What happened to the shittah of Rav Shmuel bar Nachmani on that same daf in Sanhedrin?
May 30, 2013 3:52 pm at 3:52 pm in reply to: Thoughts on Someone Selling His Olam Habah on Ebay #971246sam4321ParticipantRav Chaim Kaniefsky says it is impossible to sell their portion in the sefer Shailos Rav pg.88 ,the questioner brings the famous story of the Gra who gave up his shcar mitzvah to have an esrog.see also Divrei Eliyahu pg 101 .Rav Chaim says its impossible and we don’t learn halacha from stories.
sam4321ParticipantIt should be noted that Rav Yehuda Henkin(grandson of the great posek Rav Henkin) quotes his grandfather in the sefer Bnei Banim chelek 2 page 211:38 that wearing loose pants does not present any issue and is consider tzanuah.Whether this is accepted by other poskim is debatable just like many other issues.
sam4321ParticipantSam2: It is interesting to note that in gemarah shabbas 111 the Tosfos on the bottom about sechitah brings the Ri ( 111b at the end )who said he heard from the women about the mesorah of Rabbeinu Tam.
sam4321ParticipantIs it permissible to learn the halachos of women as is the case in the Magen Avraham OC 263:12(Prisha/Drisha quotes his mother or wife for halacha of candle lighting)?
sam4321ParticipantSam2:Aren’t the pieces placed randomly before each game?
sam4321ParticipantSam2: can you be more specific which settlers edition and what the problem is?
sam4321ParticipantThere are two reasons, one you mentioned. The second reason is brought by the Sharei Tshuvua 460:2 which says that we are afraid of someone mistaking matzah meal for flour(based on an actual story ).According to this second reason time is not a factor.
sam4321ParticipantIts brought in the Kabbalistic work Sefer Habris 1 mamaar 17.The reason brought is one might see scary things and it might have influence on the baby.Nothing to do with impure or not.Nowadays, when people see animals more frequently many say one should not to be worried.
sam4321Participant??? ?? ??? ????-part of the answer to the rasha is ???? ?? ????(knock his teeth out) what does the teeth signify and what does it help to knock them out ?
sam4321ParticipantSqueak: Talmud Yerushalmi Avodah Zarah 3:1 ,world is round.
sam4321ParticipantYitay: Is it a safek if the worker says vadai one is lo lishmah and he knows which one it is?
March 8, 2013 9:46 pm at 9:46 pm in reply to: Looking For More Info On 'Ben Bag Bag' and 'Ben Hay Hay' #936668sam4321ParticipantSee gemarah Chagiga 9b and Tosfos.
sam4321ParticipantToras Chaim hagadah with Rishonim.Rav Nebontzols haggadah.Shlal Rav on Haggadah. There are so many… There is one with the ??”? ,???? ????,???”? & ???????.
sam4321ParticipantYitay:If you don’t think it is meduyak from the gemarah that these areas have be covered because of ervah, you do agree that they have to cover these areas based off hirur for the man and the issue of bchukosaeim lo..,(Rav Moshe).I still believe the gemarah was saying the halachos of saying krias in front of ervah and these areas certainly were covered and have to be covered.
sam4321ParticipantMesheches Megillah on daf 16a Tosfos (see the Hagoas HaBach 5)says he heard that the 10,000 kikarim of kesef haman offered equals the amount of all the chatzai shekalim of the 600,000 Jews of the midbar. Now how to figure it out.How much is a one kikar? One kikar = 60 maneh.60*10,000 = 600,000.One Maneh = 25 shekalim.so 600,000*25 = 15,000,000 ,How many Half Shekalim were there? 15,000,000*2= 30,000,000. The age of giving machatzis Hashekel is from the age of 20 to 70(years of a lifetime).600,000 people times 50 years = 30,000,000. The half shekalim which were given years before had the power to knock off the same amount of the evil haman years later.
sam4321ParticipantRav Ovadia Yosef (Yechaveh Daas 3:63) based on Zohar and Arizal not to.
sam4321ParticipantIt is interesting to note, the Chofetz Chaim in Shem Olam which he writes about 4 inventions one being the Camera. He explains it was created to enhance our emunah.
sam4321ParticipantYitay:Berachas 24 in conjunction with a passuk in the Torah. There other sources in the Yerushalmi. The idea of ervah is something which is hidden which makes it an obligation to cover areas which are always covered. You know this already nit sure what ur q is.
