SayIDidIt™Participant
bWatched them and found them very funny (es. the bloopers!) and entertaining! But why did they make the Yeshivish guy (what ever his name is!) sooo extreme? I have never seen such things in the Yeshivish world. If people, who are not farmiliar with Yeshivish lifestyle, would see this they would get turned off. But ep. 5 was amazing!
And why does he have a Goyish name anyways?
And Feivish is so Tuna Beigel!
Great shows! Can’t wait for more!
(And I like the short ads. z)

SayIDidIt™Participantshmoel: if you leave 20 lights instead of 200 lights, I would guess the amount saved would be more then just minimal. And they still don’t need 3 BMs fully lit up all night!
zalman: maybe some of them. And for a empty building (my second case), the FD wouldn’t care if all lights are off…
RABBAIM: in my second case, the Yeshiva has big flood lights around the whole building. And you don’t need lights on on the 3rd and 4th floor to deter robberies!
haifagirl: first: I’m not a tax payer. And second, I was only joking!

I would also recommend a visit to shabbat.com where you can look for an opportunity to spend a Shabbat with a jewish family. Nothing else can come close to experiencing judaism in real life! (And maybe you can share your aunt’s kugel recipe with your hostess! 🙂 )
Shabbat.com – check it out!
About learning Hebrew:
Unless you live in Israel (in which case you would need Hebrew even if you weren’t Jewish !) you really don’t have to learn how to speak Hebrew. The main thing you would want to concentrate on is learning how to read. And then write. As you probably know by now, we speak a mixture of English, Hebrew and Yiddish
(to quote a song:
To originate a language, a new way to talk and speak
Is a most imposing challenge, a monumental feat
And most are doomed to failure, before they even start
But in the hallowed halls, of Yeshivos far and wide Our young men have discovered a new way to verbalize
And a dash of Aramaic; a linguistic potpourri
that’s called…
Yeshivishe Reid Yeshivishe Shprach…)
so speaking Hebrew is not a must. However, Siddurim (Prayer Books) and most Seforim (Books) are printed in Hebrew. There are many with translations but eventually you will want to Daven (pray-Yiddish) in Hebrew.
There are three written forms of Hebrew used today: “Print”, “Script” and “Rashi (Rashi – Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki (1040-1105 C.E.) who wrote a very famous commentary on The Bible and Talmud)”. Print is used in (most) Seforim and printed text. Script, how we all write! And Rashi is used for commentaries.
That is a “very” basic introduction.
If you have specific questions on a particular issue or topic, I would suggest to start a thread so it could be discussed properly. But if you have a basic question or what a translation of a word, post it here and we will try to help you!
As others mentioned, you should find a Rabbi (also sometimes called Rav) who can “take your hand” (as you probably noticed by now, we don’t shake hands with the opposite gender) and really guide you. Also, if you end up going to a family for Shabbos, you can get close to the women of the family and she can be a friend and mentor! The CR is a fabulous place, but a “live” person is 1000 times better!
SayIDidIt™Participanthey cshapiro, no noone knows what I was talking about!

About the CR, most of us don’t really know each other. I honestly can say that I don’t know any current posters. In real life I may know some (though I doubt it) but here I only “know” people from hanging around here. Stay and post! You’ll see, its real fun (and addictive!!)!!!
August 24, 2012 3:45 am at 3:45 am in reply to: Solution to having to pay for schoolbooks that break your children's backs. #892680SayIDidIt™ParticipantAnd you will regulate that no student is playing games or surfing the web during school, right? And when your child loses his iPad, or it falls and cracks, or he spills his hot chocolate all over it, or his gog eats it… there goes ALL his books and notes!
And tests will be e-mailed to the students, they will download it, google all the Qs and email back there teacher a fully correct test! Wow! Straight As!! (And if a kid is too dumb to do that then he deserves a F, no matter how many questions he actually got right!!)

