Thanks for responding, 100! And thanks for letting me know I wasn’t in mod cheirem, at least, not publically.

Is the exact number a secret?

(By the way, in answer to a question if there is only one of something, “No” conveys just as much information as “At least two…”)

Say, 29, why didn’t you just edit your response into my post?

(Also, you are one of the subtitle guys – I’d forgotten about this:

    http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/do-the-moderators-enjoy-giving-subtitles#post-541659 )

So, if you enjoy giving subtitles, how about a new one for

Avram in MD? I mean, we can see that he’s Avram, that he’s in the CR, and that in the CR (just as in MD), he is Avram.

    —-

Avram in MD’s subtitle as of this post was “Avram in the CR,” but that might well change soon – see above.

Sorry, 29! I copied her structure without thinking about it. I didn’t mean to “post as if I were a moderator.” I’ve fixed it.

Hey, why didn’t you challenge her implicit assertion that PAA and I are capable of changing her subtitle?

Did you only challenge me because I often criticize how people express their thoughts?

(Also, does this mean you’re one of the subtitle guys?)

This post does not have “for mod read only” at the top.

Do you know what I mean?

P.S. I guess you weren’t on duty for this one:

Actually, I’ve been thinking about it, because I want your subtitle changed, but I’m not sure as of yet what to. (“Harping on” is usually used negatively, and given that you “play by ear so don’t really know the official lingo*,” I don’t need to look up the meanings of the terms you used (though as a music nut, I’d still like to someday) to doubt both that you had a specific meaning in mind, and that your current subtitle actually makes sense.

I have a number of ideas, which relate variously to your use of the CR rather than a harp to understand philosophy [the meaning of the posuk], your “opening” of philosophical discussions (with a harp, perhaps?)[the literal meaning of “eftach”], and attempting to retain some link to your current subtitle.

I’ll b’li neder try to finish up and get back to you.

(P.S. The only reason I haven’t addressed this yet is because I thought I’d do it in the thread where you requested the subtitle,

and I haven’t gotten around to really going through it and writing responses to whatever I want to. I don’t like to make

partial responses to a thread – if I do it, I usually say so at the top of the post. But this place moves so fast… The way I do things, I just can’t keep up, despite spending too much time on it alreaady.)

    Tip:

The 25 minutes to edit run out on not-yet-approved thread-starting posts (which cannot be edited).

You might want to start threads only when you see recent time-stamps at the top of the main page.

    Tip:

Click on the time-stamp that indicates the “Freshness” of a thread

(far right column on the list) to go directly to the last post in the thread (useful for multiple-page threads).

This can cause you to miss the last few (or more) posts on a page, though (because you’re landing on the new page),

    so watch out for that.

Please don’t respond – I’d like to save the last post on this page for a compilation of all the useful information in this thread.

(Note to self – be sure to correct that one Google part.)

But people who buy benchers aren't forcing others to do the same.

Correct, but they’re creating a situation in which others feel pressured to do the same. By your logic, no one can be asked not to conspicuously consume.

Then again, given your “argument” above, “But some people like to spend money,” I’m not sure I’m supposed to take you seriously here.

I’ve seen bentshers that are just stiff cards with one fold, with only bentshing on them – they probably cost less, and there’s a lot less to them when it comes to disposal.

I think Catch Yourself meant a place where you daven every time you daven (size: four amos by four amos?).

But presumably one can have different places in different locations – surely having a makom kavua does not mean never traveling?! (Unless it’s simply a matter of whether you daven in that place every time or not…) So you’ve got a point, but your argument is with CY, not me. (If you indeed meant that part for him, it should’ve been separated from the other part.)

As for the shidduchim, it’s been a month, which is not insignificant – except that I’d forgotten that the month in question was Tishrei, which is a rather busy time. Oops…

    You got me! Congratulations!

Still, asking about results after only a short time does not necessarily imply that the lack of such results invalidates the means (in this case, tefillah) being used.

(By the way, you once mentioned that no one would guess why you chose your name. Does that mean it wasn’t because of any common meaning or use of the word?)

(A mind’s being analytical doesn’t enable it to keep track of things.)

    coffee addict:

You’re right. I was wondering a little myself about the fact that the oldest (least recently active) thread on the CR is from only

6 years ago (not 5, though). I guess the title should’ve had “YW[N?]” instead of “CR.”

