squeak and many others:I am at loss to understand your logic. Have you actually LOOKED AT TRUMPS” business history??? His companies-casinos- have gone bankrupt FOUR TIMES, stiffing thousands of people and losing hundreds of millions of dollars for his investors. He has NOT built ANYTHING in over twenty years. All those fancy buildings and golf courses with his name were built by other companies-chinese by the way- and he SELLS his name.THAT’s IT!! He is nowhere as rich as he claims to be. About the only thing he did was to run a TV program and show how narcissistic he is. He is P.T.Barnum on steroids-fooling all of the people most o the time.He is a shameless self-promoter- with no real accomplishments in the last quarter century, apart from his childish TV program If- G-d forbid- he ever comes near the White House- He will sell out all of your admiring fans for a nickel. He will sell out israel and he will run the government by fiat,as all good demagogues have done forever.
February 2, 2016 8:46 pm at 8:46 pm in reply to: Presidential Election 2016 news and opinions #1134701rabbiofberlinParticipantNeville ChaimBerlin: you are wrong. The last few polls, including the ones they call “the golden one”, showed Trump winning comfortably and Rubio getting-at most- 16%. BOTH of these predictions were false. Trump lost pretty decisively and Rubio over performed in a great way. All the Trump supporters and the radio pundits are spinning this as a victory for Trump, etc….Ha! Spin, spin, spin!
See Rubio coming out of New hampshire as the new front runner!
February 2, 2016 4:53 pm at 4:53 pm in reply to: a response to the hateful comments on the satmar rebbe #1134685rabbiofberlinParticipantDaasYochid: one brother to another. One Satmarer rebbe against the other Satmarer rebbe. Not exactly halachic.
rabbiofberlinParticipantJust saw this thread- and,of course, Joseph’s fantasmagoric comments. Very easy to state statistics but you know what they say: ‘statistics, statistics and lies”. This about sums up his comments. Last time I checked my history books, jews were killed for the last two thousand years in every corner of the globe, culminating, of course, in the Holocaust. Just because right now, there are not many Jews killed in Europe or even the US guarantees nothing. Rav Teichtal zz’l had it right: European Jewry turned its back o Eretz Yisroel and tragedy followed. Let us not repeat that awful mistake again.
rabbiofberlinParticipantJoseph: I did not hear or read the comments you quote but it is pretty clear that there are hundreds, maybe thousands, of agunot today. In Eretz Yisroel, the “botei din” have tried to deal with this-all the way putting people in jail- but out of israel, few rabbonim have dealt with this in a constructive manner.
rabbiofberlinParticipantJoseph: the case of a “get me-usah” is complicated so I will not enter into this halachic thicket. However, someone is misleading the world- I don’t want to accuse a Rov of that- when you say that there were only “two cases of genuine agunos”. This is preposterous. “Puk mo amo diber”. There are multiple such cases and they run into the hundreds, maybe thousands.
rabbiofberlinParticipantThe Queen: Yo write vey contradicting messages. On the one hand, you praise the medinah and on the other hand you dismiss the army. You don’t seriously believe that without the army,we would be safe in Eretz Yisroel?
rabbiofberlinParticipantThe Queen: you must be very young- eighteen maybe? I distinctly remember being afraid to walk in Crown Heights, Upper West Side, even Boro Park not so long ago! Try lakewood today where there are anti semitic outbreaks even now!
rabbiofberlinParticipantWOW! Squeak and others: Are you listening to what you are writing? the geulah does NOT mean returning to a “physical geographical location”? This is pure kefirah. We daven every day , every shabbos and every yom tov to return to our ancestral home and this is NOT the geulah we crave for?? WOW! If anything is pure kefirah, it is this notion that we do not crave for a physical return to Eretz Yisroel.
rabbiofberlinParticipantDaasYochid: what does that even mean? Why don’t you check the -uncensured- Rambam.
rabbiofberlinParticipantDaasYochid: No one knows how the ultimate geulah will arrive. Check the Rambam in his “Jad Hachazokoh” and even more in Pirush Hamisnyos, perek chelek , and you will be gobsmacked what he thinks. Of course, the same goes for the Amoro Shmuel.