About your above comment, with time you will start to understand more of the topics discussed. But then there are some that even I don’t try to figure out!!
August 24, 2012 3:07 am at 3:07 am in reply to: Where to start becoming Jewish when family roots discovered #991075SayIDidIt™Participantaurora, you said you love learning new lang. so I would suggest you start learning basic Hebrew starting with the alphabet. This will give you a boost later on when you will want to pray and learn!
I wish you much success on your journey!
SayIDidIt™ParticipantWhen I saw The Wolf’s original posts, I so wanted to say that he does 3 braids because he is a big baal Avera and a Rasha! But then I saw how the other posts went and decided that some may not understand what I am saying, so I won’t say it…

SayIDidIt™ParticipantI heard R’ Yosef Veiner discuss this question and he said that if you can say Tehillim during the day instead, it would be better. But if, you will not do it during the day or you will waste that time at night, its better to say Tehillim at night.
If one has a Tehillim group and it can be changed to during the day (or Thursday night), better to do that. But if even one person will stop coming, better to keep doing it at night.
This Shiur can be found on Kol HaLashon under Tefilla.

They also have MANY other books (including a Jewish Law And Practices (Halacha) Series) which may be helpful to you. Visit there website: artscroll.com
SayIDidIt™Participantwhich model are you talking about??!!!!
look on the sticker on the bottom or by the battery compartment.

SayIDidIt™ParticipantI heard a story from Rabbi P. Krohn:
There was a couple who had a company and every morning a delivery truck who come to the factory, the driver would unload the truck and the wife (owner) would sign the delivery paper, they would shake hands and the driver would leave. Then the couple became BT. And the wife felt akward shaking the driver’s hand but didn’t want to say anything that may ruin there buissness.
One dayc while Davening, the lady thought of an interesting P’shat to a Passuk. She was saying Ashrei and read the Passuk like this: Poeach Es Yodecha, you, Hashem, put out your hand. I don’t need to put out my hand. Me puting out my hand is not bringing me my Parnassha but Hashem is Masbea L’Chol Chai!
And the next day, when the delivery man put out his hand, she told him that religious Jews don’t shake hands with the other gender. And the man left and never asked to shake hands again.
Whatever you do, remember that Hashem is the one who gives us what we need. If you stick with him, he’ll stick with you.
(hope this was clear. Its hard to post from a phone…)

SayIDidIt™ParticipantSee moskidoodle’s thread, We all have links….
Basically, if a member has a space in there SN (ex. The Goq) the link has a %20 in place of the space (The%20Goq) but there should really be a – instead (The-Goq). Or, there are some members who changed there SN (***GASP*** How’d they do that?!!) and the link shows there current SN but the correct link should be there old SN, so the link doesn’t work. Got that???
The Goq™: In your case, you have both. As I showed above with the space, and you had ™ added to your SN. You can try to ask a mod to fix your link for you…
SayIDidIt™ParticipantA LIMO? I want a 747! Off of the hall’s roof and to land on top of the hotel’s roof!

All she was saying is that her friend was not wearing torn up/faded jeans but colorful and lovely ones. In no way was she saying ladies should wear pants. When she saw her friend in pants, she was shocked.

About shoes: what if a child has a tantrum and starts kicking other children? While the teacher is trying to control the kid, can s/he remove his/her shoes to protect the other children??

SiDi™
SayIDidIt™ParticipantBelow are links I found in the CR that MAY answer your Q:
Hope one of these help! You can always Bump™ one of the above threads to get the discussion going…
SiDi™
SayIDidIt™ParticipantIf I am reading a thread that is off the main CR page (meaning an old thread) and I want people to see it and/or get the discussion going again, I will write Bump (or Bump™ to be cool) so that the thread will “bump” to the home page.
When someone says, “can someone bump this thread?” they are Bump™ing the thread in a funny way!
Simple as that!
SiDi™
SayIDidIt™ParticipantZees: see 3rd post on the page.
SiDi™
SayIDidIt™ParticipantCuriosity: as I said, I will stay out of this coversation. But when reading your post you said:
they are “our women”, just like we are “their men”
which seems to imply that you are a male. But then you said
…West sees us as…
which seems to imply the opposite.
Just wondering!!