I see your point, but it would take an excessive amount of time

to find each user’s first CR post on their profile. It’s enough for me that they’ve had the account for a certain amount of time and still use it (even if the use wasn’t continuous, probably an even more time-consuming point to check).

    yekke2:

Was your point that there are multiple 7-year-old accounts belonging to Joseph? I cannot determine whether an old account belonged to Joseph (according to the mods) without spending an excessive amount of time on it.

And in the end, there is only one actual Joseph (we hope).

I always yawn when someone else yawns around me, which is the sign of NOT being a sociopath

I can’t be bothered to Google it, but whether true or not, this

presumably derives from such yawning supposedly being an effect of

the “sympathetic response[/w-e],” which a sociopath would lack.

It is not made clear where the Wikipedia quote ends and where the letter from Rabbi Moshe Shamah begins, but the line appears to be just before “No rabbi considers,” as it is difficult to imagine a Wikipedia article with “a matter I made clear to Mr. Chafets when we spoke” as part of its descriptive text.

(Assuming Popa hasn’t been involved, of course:)

    http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/troling-wikipedia

I once dated a convert whose mother was not Jewish and father was an OTD Syrian. His father’s family rejected him, so much so that when he was born, his grandfather said to his father, “What a shame that we can only love half this child.” (When he grew up and became a frum Jew, their attitude didn’t change.)

So: The child wasn’t Jewish. The grandfather was on speaking terms with the OTD father, but, along with his family, rejected the grandchild from birth, though not so much that he couldn’t “love half of him,” presumably the half from his father, not recognizing the relationship between his son and his non-Jewish wife (I’m just assuming they were married). Then the child grew up and converted to Judaism, but the father’s family’s feelings about him remained the same.

Really ? How much of that can I be expected to believe?

Yaakov Avraham ben Michleh and Dov Nechemiah HaKohein ben Rochel Chaya Sorah are alive, albeit not well (or at least in the latter’s case, news of his death [chas v’shalom] is not on Google, but it sounded like his treatment was expected to take more than a year – hence my two assumptions).

NOTE: I later realized that those with a certain degree of intelligence might actually have the right question after following the link, and my hint would then send them off track. I apologize if this happened to you, readers.

    PAA:

You did not provide a definition for “triplical.”

    “Ingraining” / “ingraination” :

Except that the tense wouldn’t work.

I think “ingraining” works as a makor in English.

    Let’s see:

    1. The ingraination of X into one’s nature

    2. The ingraining of X into one’s nature

The only difference appears to me to be that only one form is officially valid.

Note this in the “sarcasticon” section: “[added later, PAA!]” after a link to the thread I would later claim to have been unaware of. (You did not mention this.)

    “Conversified”

What would have been the problem with “the converse is not necessarily so?”

It gives the sentence a whole different feel.

How does “feel” come into a logical discussion? (While we’re talking about this, I think the likelihood of the kollel community seeing working people as an economic burden on them [even following the shita, which presumably exists and might be correct for all I know, that actually, the kollel community is the cause of the wealth of the workers, just as a person’s children act as conduits of blessing rather than taking money away from him – the Aron is “no’sei es nos’ov] is a lot smaller than “not necessarily” would imply.)

    The Writersoul issue:

    I think I did miss meaning 1),

and I do agree that it could have been 3), which may or

may not make sense – Let’s just forget about this part.

(Me: Contrary to what somebody seems to believe, I am not a walking index of the CR.)

(That was a reference. Did you get it? Probably… )

Or maybe I just didn’t see that thread.

You clearly did see it, as you quoted it

    Let’s take another look.

Or maybe I just didn’t see that thread. […] But given how short that line is, and the hint…

    [empty line]

That’s right, I didn’t read much of that thread

How could I say definitively that I hadn’t read much of the

thread if I didn’t know what it was? But how could I know

what it was if I hadn’t read it?

The answer lies here: “Given how short that line is, and the hint… [empty line]”

That line, and the following ellipsis and break, meant this:

Given how small the line is, and the hint, there’s not much it could be referencing. That thread should then be easy to find – and it was. The ellipsis and line are meant to be me

going off to find the thread, and returning to announce that indeed, I had not previously seen it.

I then attempted to prove it with a quote which involves a bad misunderstanding of a word, something I am sure you are aware I am opposed to.

(Later, having followed the link to “PAA vs. PBA” to see if there was anything new there, I came across a link to the second page of that thread, where I found new information about one

of the “sarcasticons” higher up in my [still-unposted] post. I added this information, noting that it had been added later, so as not to cause the illusion that I had already read that thread when I wrote that part of the post.)

