squeak and many others:I am at loss to understand your logic. Have you actually LOOKED AT TRUMPS” business history??? His companies-casinos- have gone bankrupt FOUR TIMES, stiffing thousands of people and losing hundreds of millions of dollars for his investors. He has NOT built ANYTHING in over twenty years. All those fancy buildings and golf courses with his name were built by other companies-chinese by the way- and he SELLS his name.THAT’s IT!! He is nowhere as rich as he claims to be. About the only thing he did was to run a TV program and show how narcissistic he is. He is P.T.Barnum on steroids-fooling all of the people most o the time.He is a shameless self-promoter- with no real accomplishments in the last quarter century, apart from his childish TV program If- G-d forbid- he ever comes near the White House- He will sell out all of your admiring fans for a nickel. He will sell out israel and he will run the government by fiat,as all good demagogues have done forever.

Neville ChaimBerlin: you are wrong. The last few polls, including the ones they call “the golden one”, showed Trump winning comfortably and Rubio getting-at most- 16%. BOTH of these predictions were false. Trump lost pretty decisively and Rubio over performed in a great way. All the Trump supporters and the radio pundits are spinning this as a victory for Trump, etc….Ha! Spin, spin, spin!

See Rubio coming out of New hampshire as the new front runner!

Just saw this thread- and,of course, Joseph’s fantasmagoric comments. Very easy to state statistics but you know what they say: ‘statistics, statistics and lies”. This about sums up his comments. Last time I checked my history books, jews were killed for the last two thousand years in every corner of the globe, culminating, of course, in the Holocaust. Just because right now, there are not many Jews killed in Europe or even the US guarantees nothing. Rav Teichtal zz’l had it right: European Jewry turned its back o Eretz Yisroel and tragedy followed. Let us not repeat that awful mistake again.

Joseph: I did not hear or read the comments you quote but it is pretty clear that there are hundreds, maybe thousands, of agunot today. In Eretz Yisroel, the “botei din” have tried to deal with this-all the way putting people in jail- but out of israel, few rabbonim have dealt with this in a constructive manner.

Joseph: the case of a “get me-usah” is complicated so I will not enter into this halachic thicket. However, someone is misleading the world- I don’t want to accuse a Rov of that- when you say that there were only “two cases of genuine agunos”. This is preposterous. “Puk mo amo diber”. There are multiple such cases and they run into the hundreds, maybe thousands.

WOW! Squeak and others: Are you listening to what you are writing? the geulah does NOT mean returning to a “physical geographical location”? This is pure kefirah. We daven every day , every shabbos and every yom tov to return to our ancestral home and this is NOT the geulah we crave for?? WOW! If anything is pure kefirah, it is this notion that we do not crave for a physical return to Eretz Yisroel.

I am not saying I know that “Moshiach’ has already come to us. However, I am pretty convinced that we do live in “jemos hamoshiach” and that the medinah is a manifestation of this. Don’t take that from me. I heard this personally from the Ponevezer Rov zz’l

As far as your other comments. Do you realize that French jews -700,000 of them!- are afraid to wear a yarmulka in the street? Are you aware that jews in Norway and sweden are afraid to walk the streets because of the many Arab migrants? You may live in the US but the US is not the world.

And your sisters in Israel probably have a worse chance to be killed in an car accident than being stabbed by an Arab. I don’t minimize the gravity of the present mini-intifada but let’s put it into perspective. And, of course, the assailants have been killed, something that will not happen in the rest of the world.

Health, HaKoton and Joseph: the unholy trinity. I am not going to bother to answer their fantasmagoric and untrue assertions.

To “TheQueen”, a new member of the unholy club: What you write is irrelevant. The jews of Hungary were safe for most of WWII.As a matter of fact, many jews from other threatened countries fled to Hungary. And you should know what happened in June of 1944 and afterwards. So, just because it is peaceful now is no guarantee of anything. Only in Israel can the Jews defend themselves-as they are now!-and this is why living in Israel gaurantees jewish survival while living elsewhere can change on a proverbial dime.See France. See Iran (after the Shah). See Sweden.

