Because there’s no cholam in chasa. It’s two kematzim. It’s a rashi in chumash. I think it’s a gemara too. The quote is in past tense. I think it’s from parshas metzora when the cohen tells the baal habayis to remove his belongings before he is declares the house tamei

Avirah, it’s called illusory superiority. It was very popular in Germany. The maaleh isn’t with you, it’s with CS. He’s able to observe objectively.

Syag, because knowing a lot of Torah or being iluyish doesn’t equate to being a talmid chacham. Anyone can be a rosh yeshiva too. That doesn’t automatically make you chashuv. Some people just want to be rebbish and caught up in the hock with their elite chevrah. That’s their simchas hachaim apparently..

Really, the best thing to do in the beis avel is to shut your mouth unless you pick up a que that the avel wants to hear from you.

Mods, what was wrong with my comment? I’m saying I don’t believe Avirah. I don’t trust him to reliably quote sources because he’s been misquoting them too many times. Also, he’s shown how krum he can be regarding any subject under the sun. Is there something wrong with any of that?

Yes, the way you said it was unacceptable.

This debate is not so relevant anymore. I personally have a subscription to YouTube music.

But I remember back when it was hot topic. I downloaded anything I wanted because it is totally mutar. Intellectual property is a modern phenomenon.

If you think reading goyish books is a problem, then you can’t read the articles from YWN that are posted from the AP. Why should articles be different than books?

Kiruv is for everyone. You don’t necessarily need to be looking for people to be mekarev. By living al kiddush Hashem every moment, you never know what you can accomplish.
My mother a”h was a teacher in public school. People used to ask her annoying questions about being Jewish (mostly goyim) all the time, and she would never lose her patience and always answered anything they asked.
Once, a frum lady introduced herself and asked if she remembered her. She did not. She said that she used to be her coworker, and that her answering her questions inspired her to become a baalas teshuva. Now she has a frum family because of some seemingly innocuous questions and answers.

The Frisco Kid starring Harrison Ford is probably one of the very few kosher movies. It might be just one big leitzunes show, but it’s hardly treif. Truth is that movies shouldn’t be a problem THEORETICALLY.

Practically, it’s nearly impossible to have one that’s mamash ok.
And to know if a movie is ok in the first place, someone would have to be the korban to test it for everyone else.
Asur or not, it’s not ratzon Hashem for certain. And if you’re learning full time, it’s a for sure a complete stirah.

(Actually, I just remembered a couple of not so parve moments in the Frisco Kid. So I guess there might not be any kosher movies afterall..)

I’m not sure if you’re serious or not. 16 is kind of young to start. If you’re trying to convince anyone to start, I would say start to find a good match. Then present the idea to him after you already know a little about the girl. This way, maybe you can get him excited and interested. If that doesn’t work out, you can use that as a way to really show your point of how difficult it can be to find a good shidduch and how long it takes.

If this doesn’t interest him in the slightest, then he obviously does not want to get married at all right now, so there’s no point in pushing.

President Biden, Putin, a priest, and a rabbi are on plane. The plane is going down, but there are only three parachutes. Putin immediately grabs one and jumps before anyone can blink twice. The rabbi states emphatically that the president deserves the next parachute. Biden accepts and jumps. The priest then says to the rabbi “you can have the last parachute, I’m prepared to meet my maker.” The rabbi replies, “well actually father, there’s no need. You see.. Biden just grabbed my tallis!”

Aside from the fact they are cheating giluy rosh, they just look ridiculous and gaudy. They do not look nice or ‘normal’ unless you’re trying to dress like the 19th century.

The only ones that look nice and fashionable are the really expensive ones. Like the ones that people use for professional modeling and cosmetic commercials. Those cost several thousand dollars and are meant to flaunt beauty and draw attention.

So either someone is wearing a wig for pritzus or else they look ridiculous and 100 years old.

Avi, you’ve never heard of human trafficking? There are so many variations of human trafficking, not just of females. There is slave labor on the market everywhere! From India and China to right here in the USA under your nose. Just look up the stats from the FBI. And that’s just illegal slavery. There are dozens of countries which approve of unofficial forks of slavery. They just use loopholes, extortion, or merely call it a different name. Here are some: China (they enslave people outright), India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, EGYPT, and TURKEY. These countries approve of enslaving people. I’m not talking about indentured servitude. And there are so many others which turn a blind eye.

My point is there are massive numbers of slaves today which dwarf the number of slaves throughout all of human history. So have societies truly progressed past slavery when it has increased exponentially?