You can also note that I did not ask for the location of the discussion you had referenced – because I knew it.

You have not addressed this either:

Let’s try your ability to get references:

Why don’t we just assume you’re a young teacher? Occam’s Razor!

    CORRECTION:

P.S. A post of mine from late Friday afternoon was rejected – I don’t know why. Maybe it was actually a computer error, and not the work of a mod.

That post wasn’t in this thread – it was in the thread with the URL “chofetz-chaim-yeshivos-1” and the name “Totally Random Title…” I think I should be able to address that thread in full now, though. Have I mentioned I’ve been up for about 29 hours now?

No worries, Eftach! I have no information about that song

other than HaLeiVi’s post, and while it’s obviously meant to be humorous, I don’t have any idea what other than the subject matter might make it funny.

Did you see the editing instructions?

Just for you, I’m going to try to figure the song out by intervals on a “The Wiggles™” toy guitar. But can you perhaps tell me what it’s first note is likely to be (there are 8 notes) so that I can play the correct notes?

[Not everything, etc… but you know that already, don’t you?]

“That one’s difficult to interpret as an insult in context*

    Read the title.

Good point. I think I’ve learned that lesson now, though:

    http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/discussion-between-randomex-and-lamud-vov#post-541495

(It was false when he posted it.)

, especially the way kids talk these days…”

And anyway, Eftach is presumably not a kid as you can see:

    http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/rebbes-affectionate-with-children/page/2#post-540123

That was a valid argument when it was posted (2 days ago) – assuming Eftach, being a teacher, to be of a certain age. Then this happened:

    OMGOMGOMG

    KKKKKKK

Whatever Eftach’s age may be, I think we can agree that her speech is indeed “the way kids talk these days.”

As far as your list is concerned:

Despite my comment about not having meant the meaning of the word,

you kept the two instances of “facetious” from the forest animal thread on the list.

Again despite my comment, and Cozimjewish’s, you do not reveal that it was your own statement being quoted by Cozimjewish, and you leave out the emoticon which indicates the true meaning of her statement. (You might be able to justify this with

the thread title… I still don’t like it. And in fact, that thread title is not your own – it was created to warn people.)

I’ll ask now so that I’ll have one less thing to address later – did you like the way I solved the problem with the quote you hadn’t used?

You left my knighting you off – I assume you could not find a way to interpret it as an insult. (I have one, but only on your side, not mine.)

Does that mean that you are not going to respond [to the forest animal thread]?

No, just that I wasn’t actually doing it at the time. B’li neder, one of these days…

Not everything I have to say, but I can’t let PAA get this first!

    http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/creative-writing-cr-users-in-real-life#post-540659

Oh, no, that wasn’t caution – that was competition. (Although you might actually beat me in that aspect in general.)

P.S. A post of mine from late Friday afternoon was rejected – I don’t know why. Maybe it was actually a computer error, and not the work of a mod.

The song can be found here – http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/shark-in-mikvah – but I’ll reprint it.

Ai yai, yai yai, yai yai, yai yai

There’s a, shark in the, Mikva

Ai yai, yai yai, yai yai, yai yai

There’s a, shark in the, Mikva

Ai yai yai it doesn’t bite

Ai yai yai it doesn’t fight

Ai yai yai it doesn’t bite

It just gives me a fright

HaLeiVi noted that he was sorry for leaving out the beams.

(I was about to ask you to explain what that meant, then realized

    I could Google it.)

    PAA:

Point taken. So, will you reveal the truth now as well,

At the bottom of each of your posts, there is, from left to right: a (relative) time-stamp (e.g., POSTED 5 MINUTES AGO),

a “#” symbol, which holds a link to that specific post (that’s where PAA and I get them), and,

for the first 25 minutes after you’ve put up the post (whether it has been approved or not), an EDIT button. Clicking that will re-open the post for writing. Be aware, though:

    1. If it was an already-approved post, editing it will send it back into moderation, and in the case of rejection, it is not only the edit that will disappear, but the entire post.

    2. Editing a post will not cause it to be time-stamped later – it will always keep the original time-stamp.

    3. If the 25 minutes run out while you are editing, when you click the publish button (“Edit Post”), you will get the error message “Sorry[;/:] post is too old.” (I’ve forgotten which symbol it is.)

    P.S. This is a symbol for “tongue-in-cheek:” :-7

    PAA:

One’s enough! That’s as illogical as your claim at the time* that what you said could’ve meant you were “playing a record,” which I refuted**.

(That one’s going to look pretty strange out of context…)
