TrueBT- The assimiliation you speak of can be said the same of in Israel. Most people with money will buy expensive cars and houses. What Goyishe culture are you referring to exactly because im pretty sure Boro Park and the like do not seem to be so influenced by Goyishe culture.

Alwaysask, as usual im not sure what you are replying to because not only do I not have Meta, I dont have any social media. And no YWN is not social media its a forum and those have been around many years and are not as problematic as social media.

If there isnt any good from it and only negativity, then why do frum Yidden still hold on to it? It is destroying peoples minds, marriages, relationships and much more and only evokes jealousy, anger, bitterness, which leads many to depression and anxiety whether they are aware of these feelings consciously or sub-consciously.

Even if there is any little good on there like being able to share a shiur, there is so much bad that in my opinion it outweighs any little good that it may offer. Besides there are so many other ways to share videos and messages that this is just an excuse to use the platform since everyone else is using it. It is so destructive that even the non Jewish world are aware of it but nobody is stopping it and it is only gaining more power and evolving into the way of life.

Kuvult, your view of the isolated attacks is the exact problem. When “isolated” attacks happen one after the other consistently, then yes it is time to give it some attention. And in the recent years there have been too many isolated attacks and accusations of the Jews spreading Covid, Jews not vaccinated, Jews created Covid and control everything. You are certainly aware that things dont happen overnight right? The Holocaust lehavdil did not happen overnight it was a process of at least 6 years since Hitler y”s rose to power and slowly there were more and more attacks on Jews by civilians themselves with the government doing nothing to stop it.

“When the govt turns, then start to worry.”
-Well I think we got a small glimpse of that when DeBlasio and Cuomo labeled all Jewish ares in NYC as “Red Zones” in terms of Covid and restricted only those Jewish neighborhoods and got more brazen about explicitly stating their dangerous and hateful rhetoric despite other non Jewish areas with higher infection rates. That just proves to you that it can happen anywhere.

Im not saying C”VS that something will happen, but unfortunately as you prove from your reply it is just too easy to ignore anti semitism outbreaks and label hem as isolated attacks.
How many Asians were assaulted and how many advertising has NYC put up to “stop Asian Hate”? On the other hand how many shuls and Yeshivas were set on fire, vandalized, in addition to Jews being attacked in the street…how many ads on public transportation have we seen to stop this? Not even one.

There’s Apartheid in the Holy Land, but Not in Israel
Palestinian law makes selling land to Jews a crime punishable by death, often without trial.
    By Eugene Kontorovich
    Feb. 8, 2022 6:36 pm ET

The report by Amnesty International accusing Israel of apartheid—a likely preview of similar moves at the United Nations and the International Criminal Court—has been widely debunked, including in these pages. Yet what is remarkable about its 200 pages of distortions is the evidence of real apartheid-like policies that Amnesty leaves out. There are reasons to be concerned about the emergence of apartheid in the Holy Land—but not the ones Amnesty cites.

The defining characteristic of apartheid—what distinguishes it from generic racial discrimination—is the rigid separation of groups in public spaces and positions of power. This is the apart in apartheid.

Thus, a sign of apartheid could be a government policy that bans real-estate sales or transactions to the disfavored group. Apartheid is suggested by policies that carve out massive zones where the disfavored group cannot live or work, create ethnically homogenous zones, and restrict the disfavored group to ghettos. One might consider it apartheid if a government enforced a policy of extrajudicial execution of members of a disfavored group.

All these policies are practiced in the West Bank and Gaza—by the Palestinian Authority government against Jews. What makes the “Israel apartheid” meme particularly despicable is that is not just a lie, it is an inversion of the truth. In all areas controlled by Israel, Jews and Arabs mix openly. Yet the Palestinian Authority has for decades ruled over Gaza and about half the West Bank—and all the areas under its jurisdiction are Jew-free.

There isn’t a single Jewish community living anywhere under Palestinian control. This isn’t because of Jewish preferences. Jewish communities exist across the world; they would certainly exist 10 minutes from Jerusalem if it weren’t for the Palestinian Authority’s policies of excluding Jews and inciting violence and prejudice against them.

