February 13, 2020 4:33 pm at 4:33 pm in reply to: What programming language is better to start learning? #1831542RebbeDebbieParticipant
Python is a good language for a beginner to learn.
SAS is a great language to learn for employment opportunities. You will need to pass the Base Certification (it is not hard and maybe take you about two months from zero to certification). You can learn on your own with a book from the public library, and install some software on your computer for free from the SAS website. Jobs with this certification are usually titled “SAS Programmer.” Check out indeed and linkedin for jobs: there are many of them located near frum friendly areas of the USA.
SQL is a good skill to pick up too. Practice some basic excel too: pivot tables, etc.
I DISAGREE with BurntSteak about R. My work has me use R and Python because I am a data scientist. All of the analysts on our team do not use it much. R is also very specialized and is not friendly to the user unless they need it for some heavy statistical analysis.

So no more sushi!

January 21, 2020 10:20 pm at 10:20 pm in reply to: Why does Biden get a pass Or ”the donkey in the room ” #1824987RebbeDebbieParticipantReb Eliezer, there’s no way Biden is innocent.
Your point about our “allies” wishes reminds me of something we teach our children. If all of our allies wanted someone to jump off of a bridge, should we encourage the potential jumper in the name of peaceful diplomatic relations, or encourage the individual to do the right thing?
RebbeDebbieParticipantKeep her away from eating chalov stam and wearing denim skirts!
On a serious note, if you try to lock it down with filters and other restrictions, she (or her friends) will find a way around them if they really want. It’s actually an easy task to accomplish.
Perhaps, have your wife have an honest conversation with her (in private) about the dangers of the Internet, nasty people that take advantage of innocence, etc. The more you restrict some things, the possibility of your child rebelling can increase.
I think it’s best to be open with children regarding some things to a certain extent, and let them know if they ever need to talk then your heart and ears are open to listen to them.
RebbeDebbieParticipantYou can always try to get hagbah more often. Maybe go to a shul populated with older people.
January 20, 2020 3:53 pm at 3:53 pm in reply to: Why hasn’t the frumvelt embraced democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang #1824508RebbeDebbieParticipantYakkov Doe, as others have pointed out, he is not against religious brit milah. He has stated that it is merely his opinion and he would not make it a policy issue.

RebbeDebbieParticipant“How would you advise him to respond? ”
Do the honorable thing and resign. He’s had four years to do teshuvah, yet his meshuganas keeps getting stronger.
He has not kept his promises, and continues to show his horrible middos.
Would you honestly tell your children that Trump is a role model, and someone to seek to be like?
It’s too bad Joe Lieberman is not running for President. That’s a mentsh that we all can agree would be a great model, great president, and someone that has great middos. Bonus: He’s a frum Yid too!
RebbeDebbieParticipantCT, Sanders runs as a democrat because no true American would cast a vote for a Communist Party candidate.
January 16, 2020 1:46 pm at 1:46 pm in reply to: Are there (intelligent) yidden on other plants? #1823403RebbeDebbieParticipant“We know that there is no shidduch crisis on the other planets so perhaps there is something we can learn from them.”
How do we “know” this exactly?
January 16, 2020 1:46 pm at 1:46 pm in reply to: The End of the Ashkenaz Community in Flatbush #1823452RebbeDebbieParticipantWhat’s wrong with more Sephardic communities? They love Hashem as you and I do; they just have different minhagim. Do we really need more sinat chinam against klal yisroel?
RebbeDebbieParticipantIt’s impossible to refute the fact that R’ Kahane hyd had much love for his fellow yid.
RebbeDebbieParticipantUnless you’re a kohen, then why not have your child marry a convert?
RebbeDebbieParticipantIf having a beard becomes a determining criteria, then most of the hipsters in Brooklyn will gain the title of Rabbi.

January 15, 2020 1:18 pm at 1:18 pm in reply to: Why hasn’t the frumvelt embraced democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang #1822996RebbeDebbieParticipantAll those accusing Yang of being of a socialist are wrong. He is very much in support of the free market.
RebbeDebbieParticipantWhen are you moving to a republican state? Texas is a great state for frum Jews.
RebbeDebbieParticipantiacisrmma: The same can be said for Abraham Herschel before he became a Conservative Rabbi and taught at the JTS. So back to my original question, if someone that teaches heretical views also teaches alef-beis (that’s two letters not one) should they be addressed as Rabbi by any frum yid? Would you daven in their non orthodox shul?
RebbeDebbieParticipantReb Eliezer, how does that work when one learns from a heretic (say Reform, Conservative, or Open “Orthodox”)? If one has learned one letter from one a the above then this causes problems.
For example, if one refers to Avi Weiss (the creator of Open “Orthodox”) as Rabbi Avi Weiss (including other YCT graduates), then are we not giving credibility to the Open “Orthodox” movement in the same manner as if one were to daven in a Reform place?