I am not saying I know that “Moshiach’ has already come to us. However, I am pretty convinced that we do live in “jemos hamoshiach” and that the medinah is a manifestation of this. Don’t take that from me. I heard this personally from the Ponevezer Rov zz’l
rabbiofberlinParticipantJoseph:check the Rambam on X-ianity and islam.
rabbiofberlinParticipantDaasYochid: do you know whether it is not?
rabbiofberlinParticipantJoseph : hmmmmm…let’s see…churban second bais hamikdosh, hundred of thousands killed….two thousand years ago…crusades, hundreds of jewish communities annihilated…one thousand years ago…..spanish expulsion, hundreds of thousands of jews expelled…five hundred years ago….chmielnicky, tens of thousands of jews killed….four hundred years ago…..russian pogroms, thousands of Jews killed…two hundred years ago….the Holocaust, six million jews murdered…seventy years ago…..
we’ll take the last 67 years in Israel…especially as we can defend ourselves…
rabbiofberlinParticipantHealth: Zionism has nothing to do with what you are writing. It is the urgency of returning to our homeland and rebuilt it.
rabbiofberlinParticipantThe Queen: May i first retract my assertion of putting you in any club. Apologies for the initial comment.
As far as your other comments. Do you realize that French jews -700,000 of them!- are afraid to wear a yarmulka in the street? Are you aware that jews in Norway and sweden are afraid to walk the streets because of the many Arab migrants? You may live in the US but the US is not the world.
And your sisters in Israel probably have a worse chance to be killed in an car accident than being stabbed by an Arab. I don’t minimize the gravity of the present mini-intifada but let’s put it into perspective. And, of course, the assailants have been killed, something that will not happen in the rest of the world.
rabbiofberlinParticipantZionism is the epitome of bitochon in HKBH and anti-Zionism is the tool of the Soton.
rabbiofberlinParticipantHealth, HaKoton and Joseph: the unholy trinity. I am not going to bother to answer their fantasmagoric and untrue assertions.
To “TheQueen”, a new member of the unholy club: What you write is irrelevant. The jews of Hungary were safe for most of WWII.As a matter of fact, many jews from other threatened countries fled to Hungary. And you should know what happened in June of 1944 and afterwards. So, just because it is peaceful now is no guarantee of anything. Only in Israel can the Jews defend themselves-as they are now!-and this is why living in Israel gaurantees jewish survival while living elsewhere can change on a proverbial dime.See France. See Iran (after the Shah). See Sweden.
rabbiofberlinParticipantTo all ; SIGH……As expected, this thread is again falling into the same pattern….joseph, health and their ilk see only the bad in eretz yisroel, the rest is trying to change their minds,to no avail. So,I will not try either. However, I will point out the mendacity of joseph and health trying to tell us that jews are safer outside of israel or under arab-even turkish-rule. The first part-safety outside of israel- is obviously wrong if you look at history. Only seventy five years ago, six million Jews were murdered “outside of israel” Before that, for many centuries, jews were killed, banished, expelled from a multitude of countries -try Russia, France, Spain,etc-“outside of israel”. just because right now, there is a lull in killing Jews “outside of israel’ does not mean it will continue forever. This is why the Zionists wanted out of Russia and build their own country, so they can defend themselves As far as the assertion that Jews would live better ndr turkish or arab rule-this is such bizarre notion that it needs no rebuttal,it is just plain insane.
rabbiofberlinParticipantMDG : thank for the elucidation. I may disagree but I think you.
health : “The ottoman empire”. Let’s see: Is that the empire that has not existed for a hundred years? or maybe it is the empire that captured Byzanrium in 1493? Your comments get more bizarre from dat to day….
rabbiofberlinParticipanthealth: this discussion will go on tit for tat and I don’t believe it serves any purpose. However, your last comment-about Israel and Iran- is so fantasmagoric that it left me speechless. So, you would prefer to live under Iranian rule……mm.does that even sound rational?
