantI thought you were saying that the 25 mph limit doesn’t effect traffic flow because everyone ignores it. I guess you were just pointing out the absurdity of the new speed limit, (which isn’t really relevant).
screwdriverdelightParticipantGoogle says that fraud and swindling–two forms of theft, to quote you–are dishonest, not all theft. Trespassing isn’t fraud, it isn’t swindling, and it isn’t dishonest.
screwdriverdelightParticipantJoseph, it won’t help if veryone drives at 30 mph if they’ll all end up at a red light.
screwdriverdelightParticipantFraud and swindling are forms of theft.
Seriously? What does that have to do with anything?
November 12, 2015 9:01 pm at 9:01 pm in reply to: "What's your favorite color?" is bad chinuch #1114142screwdriverdelightParticipantHashemisreading, the result of bad chinuch is proven right here. Your favorite food is cholent? Did they also teach you not to exercise ever?
screwdriverdelightParticipanttechnical20, Of the boys you dated, what is the ratio of Jewish boys with thinning hair to non-Jewish boys with thinning hair?
screwdriverdelightParticipant“Is trespassing halachicly categorized as gezel?”
Rashi (d’varim 19:14) says it is, tosafos in b”m (61a d”h ella) argues.
screwdriverdelightParticipantStealing is not dishonest.
screwdriverdelightParticipantJoseph, the lights are coordinated in line with the 25 mph limit. The fact that people drive faster just means they waste more gas and catch more red lights.

screwdriverdelightParticipantCholent on Friday nights, more than anything, causes the hair loss in the yeshiva world
screwdriverdelightParticipantI personally believe that Askenzim in America and most (maybe all) places should not be wearing black yeshivish hats, which is very common nowadays. The whole reason why Ashkenazim wear it was because in Europe, this was the way of appearing respectfully but in America it’s not the way. for ashkenazim to wear these hats nowadays is a joke!

(Here’s one marah makom: Tosafos k’suvos 110b d”h ??? ???? ?????)
screwdriverdelightParticipantdoes that mean you don’t know or “sometimes”?
screwdriverdelightParticipantAre mods of the cr the same mods for the news articles?
screwdriverdelightParticipantMDG,
Avi K, the rama doesn’t mention chu”l there and I don’t know why it’s relevant anyway.
The difference of chu”l is understood by many as to why Birkat Cohanim is not said daily.
that addresses neither of the two points I made
screwdriverdelightParticipantAvi K, the rama doesn’t mention chu”l there and I don’t know why it’s relevant anyway.
screwdriverdelightParticipantbar shattaya used to be-me thinks you got an additude
screwdriverdelightParticipantwoops that was supposed to say, “wish I knew what that meant.”
November 8, 2015 5:08 am at 5:08 am in reply to: Who Would You Elect as Mayor of Coffeetown #1111138screwdriverdelightParticipantWhich CR poster would make the best US president? (If Trump could do it, why not one of us…)
screwdriverdelightParticipantwish I knew what meant.
screwdriverdelightParticipantwell, make sure to ask a competent poseik, because from the mishnah b’rurah 117:5 it would seem that according to everybody, if you’re planning on returning to chu”l, you shouldn’t say it.
screwdriverdelightParticipantThe rama (128:44) says birkas kohanim is only said my mussaf on yom tov because the simchah is greater then, before everyone heads for the s’udah.
The rama says birkas kohanim is said by n’ilah and brings differing customs regarding shach’ris. (The reason it was stopped by n’ilah is probably because it usually extends until after sh’kiah.)
screwdriverdelightParticipantIf you’re going just for a trip and planning on staying there, I don’t think you’re supposed to say ??? ?? ????.
screwdriverdelightParticipantkitzur shulchan aruch is not a good seifer through which to learn practical halacha, because the author in many places paskens like rishonim whose opinions were rejected by shulchan aruch and pos’kim. Chayyei Adam is a better alternative.
screwdriverdelightParticipantMy emunas chachamim includes believing that the reasons they give are conclusive.
screwdriverdelightParticipantThose who eat cholent Shabbos night or during the week should make sure to make the day s’udah bigger than the night s’udah, or find a different food to designate specifically for the day.
screwdriverdelightParticipantI’m not sure why Sanders is running on the democratic ticket; czars are usually antithetical to democracy.
screwdriverdelightParticipantI knew it! Probably most of the usernames here are mods’ and thus they have the power not only over which posts are allowed, but which topics make it. If there’s something boring on, they switch on to all their other accounts and debump whatever they don’t like.
