also jewish music stream, yidlive, hidabroot- all music streaming. jewish music stream is very particular about what music they’ll play, so is my favorite because my taste matches theirs

squeak- and there are more ppl sick because there are more doctors, and more cavities because there are more dentists? (oh wait, thats true, because before that people just died or pulled out their teeth…). And more Jewish schools causes more people to go OTD, and more food= more starvation. Oh and more seforim and translated works means less people are learning! I get it now! Not.

squeak- well, i’m sorry to be a disappointment to you. But i’m used to that n it won’t stop me! Plus i don’t believe that your ‘study’ has been demonstrated. Though perhaps world self esteem has gone way down within the last 50 years, i doubt motivational books are to blame. I’m pretty confident in my internal filter and i do feel like i usually come out with a few good points from every inspirational book i get around to reading. So disappointment or not, i’d take 100 books for $10, even if i only gained 2 pages from each.

“Shadchan thinks I’m a great guy and if I tell her the real reason she’ll think I’m shallow, superficial etc.” well, then it’s time to let her see the truth? on a serious note, you don’t need to tell the shadchan why you’re saying no though. unless you think she’ll keep redding 400lb girls to you if you don’t speak up.

<nodding, nodding, nodding>. Except the hw one. I save my things properly :).

    7. Thinking something is about to fall off the shelf and lunging to save it… Then standing there arm outstretched, looking ridiculous when nothing happens.

    8. The half sneeze. ”ah, ahhh, ahhhh, AHHH! <silence>”

    9. When your foot slips on the ice, and you do the polka to catch your balance, then see someone staring at you as you continue down the block.

    10. Waving to your friend driving by… Oops that wasn’t her.

Rabbi P- i don’t think “all the girls out there” can be put into one box, especially not as the narrow example of your one friend who felt guilty about a look on his wife’s face so decided that meant he had to spend another $3000. I don’t think i’m the only girl in this generation who’d be more than happy with a CZ or a different stone, and i don’t think the majority of girls are more concerned about having the biggest diamond than putting themselves into debt for it.

yserbius- i’m not sure how i feel about post-graduation. Though there has usually been enough exposure to have lessened people’s sensitivity to things, which is a loss. I feel more that people IN a non-Jewish college/university fall/struggle while there, though many do therefore strengthen themselves either when they realize or after the fact.

i know it’s normal, but i still want to relieve the pain. I am sleeping a lot, and making sure to get lots of fluids, so looking for ideas. Advil isn’t working for me. I will try heat but that will only work for my back, but wont help my super sore legs.

    Thanks for the advice though!

i wonder though, if someone asked a rav or gadol who went through the current university system, if they’d say they were unaffected, and hadn’t lost any part of their frumkeit, sensitivity, strength, through their years there. It would surprise me if they said it hadn’t affected them at all.

you make it sound like weight is the only reason people can’t find a shidduch…

When people ask someone’s size, i don’t answer. I’ve said on a previous thread, there are better ways of answering, especially since dresssize and appearance don’t often directly connect. Build and height play in too.

I do think any shadchan(te) who puts down a girl or boy for their size should be put in their place, and not be allowed to work in a sensitive area like shidduchim, for which they clearly lack tact and sensitivity.

so you had one teacher who went on defense cuz she didn’t know how to answer or maybe what to make of your question. And you can’t really include the non-jewish pro-donor teacher in your judgement of your school in its bais yaakov aspect.

You had a bad experience with someone somehow telling you you wouldnt succeed in something, if i understood correctly. But because of a few teachers who you didn’t get along with, and because of a single girl in a big school who didn’t mesh with her particular school and then had struggles which may or may not have had a connection to her schooling, you are saying that bais yaakovs brainwash negativity, low self esteem, that deviating will cause failure… But that’s not true.

augh, i was brainwashed in bais yaakov!! They told me to dress b’tznius and with taste, and to be put together! They ingrained in me that tefilla is soo important and that it’s really for my benefit! They drilled into me to be machshiv Torah, to the point that I will never put down a gadol even! They even made me shy away from shmoozing with non-Jews and i ‘naturally’ have acted that way in college and work! They even heavily stressed the role a bas yisroel plays in her life, her future family, and klal yisroel, with the way she behaves, dresses, and her actions! (gasp!!)

yes, i’m kidding around. But brainwashing is an extreme word. And even if there are some teachers in some schools who DO push push push a full-time learning kollel lifestyle forever as the ultimate way of life, it’s by no means all teachers in all schools.

gamanit- there’s a big difference between someone telling you you could use a single (or 2) dress sizes, and thinking you are overweight. but i agree its not always healthy to lose weight.

gamanit- by who???? Thats disgusting, crazy, ridiculous.. Ok i’ll stop ranting. I guess it depends also on how every individual holds their weight, but still. And then people wonder why eating disorders and unhealthy diets invade our communities…