rabbiofberlinParticipantMDG: You speak in riddles. It is not a Jewish state? hmmm……did you know that there are many laws that are very specifically based on halacha? Did you know that the govt. of that “other appelation” gives hundreds of millions -yes, millions- of shekels every year to tens of thousands of anti- zionist jews? It is a Jewish state, whether you like to call it that way or not. The medinah does not need your “hechsher’ stamp. And, for good measure, Zionism is not dead at all.It survives in Maale Adumim, Kiryat Arba, Kiryat sefer, etc.etc…..and more of these yishuvim will b built, based on the original idea of Zionism, which is to settle Eretz Yisroel.
rabbiofberlinParticipantmammele:Sorry but this whole article is bogus, from the kaliver rebbe having 75,000 chassidim and keeping in touch with every one of them-to the fact that french jews are encouraged not to be religious. This is bogus- they may not want to go into “ehrliche” schools, because these are extreme schools and most french jews will enroll their kids in dati leumi school. So,this whole article is wrong from beginning to end.
health: defense lawyers are paid to get their clients off. Even if they are guilty as heck.
Your last comment, about being better off under Turkey, again shows your incredulous imaginary world and your total lack of any reality check.
rabbiofberlinParticipanthealth: all defense lawyers obfuscate the evidence,This is their job! religious or not.
As far as your other comments-the “terrorist” acts actually happened. Their perpetrators are not known, it has nothing to do with the medina’ s wish for terrorists. And no, the medinah is not perfect but it is a lot better than Arab ruled israel-chas vecholilo.
rabbiofberlinParticipantMammele: There is something called propaganda. It is absolutely a fake report. You think that French Jews are all chareidim in France??? And there are no photos because it is a bogus report! And, by the way, assimilation cannot happen in israel-they are all jews!
rabbiofberlinParticipanthealth:and defense lawyers are pure as the driven snow….and have no ulterior motive…..In truth I have no idea what happened but I sure would not accuse anyone without any concrete proof…
rabbiofberlinParticipanthealth: any real basis for that accusation?
rabbiofberlinParticipantDaasYochid: Sure….and, psst, I have a great bridge to sell you…cheap..don’t tell anyone, it is a special deal, just fro you!
rabbiofberlinParticipantHere we go again……Zionism is evil,Zionism is the greatest sin, Zionism is the creation of the “soton”….blah,blah,blah…..Mamesh- don’t get your mind corrupted by others..think for yourself…
December 31, 2015 11:18 pm at 11:18 pm in reply to: What did people do before Rashi invented Rashi tefillin? #1120111rabbiofberlinParticipantubiquitin: Thanks for your input although it does little to resolve the puzzle. On virtually every question in halacha, we know what the two sides maintain and we decide as per one side. Once this is decided, one does not go back and question an established fact. IN the questyion of tefillin, what was the decision, say,in the Tano’ims time? Amoro’im? Unless we accept that this question goes back to-at least- the “golus bovel”, it is a puzzle how one did not just look into the tefillin of one’s parent and do the same. According to what you write, this machlokes goes back to very early days and this is truly a puzzle.
December 31, 2015 8:23 pm at 8:23 pm in reply to: What did people do before Rashi invented Rashi tefillin? #1120105rabbiofberlinParticipantDaasYochid: The question is:how can you have a machlokes altogether? Open your father’s tefillin and look! It is not relevant how Rabbeinu Tam may have learned the sugya.. Rabbeinu tam inherited tefillin from his parents and grandparents- how could he reject those? Does this mean that. according to rabbeinu Tam,everyone before him did not put on the right tefillin??? If this would happen today with any other matter of halacha, they would be ostracized and drummed out.I cannot imagine anyone questioning a set halacha and getting away with it.
December 31, 2015 7:57 pm at 7:57 pm in reply to: What did people do before Rashi invented Rashi tefillin? #1120103rabbiofberlinParticipantI am not totally familiar with the various archeological finds but, to me, the central question about Rashi and Rabbeinu Tam’s tefillin is in the actual “mesorah”. After all, if my father and grandfather wore certain tefillin , which I wear today, and they inherited them from their parents and grandparents, how is it possible to have questionable tefillin? We have now close to a thousand years of two sets of tefillin and never has there been a third way and this is simply because we all wear tefillin of our parents and so forth. So, what happened to Rashi and his parents and grandparents? And, begging the question, how does Rabbeinu Tam reject his grandfather’s tefillin-that I never understood.

