The gemara in mesches Sanhedrian 22 explains that it this idea of harder than krias yam suf is zivug sheini and the 40 days is zivug rishon, and zivug sheini goes based on ones deeds (Sotah 2).

Avi K: As I said before there are different approaches to the words of the Mishna, but you will find throughout shas that there is nothing greater than Torah. Since you brought up derech ertz kadma l’Torah, there is an idea that we go by the way of creation first one starts with worldly affairs and moves on to spiritual.First man was created and then his nefesh ,so too here first derech eretz than Torah.

There is an idea from the Brisker Rav that there is a majority and a minority when it comes to learning full time.Abaye said Many followed R’Yismael and succeeded and many tried to follow the shitta of R’Shimon and did not succeed. There is a minority who are able to do it, but majority does not follow this way .

There is a lot on this topic. First what is the definition of derech ertez? It is a machlokes how to learn it. Whichever way you want to learn it, Torah is definitely more important(Avos 6:5,Berachos 35).

    I think you meant parshas bamidbar,bamidbar = 603,550, leviem = 22,000. In pinchas = 601,730, leviem = 23,000.

Well “ethics” is a subjective idea. Ethics relates to the code of behavior which is the social norm or which is commanded by religion. Without an anchor everyones ethics will vary. Teaching someone not to cheat(ethical in most societies) or anything ethical keeps a society stable. However, this of course is not the idea(making up what one thinks is ethical) of the Torah because we all know that there is only one code of ethics and that comes from the Torah.

The gemara in Eruvin(54b) discusses chazrah and its importance. The gemara mentions that chazarah was done 4 times by Moshe Rabbeinu, and then goes on to explain the importance of mnemonics to remember each suyga easily. So 4 times might be a start.

Parshas Shemos: There is a Prisha(YD:264) which brings a fascinating medrash on why we use a metal knife for bris milah as opposed to a stone which was used previously(Tzipporah used a stone, sefer Yehoshua).

He explains when Dovid Hamelech threw the stone at Goliath a conversation between the stone and Goliath’s armor was transpiring. The stone said let me penetrate your armor, but the armor said my job is to protect. The stone said if you give me this honor then I will give you a honor that will last in every generation and that is bris milah.

I always wondered maybe the actual problem is the the fact that dating is really unnatural and is relatively a new idea. It seems like for thousand’s of years arrange marriages was the way to go.I know thats not how things are really done today and I might be off,but it could be another factor.

Parshas V’yechiei: Yaakov says to Yosef ” ????????? ?????????? ??? ?????? ????? .??????? ??? ??????????? ???????? ??????? ????? ????????? ???? ??? ???????” what does this expression mean: “I had not expected to see [even] your face, and behold, God has shown me your children too.”

There is a Gemara in Yevomas(60b) which says when one has immoral relations his face will have a greenish tinge(a sign of sin).So Yaakov was happy to see Yosef’s face was clear. However, that was not enough because there is a gemara in Shabbas(110) that brings down a concoction that if one drinks it his face will be clear of the greenish tinge. The gemara goes on to say that if one drinks it the side effect is sterility.

Now we can fully appreciate Yaakov’s words. It was a double reaction, one that your face is clear, and I see you have children(didn’t drink potion). This means that Yosef was pure of sin.(Chanukas HaTorah)
