One of them goes to a family in Egypt and is named Amal. The other goes to a family in Spain. They name him Juan.

Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his birth mother. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Amal.

He responds, “They’re twins! If you’ve seen Juan, you’ve seen Amal.”

There’s the Pico-Robertson area, but that’s MO, although you can try the LINK Kollel there for frum singles.

Are you saying MO folks are not frum?!

    How dare you!

If anything, they are better than you because they don’t constantly bash your hashkafa. If you don’t agree with their hashkafas, fine, but how dare you profess them to not be frum!

I have no idea where your assumption comes from, but it is absolutely terrible! The BHMK was destroyed because of spewing insulting, hateful garbage like you’re doing!

Yes, you may not agree with them, but to say they aren’t frum (i.e they don’t care about torah and mitzvos, and they have no yiras shamayim)is a discrace.

How would you like it if somebody kicked you out of Judaism because they didn’t like something you did!?

Minhag: To Do minimum hishtadlus and Maximum bitachon.

Chumrah: To be extremely machmir in the chiyuv of bitachon and extremely meikel in the chiyuv of hishtadlus.

PAA-To answer your question: Rav Soloveitchik was once approached with information about a certain ancient and rediscovered text of the Torah, that contradicted the Torah that we have. The Rav responded to his questioner “What is your opinion of the founder of the Reform movement”? The man responded “He is an idiot, an am haaretz d’oraysa!”. The Rav said back “Do you think we have a monopoly on ameratzim deoraysa”!?

My point:Insert moral of story here.

Another point: who says it is tzitzis at all?

    What good does that do?

I find it hilarious that showing pictures of members of half of the human race is considered a breach in tznius. These 10,000 women and for that matter, all 3.6 billion of them basically don’t exist. Makes perfect sense.

in reply to: Yom Yerushalayim #1017987

You may not like what popa said, it was certainly controversial, but he didn’t insult anyone personally.

False. He insulted me personally. My being is bound up with that up Yerushalayim’s. He insults Yerushalayim, he insults me.

So Ravina and Rav Ashi just had the words of the gemara they recorded

If they had more to say, why didn’t they?

Rav Chaim said about the nosei keilim on the Rambam that the Rambam never meant most of the chidushim that they say in the rambam’s name. No difference here. (Yes, I know that R’ Chaim also said that the nosei keilim still count as torah. If you could explain that line to me, I would be very happy.) Either way, just becasue the chidushim count as torah, does not mean that it is the best use of one’s time to study that type of torah.

How should bekius (at least your understanding) be taught ? You just sit and read! And use basic skills you already have. Iyun needs training.

So you are saying that we should design the curriculum of the yeshivas based on the fact that rebbeim will have no job? Not a primary concern.

If you learn (and even chazer) the daf for and hour or two day, would you be ready to be tested on Shas ?

No. That’s why I would do it WAY more than 2 hours a day.

in reply to: A Brand New Never Before Discussed Topic for Zeeskite #1017545

    Rebba Sauce flavor.

Back to Bekius vs Iyun, should the Defense rest its case or need more evidence be brought?

    Time will tell.

Knowing the shakla v’tarya of a Gemara is barely even skimming a sugya. It is superficial to the extreme – as far as knowing the sugya is concerned.

It worked for the baalie gemara, it works for me.

For many years I’ve been making a point, and was recently gratified to find it in published letter by R’ Shimshon Pinkus.

He says that it is rare for a bachur to succeed by trying to work out of the yeshiva system.

And he says there’s really no reason to! Put aside the system of learning, its reasons and justifications. Any serious bachur can find enough time in his day for any seder he’d like – bekius, nach, halacha – without taking away from the yeshiva schedule. How long does it take to learn (and even chazer) daf yomi?!

So no one can blame their lack of knowledge on the system.

Certain Yeshivos encourage this, and very few discourage it.

That’s ridiculous! The point of any educational system, including the yeshiva system, is to educate. Saying they can learn if they want, does not cut the mustard! That’s like saying why teach math for the regents, if the student cares he can learn it himself!

Also, daf yomi? That’s one daf a day. That is way below many yeshiva bachurim’s potential. To finish shas once while in yeshiva is not that impressive.

Young talmidim should try their utmost to use the years of their youth, the prime years to grow in Torah learning, to acquire vast amounts of knowledge

I don’t really understand this because the Gemara (chagiga 14a) says ??? ?? ??? ?????? ??? ??? ???? ?? ??? ?????? ??? ????. I know that he is not making it up because there is special emphasis given to limuda d’yankusa. (Also in the mishna in avod-niar machuk etc..)

The Rambam also says that gaavah is the one midah where you have to go ?? ??? ??????

It’s actually one of two midos. The other being anger.

Although now that you have raised this stirah, I am quite interested in an answer. I’ll go look at the nosei keilim.

I think it might be safe.

1)PBA-What Reuven did is muttar-in fact Shimon allowed him to! Therefore Reuven helped Shimon. If Shimon had wanted to, he could have blocked Reuven’s efforts at trolling. He didn’t, so he is maskim. No money should exchange hands.

2)Why do people use Reuven and Shimon?! It confuses me like crazy! Use A and B, or Tim and Yankel, but Reuven and Shimon rhyme the way people like to pronounce them! Stop with the confusion!

in reply to: Mechitza at Har Sinai? #1017851

RF-That is what Rav Avigdor Miller says about the tu b’av and the women dancing. The men only watched with the purest intents to see which woman would help them serve hashem the best.

I’m not sure I buy it.