December 27, 2015 4:33 pm at 4:33 pm in reply to: MODERN ORTHODOXY: The Fundamental problems #1119084rabbiofberlinParticipantJoseph: you are wrong in the numbers-as the religious zionist slate continues to grow- but look at Avi K’s answer: The Likud, in effect is religious zionist “light”. To the names that Avi K quotes, add maarzel, Gideon Saar- who is shomer shabbat, Edelstein-speaker of the knesset and many other who are very traditional and take their cue from the religious zionist rabbis. You can throw in the present Ambassador to the US who is also religious. The future of Israel is clearly religious zionist. And, by the way, you are also wrong as far as Chabad. Chabad is in every corner of the universe and,on a daily basis, interacts with over a million jews.
December 27, 2015 2:17 am at 2:17 am in reply to: MODERN ORTHODOXY: The Fundamental problems #1119081rabbiofberlinParticipantjoseph: You will always find a truth that you like. But, “lemai nafka minah”? Does it matter-here in the US- which group is the largest ? Apart from being able to squeeze money from the goverment, who cares whether the chareidim are the biggesnt group? It makes zilch difference. American policy will not change based on the number of chareidim. It may even be detrimental. In Israel, however, where ther size of a group truly matters-in elections- there hasn not been an appreciable increase of chariedim as a percentage of the population. As far as the Russian olim-you keep on insulting them. very un-Jewish. I prefer to follow Chabad in their ways of kiruv. And, by the way,Chabad is actually the biggest chassidus!
December 25, 2015 8:45 pm at 8:45 pm in reply to: MODERN ORTHODOXY: The Fundamental problems #1119076rabbiofberlinParticipantJoseph: You took those figures from a very suspect Pew Survey. 81% of orthodox kids are chareidi?? If you beliive that, then all the Day Schools in the US are chareidi-certainly not the case. In any case, I don’t beleive in polls anyway-see politics-. I only trust actual numbers. Here in the US this cannot be counted accurately but in israel, where there are elections- one can. Hence my comment about the knesset figures. Incidentally , there were not ‘millions of Russians’olim, as you write, and your attack on Russian jews, who were in the dark and in a place of shmad for three generations worthy of any jew. You probably would have thrown away your black hat and shtreimel at the first decree from the Communists. Respect the jews who fought hard to remain jewish.
December 25, 2015 8:08 pm at 8:08 pm in reply to: MODERN ORTHODOXY: The Fundamental problems #1119074rabbiofberlinParticipantJoseph- your point is besides the point. You wrote that the chareidim are becoming a majority of jewry “very quickly”,both in the US and in israel. well, that certainly is not true in israel. Whether it is the Russian alyah or other factors, chareidim in israel are not becoming the majority any time soon and probably never.
December 25, 2015 4:35 pm at 4:35 pm in reply to: MODERN ORTHODOXY: The Fundamental problems #1119066rabbiofberlinParticipantJoseph: As usual, you are wrong in your assertions. The birthrate of so-called “chareidim” in israel is NOT higher than the birthrate of religious zionists. It is obvious that you never met a dati leumi family with eight kids “beli ayin horah”. And, the proof is that the Knesset representation of chareidim has stagnated now for over sixty years, barely changing their percentage of the Israeli population. Welcome to true Judaism, Joseph, the religious zionist one!!
rabbiofberlinParticipantcherrybim: and let us not forget that the darling of the right. Trump. refused JUST DAYS AGO to declare that jerusalem should not be divided, and let us not forget that Trump, JUST DAYS AGO, said that he expected Israel to continue making “sacrifices” for the peace process. Trump is NOT a conservative and surely is not one who will support Israel. IF – G-d forbid- he ever becomes President, he will act like the bully that he is and try to force israel to do things that will jeopardize its security. Trump is a danger to Israel and a calamity for the Republican Party.