To all ; SIGH……As expected, this thread is again falling into the same pattern….joseph, health and their ilk see only the bad in eretz yisroel, the rest is trying to change their minds,to no avail. So,I will not try either. However, I will point out the mendacity of joseph and health trying to tell us that jews are safer outside of israel or under arab-even turkish-rule. The first part-safety outside of israel- is obviously wrong if you look at history. Only seventy five years ago, six million Jews were murdered “outside of israel” Before that, for many centuries, jews were killed, banished, expelled from a multitude of countries -try Russia, France, Spain,etc-“outside of israel”. just because right now, there is a lull in killing Jews “outside of israel’ does not mean it will continue forever. This is why the Zionists wanted out of Russia and build their own country, so they can defend themselves As far as the assertion that Jews would live better ndr turkish or arab rule-this is such bizarre notion that it needs no rebuttal,it is just plain insane.

Did you know that the govt. of that “other appelation” gives hundreds of millions -yes, millions- of shekels every year to tens of thousands of anti- zionist jews? It is a Jewish state, whether you like to call it that way or not. The medinah does not need your “hechsher’ stamp. And, for good measure, Zionism is not dead at all.It survives in Maale Adumim, Kiryat Arba, Kiryat sefer, etc.etc…..and more of these yishuvim will b built, based on the original idea of Zionism, which is to settle Eretz Yisroel.

ubiquitin: Thanks for your input although it does little to resolve the puzzle. On virtually every question in halacha, we know what the two sides maintain and we decide as per one side. Once this is decided, one does not go back and question an established fact. IN the questyion of tefillin, what was the decision, say,in the Tano’ims time? Amoro’im? Unless we accept that this question goes back to-at least- the “golus bovel”, it is a puzzle how one did not just look into the tefillin of one’s parent and do the same. According to what you write, this machlokes goes back to very early days and this is truly a puzzle.

DaasYochid: The question is:how can you have a machlokes altogether? Open your father’s tefillin and look! It is not relevant how Rabbeinu Tam may have learned the sugya.. Rabbeinu tam inherited tefillin from his parents and grandparents- how could he reject those? Does this mean that. according to rabbeinu Tam,everyone before him did not put on the right tefillin??? If this would happen today with any other matter of halacha, they would be ostracized and drummed out.I cannot imagine anyone questioning a set halacha and getting away with it.

I am not totally familiar with the various archeological finds but, to me, the central question about Rashi and Rabbeinu Tam’s tefillin is in the actual “mesorah”. After all, if my father and grandfather wore certain tefillin , which I wear today, and they inherited them from their parents and grandparents, how is it possible to have questionable tefillin? We have now close to a thousand years of two sets of tefillin and never has there been a third way and this is simply because we all wear tefillin of our parents and so forth. So, what happened to Rashi and his parents and grandparents? And, begging the question, how does Rabbeinu Tam reject his grandfather’s tefillin-that I never understood.

To the names that Avi K quotes, add maarzel, Gideon Saar- who is shomer shabbat, Edelstein-speaker of the knesset and many other who are very traditional and take their cue from the religious zionist rabbis. You can throw in the present Ambassador to the US who is also religious. The future of Israel is clearly religious zionist. And, by the way, you are also wrong as far as Chabad. Apart from being able to squeeze money from the goverment, who cares whether the chareidim are the biggesnt group? It makes zilch difference. American policy will not change based on the number of chareidim. It may even be detrimental. In Israel, however, where ther size of a group truly matters-in elections- there hasn not been an appreciable increase of chariedim as a percentage of the population. As far as the Russian olim-you keep on insulting them. very un-Jewish. I prefer to follow Chabad in their ways of kiruv. And, by the way,Chabad is actually the biggest chassidus!

In any case, I don’t beleive in polls anyway-see politics-. I only trust actual numbers. Here in the US this cannot be counted accurately but in israel, where there are elections- one can. Hence my comment about the knesset figures. Incidentally , there were not ‘millions of Russians’olim, as you write, and your attack on Russian jews, who were in the dark and in a place of shmad for three generations worthy of any jew.