Palestinian law makes selling land to Jews a crime punishable by death, often without trial. Nor does the authority recognize any Jewish titles to private property. Last year a Palestinian religious official said on Palestinian TV that “this land is a pure right of its Muslim owners, the people of Palestine.” A senior Palestinian Authority figure said in an official publication, “Whoever sells real estate to the enemy . . . is considered a traitor to the religion, the homeland, and the people, and all those who commit this must be punished.”

In Israel, by contrast, Arabs enjoy full property rights, enforced by the courts against Jews. Perversely, Amnesty cites as an example of Israeli apartheid a series of legal proceedings in which Jewish property owners in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah seek (thus far unsuccessfully) to evict squatters who happen to be Arab. In Amnesty’s alternate universe, Jews enforcing their property rights is apartheid; Jews being denied the right to own property isn’t. The South African government used death squads against blacks. The Palestinian government pays terrorists for killing Jews—the more people killed, the bigger the bounty. It regularly imprisons the few brave Palestinians who speak out against its policies.

In all the territories controlled by the Palestinian government, Jews are prevented from worshipping at their holy sites, despite explicit provisions in the Oslo Accords requiring the Palestinian Authority to protect such worship. When Jews manage to visit such shrines, they must come in the middle of the night under armed guard. And even in areas under Israeli control, like the Temple Mount—Jews’ holiest site—the Palestinian Authority prevents public Jewish prayer by threatening mass violence if Jews “defile” it with their “filthy feet,” in the words of President Mahmoud Abbas.

All this is part of a larger vision. The Palestinian Constitution defines Palestine as an exclusively “Arab nation,” with Islam the official religion and Arabic the sole official language. At the same time, Palestinian officials and educators deny any Jewish history or connection to Israel. In Israel, on the other hand, though it is the only Jewish-majority country in the world, Judaism isn’t the official religion. Both Hebrew and Arabic enjoy official status. Yet Amnesty claims that merely identifying as a “nation state” of a particular people is an apartheid practice—but only when it comes to Israel.

Apartheid is not merely a term of opprobrium, it is a crime created by and defined in international treaties. As a legal matter, while Ramallah’s treatment of Jews is discriminatory and violates human rights, it is impossible to say it formally qualifies as apartheid. The standard for apartheid has been set so high by the international community, that thus far only South Africa has been deemed a clear case. But by the standards implicit in Amnesty’s report, the Palestinian government is guilty.

Palestinians created their own flag and call Israel “Falestin”. Im not sure if even Israel would annex those territories if it would be considered Apartheid when this group of people do NOT recognize the land as Israel and do not want to be part of that land they want to be part of Palestine which in their opinion is the whole country. Last I checked Apartheid meant Citizens of a country who had less rights. The Palestinians in “Palestinian” territory are not Israeli citizens and also do not want to be since they dont recognize Israels existence. Quite a catch 22.

Im not agreeing on any theoretical ideas which is the exact issue. Israel is being attacked on theoretical or nonexistent situations. Im sure things will fall into place when we get there. How about we start with real Apartheid and conflicts such as the Muslim Uygers in China being mass murdered and sent into camps as we speak, Russia/Ukraine conflict, India/China land dispute, Pakistan/Kashmir, Yazidis, China/Taiwan, North Korea Citizens, and so on. There is an obvious bias here to try to take away the Jewish homeland from the Jews and thats all it is.

They are calling it Apartheid as the situation is currently. Annexing is theoretical and hasnt happened yet.
Also isnt the definition of Apartheid that certain citizens have less rights? The non Israeli “Palestinians” are NOT citizens so how does that fit into the definition of the word?

Hold on so let me get this straight. Many comments saying running away isnt the solution. Why do you call it running away? Thats like saying you are near an active volcano and have a few days to get elsewhere but you choose to stay in that area since you dont want to be “running away”.
Isnt there an idea of keeping yourself safe? Are you saying those who managed to escape the Holocaust made a mistake? Should they all have just stayed and accepted fate? Also in this case it is different since its possible we are in the last stage of the Golus so maybe its the final push who knows.

Arab Israeli have some “basic” rights? You surely have never been to Israel. How is being a member of Knesset, a doctor or nurse working in a hospital, taxi driver, or being able to freely walk around, live and shop wherever you want just “basic” rights?