We all know that neither the giants nor jets are ever going to make it in the playoffs.
RebbeDebbieParticipantI agree with Joseph here. Extensive research needs to be done before the first date. How is it possible to have such research performed by all of the guests, and for all of the guests, before the wedding. The wedding is for the kallah and choson, not some speed dating mixer.
January 11, 2020 9:03 pm at 9:03 pm in reply to: Are there (intelligent) yidden on other plants? #1821802RebbeDebbieParticipantAnother interesting question deals with mikveh construction and usage. Until we can create artificial gravity on spacecrafts (nothing not possible for many many years), this will be a big problem for many yidden as the trip to Mars is very long and water is scarce in space and Mars.
January 3, 2020 1:57 pm at 1:57 pm in reply to: What’s the difference between the two Siyumim? #1818201RebbeDebbieParticipantDirshu actually tests whether people are learning the material, versus daf yomi made to make people feel better about learning from an Artscroll.

December 24, 2019 8:23 am at 8:23 am in reply to: Broke Bochurim Going to Friend’s Weddings #1813496RebbeDebbieParticipantWhy would they need to be compensated for their travel costs? If the wedding is far away and they cannot afford to attend, then they should not attend.
RebbeDebbieParticipantYou shouldn’t allow wax water to go down any drain! You’re looking at a very expensive plumbing problem in the future if you do.
RebbeDebbieParticipantIf it’s solid metal you can put it in the oven (on a cookie sheet covered with foil and paper towels). Be careful because it will be hot. The wax melts right off and the bits that remain wipe away really easy. No film is left behind and it will look new.
RebbeDebbieParticipantLinux is better as it allows a lot of customization. Moreover, if you learn Linux, then finding a niche job is easier.

December 21, 2019 6:52 pm at 6:52 pm in reply to: Saving shul seats, sidurrim for others not yet here #1812668RebbeDebbieParticipantHow is it that some posters are saying that they are saving seats for their wife? Are they davening in a shul without a mechitza?
December 21, 2019 6:50 pm at 6:50 pm in reply to: Is it assur to use an air fryer during channukah? #1812670RebbeDebbieParticipantGoldilocks what is the minimal amount of deep fried food one must eat? A kezayis? It is a regular sized kezayis, or the kezayis people use to not have to wash/bentch for pizza?
RebbeDebbieParticipantWhy should dirshu not have a siyum? No one person/organization owns torah study!
RebbeDebbieParticipantMy rav says that novels can be very problematic because many feature immodest themes.

December 17, 2019 11:28 am at 11:28 am in reply to: Inviting divorced women to your Shabbos table? #1811351RebbeDebbieParticipantSo the higher divorce rates are among the more modern elements? I wonder how that works with reforms and conservatives (assuming they are the very tiny percentage that didn’t intermarry). Are their marriages (man and women only, and both halachically Jewish) more doomed to divorce than hassidishe marriages?
RebbeDebbieParticipantWhy does the white house even have these public hannukah parties to begin with? Same goes with the pesach seders.
RebbeDebbieParticipantThree months is a really longtime to be dating. Why haven’t you proposed yet? It’s not fair to string her along for so long without proposing. Talk to your rav.
December 17, 2019 8:02 am at 8:02 am in reply to: Applesauce on latkes is better than sour cream: Prove me wrong. #1811355RebbeDebbieParticipantSince the traditional/proper way to make latkes involves shmaltz, you cannot serve them with sour cream and thus must use applesauce.
Eating latkes with sour cream is rejecting tradition in the same manner as someone switching from nusach Sefard to nusach Ashkenaz.

December 9, 2019 4:56 pm at 4:56 pm in reply to: Why are the liberals going to bus dangerous youths from OOT into Flatbush? #1809416RebbeDebbieParticipant@takahmamash I never said such a thing! Would you want “at risk youths” (liberal code for juvenile delinquents aka criminals) walking around your neighbourhood?
Consider the following, if the students are such great future citizens, then why are they not welcomed in their own communities and being forced to move into a safe neighbourhood?
December 9, 2019 1:15 pm at 1:15 pm in reply to: Why are the liberals going to bus dangerous youths from OOT into Flatbush? #1809273RebbeDebbieParticipant@Gadolhadorah Will the 2020 census actually track that though? If so, it will definitely be interesting to see how many of the young families are moving OOT, and where they’re moving to.
December 8, 2019 8:44 am at 8:44 am in reply to: Inviting divorced women to your Shabbos table? #1808647RebbeDebbieParticipantGive it up. When something is deleted repeatedly it is because it has been deemed inappropriate. If you keep posting it anyway, nothing else you write will make it through either.
Mod: I was going through and replying to individual posts in the thread. I was not trying to submit the same post repeatedly. My apologies if it seemed that way. Have a good day.
Nice try but not quite.RebbeDebbieParticipantRY they sell sushi yet they are not a sushi store
RebbeDebbieParticipant@Milhouse are you a Chabadnik, yes or no? Just for honesty sakes
RebbeDebbieParticipantapushatayid, it actually the reverse. The reason the buttons are on the left and not the right side is because non-Jewish royalty practices. The men dressed themselves, and the women had other women dress them. So the one doing the dressing would always have the buttons in their right hand and space for the button in their left hand. That’s why non-Jews, and secular Jews, find the button on hassidic men’s clothing puzzling.
RebbeDebbieParticipantWe should start a “Nachos for Nachas” campaign!
