When you simply eat a chicken without considering the chicken’s needs, that is behaving like an animal. Animals are allowed to eat other animals.
This.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantmazel tov!

September 29, 2016 1:38 pm at 1:38 pm in reply to: Sending your kids to school is despicable #1184515popa_bar_abbaParticipantDeplorable.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI expect they would say no. But in any event, point is that they told us not to do one.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantAvi,
I understood the main objection to be hashkafic, as you note. I don’t recall them discussing the get meusah issue, which apparently is a major issue to several major poskim in Israel, nor the asmachta issue you note.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantIs it the mainstream Yeshiva view that no prenuptial agreements are permitted (i.e. even those simply selecting a Bais Din in advance for arbitration with no monetary penalty)?
Yes, that’s correct. My roshei yeshiva told us we should not use any prenup, and I’m fairly certain they would refuse to be mesader kiddushin if there was one.
When you say “permitted,” I assume you include psak based on hashkafa. I’m unaware that there is any halachic invalidity to a get based on a prenup where the couple agrees that in case of divorce they must use a certain beis din.
Regardless, though, the statement says explicitly that even those who disagree with the vote have alternatives that they would accept. This is a falsehood, as noted, and was grossly reckless since they obviously did not poll the members to find out-they just voted a majority vote.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantBenignuman,
It’s true that if a rabbi doesn’t agree, he is free to leave the organization. I’m criticizing that the RCA apparently doesn’t think the is room for anyone nor modern orthodox in their organization, so that anyone who holds mainstream yeshivis ideas is unwelcome.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantpopa_bar_abbaParticipantWhat we don’t value is secular knowledge for the sake of secular knowledge. The esoteric value.
Does Harvard say “we’re here to learn stuff to figure out how to do stuff”? No, they say “veritas.” And Yale says “lux et veritas” (and urim v’etumim).
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI’ve read that it is apikorsus (and worse) many times here on the CR.

September 16, 2016 9:31 pm at 9:31 pm in reply to: Take the TV out of the Restaurant or we will shut you down #1180972popa_bar_abbaParticipantCertainly people and communities are entitled to eat or mot eat at places based on the things they will be exposed to there.
It was very nice of the people who don’t plan to eat there to go in and explain why, so that the owners can change it if they want those people’s business. Otherwise the guy might lose tons of money.
September 16, 2016 4:57 pm at 4:57 pm in reply to: Tell us about your first date with your spouse #1183876popa_bar_abbaParticipantUCONN is a good Law School but not IVY League, growing up in New Haven I had no desire to go to Yale and the only other Law School in Connecticut was University of Bridgeport which was not a great school.
You could have stayed in New England though and gone to Harvard. Or do New Haven people hate Harvard too much even if they don’t like Yale?
popa_bar_abbaParticipantpopa_bar_abbaParticipantpopa_bar_abbaParticipantSounds like you all think the CR is basically a dating website.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantcan someone please summarize the last 9 pages
popa_bar_abbaParticipantben,
10 tefachim from what?
also, what’s that about a gag? Can I sleep in a full size tent that doesn’t have a gag?
popa_bar_abbaParticipantThird, word eventually gets back to the actual boss that you lied about your compensation in order to change the baseline, and you get fired.
Or, or,
the boss also wants the baseline salary to go up, because that gives him leverage to HIS boss to negotiate his own salary.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI tell all my colleagues I’m making way more than them.
First, it makes them all think I’m like their boss.
Second, some of them go and negotiate more money, and that changes the baseline for how the company thinks of compensation, and then I ask for more.

August 24, 2016 11:40 am at 11:40 am in reply to: Is there only one person whom you can successfully marry? #1174865popa_bar_abbaParticipantNo, I don’t believe in this, and think that belief in this concept leads to many broken marriages.

I would not allow their ads.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantSchool psychologist is a completely different concept. It isn’t a school counselor.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantAnd I’m a child.
Boy, you really have no imagination.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantAnd it was a new shul.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI was the gabbai
popa_bar_abbaParticipantComlink: how could it be a bizayon to give it to an odom chashuv, when gelillah is notel schar kulam and it is an honor to attend the torah? How you talk.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI also want a smartphone.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantYes, in shuls where it is ever given to children, it should never be given to anyone over bar mitzva. If there is no child to do it, the gabbai should do it himself.
If you are davening in such a shul, and are not a child, and are asked to do gelillah, it is appropriate to refuse, and such is the minhag of the rabbonim and talmidei chachomim that they never do gelillah in such shuls.
I did gelillah in shul at mincha yesterday. I was asked to do hagbah, and refused because I didn’t know if it was heavy, and I save my strength for battling people on the CR.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantAtlantic and pacific tea company. They make corpses for premed students to study.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantBirthday is better than age, because it doesn’t usually change.
The reason 19 year old BY girls don’t need to write a description is that they are all the same.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantOh, you’re posting of your own choice?
Then quit whining. This forum is what it is. If you don’t like it, go away.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantI feel bad for all the posters who are being forced to post here against their will. I hope they get married soon.
popa_bar_abbaParticipant“popa_bar_abba – why should they have too just because of theirs not tznius girls? the girls should start being tnius.”
Right on Sparky! Too many people have the attitude that they can do what they want and the guy shouldn’t look!! That’s not the Torah’s hashkafa! According to the Torah, it’s a terrible thing to be machshil others by being untznius.
Maybe, but meanwhile, since the women are doing what they’re doing, at least the men have to do what they can.
popa_bar_abbaParticipantWhat’s this kugel story I keep hearing about?
Someone had to go somewhere after licht bentshen. While she was there, another woman handed her a kugel and said “here, take this”. So she asked why? So the other woman explained that her mother in law was by her for shabbos. So she pretended she was going to bring someone who had a baby or something a kugel. And she can’t come back with the kugel! (As related on imamother).
popa_bar_abbaParticipantTwo of my younger siblings got married before me (brother and sister). I can’t imagine what a horrible person I’d have had to be to deny that to them.