Arabs can enter any Jewish area without harm, in fact they are the threat themselves. But if a Jew enters an Arab village even within recognized Israel it is a danger to their lives. Also read what I wrote “Arab villages inside Israel. They make their own villages and areas it doesn’t get less apartheid than that they have freedom to live where they want. Even the city Ramleh, not Ramalla so don’t be confused, is so populated by Arabs and it is an Israeli city. Haifa as well full of Arabs.

How can that be Apartheid? Do you expect Arabs living in Gaza to have Israeli citizenship? It doesn’t work both ways you can’t claim your own land and also expect to have citizenship in the land you don’t even recognize the existence of.

Karlbenmarx “the Zionists are fighting the Torah so who cares what others call them?”

Are you that ignorant? Assuming you are a Yid then you should definitely care what others call them since they are trying to break up the Jewish Homeland and are calling Jews the oppressed who have become the oppressors.

The fact that they come up with such bizarre claims and twist definitions of Apartheid and other terms shows that things finally are getting out of control. When the world ignores terrorists and claims they are doing this as resistance to what the Israelis do to them, there is nothing to even talk about since all lies are being stated as facts.

As bad as the Israeli government is it’s still our only land that nobody can factually state otherwise, although who knows what will remain of it with the weak government paired up with the immense pressure of the world for a Palestinian state.

Why does Israel have to grant them citizenship if they live in Gaza which is supposedly”Palestine”? The Arabs who live in Israel and are citizens have full rights and work in hospitals, some are doctors and even members of Knesset just as any Jewish Israeli. So how is that Apartheid?

“To show your ticket to the bus inspector on the way out of the bus is a small inconvenience compared to the time saved.”

Ya well you know what else jack? Is it also a small price to pay when you are running to catch your bus and make it but the driver won’t open the door and pulls away since you have to spend another 10 seconds getting a receipt from the machine?

Also the receipt is valid apparently for 2 hours so say you got the receipt already on you and running to the bus, the driver won’t open the door usually since they think you are hopping on without paying because they didn’t see you go to the machine. So there are other issues with this system than just the “time it saves everyone”.

Ujm I have seen groups of them standing at big intersection bus stops and also heard from a friend who was stopped after they got off the bus.
I wonder if by law you have to comply once you are off the bus because most feel they have to and they get interrogated. The question is also even if they check for proof on the bus how are they allowed to ticket you without giving you an option to get off at the next stop? Its possible that you lost your ticket or threw it out or whatever.

The select busses which you have to purchase a fare ticket from the machines at the bus stop before you board. You are obligated to keep the receipt as proof. Sometimes they check on the bus but many times they(MTA inspectors) wait at the bus stop and ask random people to show the receipt when they de-board the bus. Why does someone need to take from their time to show proof? Once they are off the bus they are off so they arent catching you riding the bus for free you arent on the bus anymore arent you just free to go about your day? Apparently they interrogate people and give fine and court summons to those who dont have the receipt. What if you lost the receipt or whatever other reason?

Doesnt it work on the LIRR in a way that if you dont have a receipt for fare you just get off at the next stop? How can they fine you on the spot just for not having the bus fare receipt? Especially to wait after you leave the bus is that even legal? Are you obligated to cooperate?

Tsbaum there is no way desantis is running VP with Trump. Trump is afraid of him that’s why he is betraying him and bullying him.

Also didn’t you hear what Trump had to say about Bibi and then kept it going by attacking all Israelis and Jews as a whole and saying the Israelis are the obstacle to peace and that Israel forced him to attack Iran and that Israel controls US Congress and that he regrets the things he’s done for Israel?

You don’t think it’s a bit concerning? I liked Trump as well but again this time around he has been pushed so much and his ego took such a hit that he is coming back dangerous. People do change you know, or sometimes just show their true colors. Many Trump supporters are unsure about him this time. Especially he is still talking about stolen election, whether true or not it isn’t calming anyone down. The election was definitely swayed by the media/social media including censoring and portraying fake news and polls and surely had a lot of fake mail in ballots that were tampered with. I’m still not sure that overturning that Trump would have won since the media did a great job 4 years of brainwashing people against him, and in that way the election was stolen, but regardless it’s a bit reckless to go on about stolen election it causes fanatics to do stupid things.