WIY: The Igros Moshe I sourced before answers your q.
sam4321ParticipantYitay:???
sam4321ParticipantSee Igros Moshe chelek 4 EH 100:6.
February 21, 2013 3:37 am at 3:37 am in reply to: Special Day for TefillaTa'anis Esther or Purim? #1143524sam4321ParticipantThe Tur explains this idea of special teffilah on taanis Esther.
sam4321ParticipantRemember Taanis Esther does not commemorate a sad day.It commemorates a day of teffilah.
sam4321ParticipantThe Mishna Brurah writes that we fast on the 13 because that’s when the Jews went to war and before Jews go to war they fast just like Moshe Rabbeinu. He then explains that the fast is called Taanis Esther because Hashem sees and listens to people who are in distress.See the Aruch Hashulchan for another understanding. Also the Shulchan Aruch brings down some people fast 3 days split up like bhab. The Kaf Hachaim brings a diff reason why we fast see it inside very interesting reason.
sam4321ParticipantI hear, but do you agree he was only talking about Eretz Yisroel?
sam4321ParticipantSam2: I hear,so how do you explain Rav Moshe in Rabeinu Tam.
sam4321ParticipantSam2: I understand that, but wasn’t Rabeinu Tam talking about Eretz Yisroel. The time of Tzeits is different in different regions. So in reality tzeits can be earlier than the classic 72 shiur. Also the Gra holds the shuir is much shorter than the classic shuir.
sam4321ParticipantAbc12345: The Mishna Brurah 233:14 says one should daven byechidis rather than daven after sunset. However, he says bdieved one could rely on those who argue on those hold only up to shkia. It comes out one could be meikel up until 20 min after shkia(he writes up until ??? ??? ??? ???.Rav Avigdor Nebontzal says if one does not hold ?”? for motzai shabbas then one can’t be somech on this because of ??? ??? ????? ?????.
AaronChaim: Rav Moshe already said that ?”? is preferred, isn’t that the litvishe?
sam4321ParticipantRav Ovadia Yosef said a great pshat.Moshe says ???? ?? ?????.He says one could read it ???? ?? ???? ?.which means erase me from sefer kaf which equals 20 and the 20th parsha is tzaveh so Moshes plea was granted.
sam4321ParticipantDY: I am assuming you are talking about Geder Olam where the Chofetz Chaim brings that Zohar and other sources,or you meant the Mishna Brurah.
sam4321ParticipantDaas Zekainim says they donated all the jewelry and that’s why Rosh Chodesh is their yom tov(Shulchan Aruch). Also Rav Moshe said that when the women came with their husbands they wore their jewelry to show that they are giving what they like not old jewelry stored away. That was the greatness of the women of klal yisroel.
sam4321ParticipantBenignuman: How about the Aruch Hashulchan OC 75:7?
sam4321ParticipantSam2: I believe Rav Belskey holds women should cover their hair by a swimming pool.
sam4321ParticipantOld man: False? See Igros Moshe YD 2:88 ,Darchei Tshuvah, and Chasam Sofer himself.I agree it is not halacha but a chumrah(minhag) it is.
sam4321ParticipantThe gum becomes softer when hot and hard when cold it, works like rubber since it is made of synthetic rubber.
sam4321ParticipantSee the Darchei Tshuva Hilchos Nidda 198:91 on this topic. Also the Chofetz Chaim(geder olam) discusses the severity of showing hair ,however I don’t remember seeing him quote this minhag.
February 6, 2013 5:31 am at 5:31 am in reply to: Calling people with questionable smicha Rabbi #995576sam4321Participantchafetzchaim613: I don’t understand why it bothers you so much. You can call anyone Rabbi or not ,its up to you. One can tell if someone is a true talmid chacham or not.If someone receives Yoreh yoreh or yadin yadin then it means they know that topic well does it mean they can pasken, maybe,if they have shimush or not.Without a doubt there are plenty of people who don’t have smicha who far surpass people with smicha, but that doesn’t make someone with yoreh yoreh an am haaretz. In two years one could learn a lot of Yoreh Deah and know it well.Should that person be called Rabbi that’s up to each individual to decide.
sam4321Participantregarding your first question, see Berachos 55a,Sefer Chassidim 920,and Kaf Hachaim 167:41 which say that a table is like a mizbeach and one should careful not to kill a louse on it this includes a table which one learns on as well.
