obviously the Torah doesn’t mention taxes; there are certainly references to tzedakah, chesed (even to the wealthy), terumah, maaser, maaser ani, smittah, yovel. The Rambam says it’s a mitzvah to feed & clothe non-Jews as well.

Trying to fit western democracy into Torah is complete folly to begin with, whether it’s republicans or democrats or independents.

Torah is not a liberal or conservative “document” lehavdil, it’s a Divine one.

    P. Yid: it almost sounds like you’re saying, after the Holocaust we can’t get inspiration from Chumash either, after all it’s all in the tochacha. The Ribbono shel Olam is the same Ribbono shel Olam & the Torah is the same Torah.

Find your path, but use Torah as its source, we always look back for inspiration- chadesh yamainu k’kedem

It is essential to point out my friends, the Torah is neither a liberal nor conservative “document”, it is a Divine “document”-no one should lay claim to it exclusively. Legal & moralistic positions can be derived from Torah, political opinions can’t. To attempt to fit the American political system to Torah is impossible, there are too many variables. Eg.-we can’t support total abolition of abortion, since halachically there are situations when it is necessary r’l (save life of mother for instance).

Rabbi Shmuel Bloom recently authored an article in the Yated, in which he poignantly points out that the Jewish community has been & is served well by both parties in varied issues & situations.

Rav Mordechai Katz of Telz was once asked by someone, “how is it possible that frum (some) businessmen are ganavim?” He said, “Let me ask you a question, how is it some frum people eat on Yom Kippur and are mechalel Shabbos?” the fellow said, “they’re NOT frum!” Rav Katz said, “exactly, neither are the ganavim”

One could say that you can find all kinds of chesronos in all types of occupations, the bottom line is-what kind of Jew are you?

the S’fas Emes holds that Moshiach’s arrival is dependent on mitzvos accumulated by Klal Yisroel, like a bank account, once the total is reached he can come-so, it can be any day. Also, why each individual’s mitzvos are so valuable & important!

I would question whether an anonymous plea for mechila accomplishes what you wish, unless, perhaps, the avlah done was done anonymously?

if we are truly serious about our desire for mechila, we should seek out the aggrieved party personally & in that zchus may the Ribbono shel Olam midah keneged midah seek each one of us out personally & give us mechila!

in deference to many of you; halacha does not ever change, the only question is how to or how does the halacha apply; chalav stam- takes a posek to make a psak, not your personal decision as to how to fiersach. a chosson not saying krias shema the night of the chasunah is because of kavana, today we don’t have that depth of kavana so the halacha doesn’t APPLY, it’s not a change in halacha, that’s the halacha!

“shul is not mine or yours, but Hashem’s” we have an obligation to emulate the Ribbono shel Olam, v’halachta bidrachav. He gives sholom to us-sholom sholom l’rachok ulkarov! in fact the rachok, maybe a guest or stranger? (as well as baal teshuva) gets sholom first!

as I have heard Rav Shlomo Brevda say, the reason for a lack of feeling for the need of Moshiach is because we can’t even conceive of what we’re missing; we don’t know what a tremendous taanug it is being misdavek b’ziv haShechina at all much less 24/7. But think a moment-a world without sickness, hunger, war, lacking nothing, an olam malei daya es H-shem- sounds like something we should all desire & daven for. bimhaira byamainu

philosopher- chas v’sholom that we should downgrade the importance (the absolute necessity) of kiyum haTorah! I’m just saying we have to look at it from their viewpoint to try to understand where they’re coming from.

chanoch l’naar al pi darko-we all experienced a process of chinuch; OTD’s when they are ready, must begin over in a sense.

Tzadik sheva yipol v’kam- Rav Hutner zt’l says that this does not mean simply to keep trying, rather to be a tzadik, you MUST fall in order to grow.

these are very complex issues; I think it useful to state that the Chazon Ish zt’l says that “rasha” as termed by Chazal no longer exists in our experience. what we see today by most Yidden is tinuk shenishba.

though I have not discussed this with any Adam Gadol (yet), I would propose that someone who is pushed away from Yiddishkeit, through legitimate circumstances (not just looking for an excuse, classic bechirah) is also bichlal tinuk shenishba in the sense that that person has been forcibly removed from authentic Yiddishkeit.

No less than Moshe Rabbeinu himself is criticized for saying “shimu na hamorim” by the be’er & “rav lachem bnei Levi” by Korach–even though he was 100% correct in his assertions.

Be very careful how you judge, describe, feel or whatever lashon you want to use, the neshoma of another Jew.

Take to heart the words of Hillel-“al tadin es chavercha ad shtagiah limkomo.”

I believe a mahalech would be like the Griz HaLevi says at the beginning of Parahsas Braishis-l’asid lavo the goyim are going to come & demand schar, The Ribbono shel Olam will want to know why, they will say we built roads, bridges, infrastucture etc. all for Klal Yisroel; He will say no, you did for your own self interest.

how can they lie to the Ribbono shel Olam? says the Brisker Rav, everything in this world is bishvil Yisroel, shenikra raishis, the oomos come to this realization & try to use it to their own advantage-we did it for them! but in truth that was not their kavana.

they didn’t accept Torah from the Ribbono shel Olam Himself when He gave them the choice, so they are phony, so He gave them a navi that was as phony as they were

let’s exchange “romance” for “love”, Love is indeed a cornerstone of yiddishkeit, even though romance is not; please note most of sheva brochos refer to love; the union of chosson & kallah is a dimyon to the love we should have for the Ribbono shel Olam.

interestingly, Korach v’chal adaso thought it was proper to be maktir ketores (the aida meant it l’shaim shamayim according to the Shlah haKadosh) and that it was ok to be cholek on the gadol haDoros Moshe Rabbeinu–seems like they were mistaken…