Jack, there’s a difference between presidents being attacked. Obama could have withdrew Afghanistan Biden style and still would have been praised. Even the good things that Trump had done were being shown in a negative light by the media, and twisting the whole narrative to show how bad it was. Also you can’t compare a single fox news to the whole media which is leftist and majority.

As far as Biden goes there is a lot to be critical of so it’s not comparable. I’m sure if by Trump cooling terms with North Korea which noone could have done but him, shutting the mouth of the Palestinians to the point that they practically gave up on having their own state and accepting Israel as the only country, being on good terms with Putin, and having the world leaders fear and respect the U.S., if the media hadn’t attacked him on that and actually recognized the strong moves, he wouldn’t have been so extreme this time around. But they just wouldn’t have it no matter what they hated Trump because he wasnt letting the leftist corruption have their way.

The problem is when the left pushes the right so much, the right becomes very extreme and dangerous.

I think that if the media and world hadn’t been pressing Trump from day 1 or rather even before he took office, he wouldn’t have had to go so extreme. He did say some “funny” things here and there but what president doesn’t? Didn’t Obama make a fool of himself and America when meeting with the Queen and raising his glass when everyone ignored him since he was out of line? Those things happen in a presidency, but to literally attack Trump on every word and every step is something that not everyone can fight through and he did he literally fought the entire world for 4 years. And it’s a shame the attacks kept coming since he was on the right track for many things and accomplished good things as well and could have been much better without the constant bees stinging from every direction at every moment.

Now that it didn’t turn out that way I feel Trump is so extreme and that’s what happens when the left pushes the right, the right becomes extreme in order to counter.

It seems that Trump just has to be back for the second term it is inevitable at this point. He has a lot of momentum and is highly relevant thanks to the leftist press. I don’t like and never did like the extreme white supremacists crowds he attracts but on the other hand do I like the BLM and Antifa crowds that the left attracts and actually encourages, definitely not.

There are a lot of great republican candidates such as Desantis, Haley and others or even Tulsi from the Democratic party who is more of a republican if anything. But if Trump does win I don’t mind his antics he is actually quite entertaining and charismatic but I’m just hoping he will be good with the Jews and Israel and America in general. If he would be similar to how he was in the first term minus the recklessness that was forced by the leftist media then that would be great.

Ubiquitin yes he also attracted crowds in 2016 and back then it aslo alarmed me to see how easily he can sway crowds. And it bothered me then as well since he spoke bluntly to the Jewish Republican coalition, retweeted anti semitic posts and other odd behaviors, but now he became even more open about it so it brought my attention back to it

Also haleivi you can just Google trump campaign ad SS soldiers, and also just search for trump antisemitic retweets or and check the YouTube video trump speaks to Jewish Republican coalition, I think some leftist newsites made lists of these things. Just Google and you will see these. Not to mention how the Trump ad against Hillary Clinton shows her face on a background of money with a big Jewish star next to her implying who she’s getting the money from. Of course when it attracted attention the Trump campaign claimed it was just a regular sheriff star but nevertheless changed it to a 5 corner star. Apparently they thought sheriff stars look like mogen David stars.

To all those asking questions, yes I supported trump and in a way still do (although not sure if he is who anyone needs again) and also when I supported him I wasnt a sheep and applauding for everything he did or said. I didn’t like the Jewish remarks or subtle hints, and I also didn’t like how he bullied everyone and still does. As a president I think he made many mistakes due to ego and lack of experience, although he also accomplished so much greatness that noone could have done(certainly not Obama) such as having strong world leaders fear him, meeting Kim jong in North Korea itself, and lowering the Palestinians down to zero where they didn’t even have confidence to open their mouth anymore. Unfortunately the momentum is over and I feel if he comes back he is there for personal unfinished business and you can already see that on his features. And no all you funnies, I didn’t say it’s from the vaccine. But if you so insist then maybe if that makes you happy.