Second question, the Be’er Moshe talks about it ,this q has been answered more than once on this site,do a search.
February 5, 2013 3:02 am at 3:02 am in reply to: Dressing up as a Nun, Munk,or Santa Claus for Purim #927323sam4321ParticipantSee the Igros Moshe YD:1:81 who brings the Rama who brings the Ran to asser goyish clothing for two reasons (see tshuvah). Whatever the case may be even if it is done in jest(maybe a heter, hard to hear)it doesn’t seem like the appropriate thing to do on purim
February 3, 2013 10:49 pm at 10:49 pm in reply to: Calling people with questionable smicha Rabbi #995538sam4321ParticipantIt so happens to be that some of these 23 year olds know yoreh deah very well and some older people who dont.Everyone is diff and if one learns the halachos inside theywill know it well.to pasken one needs shimush anyways so that rwally counts where he did it.
sam4321ParticipantI think the Aruch Hashulchan is a good source as well as tge Chasam Sofer. How would yoube mekayim pidyon haben?
sam4321ParticipantDaniel Rosen: I do not understand what you are saying.See The Rambam who says we go by Chazaka ,and a Kohen with a chazaka is a kohen .See the Aruch Hashulchan who says that a chazaka makes a kohen certainly. The site brings Rav Emden but the Chasam Sofer argues on that I believe. The Sdei chemed says that a kohen today is a kohen. See the Rama in Yoreh Deah who also says chazaka.
The final point is that Rav Moshe you are sourcing is in a case of of people who cant be trusted and the chazka is lost, but in no way does it mean a regular kasher kohanic family is not m,yuchus.
sam4321ParticipantShraga18: That oral tradition is written in Rav Nebontzols commentary on the Mishna Brurah (it is a blue and silver sefer).
sam4321ParticipantI learnt the Igros Moshe a while ago.It is Igros Moshe EH 1:114,he says that todays bathrooms are a safek bais hakissai and one cannot wash in a bathroom for a meal, one could wash his hands in the bathroom for davening as long as they are dried outside. It is certainly more preferable to wash outside.
Also see Rivevos Ephraim(talmid of Rav Moshe ) 6:3:1.
sam4321ParticipantOk found two sources which say to have a stripe or some blue for a zecher see the Leket Yosher talmidim of the terumas Hadeshen :
the second source is the Eshel Avraham who quotes the Elya Rabbah see 6:
sam4321ParticipantSuperme: anything is possible check the Igros Moshe about washing ones hands.
sam4321ParticipantMiritchka: it is interesting to note that people who wash their hands three times after the bathroom sometimes wash their hands in the bathroom. This is a problem if you hold that the bathroom contains ruach raa then you have to wash three times outside of the bathroom because if not then it defeats the whole purpose of getting rid of the ruach raa.To daven, the hands have to be washed outside of the bathroom or at least dried outside the bathroom.
sam4321Participantwhat you are saying is what the Kaf Hachaim holds and others. The one who says the stripes are a zecher I believe it is the Terumas Hadeshen(have to find it).
sam4321Participantoomis:that is the shiita of the Rashba who says that a person is a briya chadasha and one should wash like a kohen does. The Rosh holds because one could have touched an uncovered part of his body while sleeping, and then there is the issue of Ruach Raa(which a bracha was not instituted for). A good nafka mina would be if one would wear mittens to sleep does one make a bracha, this has been discussed already.
Superme:It depends if we hold that our bathrooms have ruach raa or not. Rav Moshe discusses this.
sam4321ParticipantYou should read Faith and Folly by Rabbi Yaakov Hillel who is a esteemed kabbalist and he explains that there are many charlatans out there.Someone who learns Torah for years and years are the ones who know the secrets of the Torah.