rabbiofberlinParticipantNeville Chaimberlin: Trump is a fascist and a demagogue. If this is the kind of man that the GOP voters want to be President, count me as a Democrat. He is no different than Hitler ,Mussolini and all the other hateful xenophobes. Look up news clips from Hitler or watch some movies abut him. Hitler and the germans too spoke about “being betrayed”, “making the country great again”, attacking all foreigners and more. Demagogues like Trump appeal to the darkest, basest feelings of people and he has unleashed hatred into the mainstream. He has introduced poison into our political and civil discourse. And, if you think that those people cheering Trump on only hate the Hispanics and the Arabs, think again. They are also white supremacists and virulent anti-semites. Trump is destroying the GOP and is a real danger to this country.
rabbiofberlinParticipantHealth: You have to show why believing that Israel is the beginning of the geulah is kefirah.
rabbiofberlinParticipantDaasYochid: Shulchan aruch, orach chaim, siman 106, and -as you said- mishne berurah se’if koton 4. You are right to point out the different views, based on the Rambam and the Ramban. However, I must tell you that this minhag for women to “daven’ regular tefillos every day is new. In Europe-certainly, to my knowledge- women did not “daven” on a regular daily basis. On shabbos, when they went to shul, yes but not on the weekdays.
rabbiofberlinParticipanttheprof1 -and meno- although it is true that “praying” is required even for women, the “seder hatefillah’ that we use is not. A woman can acquit herself of this obligation by just asking or “rachmei shomayim”. Hence, actual “davening” is pretty much like hallel.
December 13, 2015 5:47 pm at 5:47 pm in reply to: ????? ???? ??? ??? ?????? (message from true Torah Jews) #1116044rabbiofberlinParticipantTo all:
Thanks for everyone who is speaking up for me! Truly, I have always been polite to the ones who hold different views on the matter of the medinah. For whatever reason, though, the rabid, ugly comments only come from the ones who want to denigrate the medinah and its supporters. I don’t get that. I have never ever heard anyone insulting the Satmarer rebbe and his flock.Whatever his ideology, the opponents have been respectful. Not so, the other side and that, I don’t understand. I do take exception to the ones who hold up Palestinian flags and consort with the iranians. They may be classified as “rodfim”.
rabbiofberlinParticipantHealth: Trump has every right to propagate his fascist views but a fascist he still is-see mw13 posting just above- and he is the most dangerous man in the US right now. If elected -chas vesholom- he will become a one man dictator within months.
As far as your other points, you are living in a fantasy world all of your own and of neturei karta. If you cannot see that your proposal to dismantle the medinah and give it over to Arabs condemn millions of jews to slavery and death, then you truly need psychological help.
By hating Israel , you are , of course, denying one of the ikrei emunah, namely the arrival of Melech Hamoshiach.
rabbiofberlinParticipantFor all Trump supporters: If you did not notice, Trump just cancelled his trip to israel. mmm..I wonder why? So, that fat liar says it is because he does not want to put pressure on Bibi. The truth is that he got annoyed when Bibi criticized his comments. A man so thin-skinned, a man who insults anyone who dares to open his mouth against him,a man who takes umbrage when anyone opposes him in the slightest, such a man is the most dangerous person to hold such high office. Ads of mushroom clouds will appear on TV the moment he becomes the Republican nominee. And like Goldwater, he will drag the republicans into oblivion. And note that he is NOT very pro-Israel.

rabbiofberlinParticipantHealth: Now i know why you are supporting Trump! Both of you make asinine, dangerous statements. Both of you give strength to the enemies of the Jews ,namely the Arabs. Both of you seem to hate the state of israel. Both of you make bigoted statements about your opponents….yup- now I know why you are supporting Trump!

For a long time, sermons -droshos- could only be given in shuls in yiddish. That started to change in the early nineteenth century when jews in germany and austria started giving the sermons in German. That was truly revolutionary. look up the teshuvos on that.

He had an only daughter who married R”boruchel Rabinovitch, who succeeded him. And, correctly, he changed his mind, becoming the Rov of Chulon and a candidate for israeli Chief rabbi. The grandson, however, is still anti -zionist,although in much lesser degree than his grandfather.
DaasYochid: I don’t think that this dispute about sholosh shevuos is about ideology. Rather, it is a dispute about interpretation. “elu ve’elu”