Ubiquitin french fries on pizza isn’t new. Also by him supporting vaccines and encouraging them without mentioning he is against mandates, implies and gives the impression that he is for it. But of course he wants to show he is for it since he wants to claim that he saved the world since the vaccine was his work. Unfortunately for him Pfizer announced the vaccine what like 2 days after the election? How obvious it was a political move. So he tries playing both sides by showing he’s against mandates like vote for him to save everyone, on the other hand take the vaccine because he also is responsible for that and for saving everyone. It just doesn’t work that way unless you can say take the vaccine but also openly and clearly state you are against the mandates. Then people wouldn’t be confused.

@Teal, I also don’t think he hates Jews, although it’s debatable how much he true heartedly likes Jews. I’m not just pointing out how he called out the Jews in name only, but first of all he generalized and said Jews as a whole so that’s already a poor statement, and also he went along with the classic Israel drags the US to war and controls the senate by saying just that, that Israel pressed him to carry out attack on Iran general (when in fact he told Israel that the US wants to be the one to do that), and saying how he feels uncomfortable for this decision of taking out the Iranian general, and that Israel controlled the US Congress until Obama put an end to it, and that he only moved the embassy for netanyahu not because he felt it should be moved. Oh ya and that the real enemy are the Israelis who don’t want peace since the Palestinians want peace and praised Abbas.

He basically flipped everything he said before and whether it’s due to his ego or anger, the results are the same and it’s dangerous no matter what motivates him to feel that way.

The pennies may be around for decades but you won’t be able to use them that’s the whole point here.

Half cent equations aren’t as common as cents. It’s simple 100 cents make a dollar. It’s much easier to understand and also apply when there is an actual one cent coin.

And last time paid in cash? Many times when I don’t feel like waiting for the chip machine to work, or when I just want to pay for something and be done with it without later seeing a huge credit card bill, or if I owe someone money and I just take out some cash from the wallet. Cash is very convenient and both cash and credit have their advantages and disadvantages.

The reason most people pay with a card is due to a psychological reason that they don’t see the actual money leaving their hand so it feels like a lighter transaction and almost as if they paid nothing at all. That’s also a huge reason why people get into so much debt because they don’t track their purchases and just swipe away after all they have a whole month to pay for it. It’s much easier to hold on to physical cash in your wallet than to a card that contains digital denomination that is likely over your budget anyway and takes effort to check the balance.
Anothe reason is most people get paid directly into their bank account so taking out cash is inconvenient. People who get paid in cash use cash since they have it on hand more often.

I think its a mistake to take the penny away since now everything will just cost more since it will obviously be rounded up to the nearest nickel and not otherwise.
Yes pennies are annoying since some will insist on breaking your whole dollar just for that extra penny that you don’t have. But how will this solve the issue now If something will be 2.05 and you don’t have a nickel you will still have to break a whole dollar for it. With the penny it’s such a small denomination that most will just let it go at this point and let you keep your dollar whole.

So with the penny gone, how do you explain math of a 100 cents equate to a dollar, when you can’t break the dollar into 100 individual cents?

Dictionary is cheap and not an issue to buy. What’s the problem?

Ya well on the other hand secure until you get hacked, delete files accidentally, corrupted files that won’t open, or Any other option aside for the fact that everything you write digitally is being stored by hundreds of apps and companies and being sold around.

Good alternative but writing with a stylus is still digital, there is a different elemental feedback and feel to it. Also writing has been a traditional way of the world since the beginning. We dont approve digital typed Sefer Torah do we? There is just something to it and it would be a shame for this to be a lost art as the use for it declines.

You bring up a good point about Zelle payments, but I think one can argue for writing checks using the same points of paying with cash/writing a physical note, the fact that you dont need technology and you get the task done instantly, I guess the only technology you would need is a pen but thats solved if you carry one! If for whatever reason you have no data, or no battery on the phone or whatever, and dont have cash on you, you can still make a transaction with a check, pretty convenient. The only thing is I suspect banks will get rid of checks sometime in the future.

Also writing is therapeutic. You mentioned it was tiring for you but there is definitely something different about physical writing than typing on a digital screen.

Googling for words is faster than using a dictionary. But that’s a separate topic that’s not writing that’s for looking up information/reading.

I think this can be similar to the cash debate. There is nothing more instant than paying with cash and it is also more private. Same as jotting down a note on physical paper, instant and secure. No need for all the apps and services to know what you wrote down.
